"Amy Klobuchar didn't prosecute officer at center of George Floyd's death after previous conduct complaints."

Yahoo News reports.
Ex-Minneapolis police officer Derick Chauvin saw at least 10 conduct complaints during his 19-year tenure before he was fired Tuesday, according to a database that documents complaints against police. In particular, he was involved in the shooting death of a man who had stabbed other people before attacking police, as well as some other undisclosed complaints. Klobuchar did not prosecute Chauvin and other officers involved for the first death, which occurred in October 2006 while she was running for Senate. The case was under investigation when Klobuchar took office in the Senate in Jan. 2007, and later went to a grand jury, which declined to charge the officers... ...Klobuchar "declined to bring charges in more than two dozen cases in which people were killed in encounters with police" as Hennepin County attorney. Instead, she "aggressively prosecuted smaller offenses" that "have been criticized for their disproportionate effect on poor and minority communities"....
Biden will need to gently close the door on Vice President Amy.

This is kind of interesting because Klobuchar is the darling of Minnesota's educated government and management class. These are the mainstream people most sympathetic to #BLM causes.

Sure. Pander. That’s one response.

Kamala has same problem.

Thomas Dewey was a prosecutor. And a Republican. And he lost. Twice.

Josephbleau म्हणाले...

If Harris is picked, who will they find she did not prosecute that will close the door on her? Prosecuting attys can no longer run for office.

Yancey Ward म्हणाले...

Yes, the Klobuchar balloon turned into the Hindenberg.

For those following, here is the updated spreadsheet for the US COVID-19 including today's data.

For Inga, there is bad news- new cases in Wisconsin fell, and so did the positive test rate, which you can see in Sheet 2 of the state level data. I even graphed Wisconsin's 7 Day moving average of daily positive rates for those who don't like numbers.

Dave Begley म्हणाले...

Amy might as well resign from the Senate tomorrow. Let's face, by liberal reasoning she was the sole proximate cause of George Floyd's death. That cop should have been fired or prosecuted years ago.

Amy must answer for her wrongs! Real or perceived.

Biden will need to gently close the door on Vice President Amy.

This door was closed abruptly the other day when Uncle Joe told the black man that if he had to think about who to vote for, he wasn't a black man. From that point on, it came down to Stacy Abrams, Kamala Harris, Susan Rice (because she's got a real track record), or Keisha Lance Bottoms (Mayor of Atlanta).

Personally I hope Keisha gets the nod because I cannot take her welcome speech over the airport messaging system at Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson Airport. "Hello. This is Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms and blah, blah, blah". I never hear what she says next because I'm always thinking, Did she just say Keisha Lancebottoms? Is that a name? Did she used to get harassed at school for it? Hey...Lancebottoms. We can see your lancebottoms. heheheh.

I dunno. Maybe it's just me.

Some Dems are yammering about Val Demmings (D-Fla), as the VP. She's black, but was a police officer I think which may hinder Dems now. Amy K is the one of the more sensible people in a non-sensible statist party.

When we are all burning Target stores we don't care. Afterwords we will be mad about food deserts because there are no Target stores to sell us fresh vegetables in our neighborhood.

Automatic_Wing म्हणाले...

Maybe it's just me, but shooting a guy who "had stabbed other people before attacking police" sounds pretty justifiable.

DeepRunner म्हणाले...

Yeah this has the feel of a setup by a rival campaigning for VP. No way Touchy-Feely, Creepy, Sleepy, Sloppy Joe can select the distinguished Karen from Minnesota.

Wince म्हणाले...

The Minneapolis police chief tonight inadvertently revealed specifically why he's responsible for perpetuating the attitude in his police force that caused Floyd's death when he said he would not send officers to respond to the riots because it was too dangerous for his officers and their safety was his top priority.

That's because most questionable police-involved deaths have less to do with racial animus than with risk-aversion or what might be called Blue Superiority.

Police have become so convinced of their public-sector hero status that they believe they are entitled to do whatever is necessary to protect themselves from risk at any cost.

The cop with his knee of the guy's neck believed he was entitled to avoid risk of injury or perhaps inconvenience to the point of choking the guy out with reckless disregard as to the risk of death or serious bodily harm he had to know.

I care about George Floyd's death as much as Black Lives Matters and the LSM care about the totally innocent elderly white beating victims of a racist black nursing home inmate, and the totally innocent elderly couple murdered at their son's grave by a racist black gunman -- not a bit.

JAORE म्हणाले...

Of course it doesn't matter in the least whether Amy K's decisions in the past were reasonable.
All that matters is how it will play to an audience of voters and DNC power brokers.

Birkel म्हणाले...

To be fair, it was never open.

Rt41Rebel म्हणाले...

Amy wasn't gonna work here anyway after Joe's last race gaffe because she's white. Non-story IMO.

Skip म्हणाले...

Biden-Bottoms? That's a keeper of a bumper sticker.

William म्हणाले...

It will be a black woman and not Kamala Harris. Biden looks kind of fragile. He's got a shot at winning the election, and there's a good chance his VP pick will end up in the White House. I'm not a 100% on board with President Stacy Abrams, but it could happen here.

Big Mike म्हणाले...

One year before the Twin Towers came down in New York, almost to the day, a young black man named Prince Jones who was a student at Howard University in downtown DC, was gunned down by a black police officer, The black police officer was in an unmarked car, wore his hair in dreadlocks, and was not in uniform. He spotted young Mr. Jones driving a large, black SUV and decided that he must be a drug dealer. The black police officer then aggressively pursued Mr. Jones all the way across the DC metropolitan area, eventually cornering Jones in a cul de sac three jurisdictions away from his own. Then the police officer drew his handgun and put 16 rounds into the SUV, killing Prince Jones a couple times over. The Fairfax County prosecutor declined to prosecute the police officer, even though the officer had never called for backup, never informed the Fairfax County police that he was pursuing a suspect into their jurisdiction, never even had any reasonable cause to begin following Prince Jones in the first place. That prosecutor told the Washington Post that “Fairfax County juries never convict police officers.”

The prosecutor lost his job in the next election, and deservedly so.

In today's world, negative campaigning reigns. That favors a candidate who has attempted nothing of significance. Elizabeth Warren, who did nothing but teach classes, would be ideal, if it weren't for her Native American fakery. Even so, when considering that Biden's VP might well have to step into the Presidency, Warren looks better than Kamala Harris to me.

Charlie Currie म्हणाले...

I guess Amy just isn't quite boring enough to be veep, after all.

AllenS म्हणाले...

Oh, don't worry about Minneapolis, even though the police building is on fire, and the riots are spreading, because --

The Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, left, and his son met with faith leaders to send a message of solidarity and demand justice in the death of George Floyd at Greater Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, Thursday, May 28, 2020 in Minneapolis, MN.

I see a lot of failure in dem prosecutors in higher level governance positions. What makes them suitable for their roles, besides ambition? Voters need better info on this.

Biden wont be the nominee.

Now Klobuchar will not be the nominee either.

Chris N म्हणाले...

I remember thinking specifically as Obama was elected President, that using the highest office as a gesture to bridge the history of the country, and many hard racial realities, was risky at best. There would be a lower probability of institution enhancing outcomes. Obama’s soft activist politics outside many historical norms and the incentives they create didn’t help.

Since then, I’ll point to many examples, (Michael Brown, Travon Martin, Eric Holder’s Civil Rights Activism while in the top legal job, populist revolts and this) which I think have divided as much as united many Americans, disrupting many civil norms, laws and basic institutional trusts without necessarily replacing them with something stronger. More broadly, there’s been a lot of change, very quickly, relative to the social trust our institutions and ideals require.

In fact one model I use (Plato’s Republic, boy, I hope that’s not so strongly predictive) has this as part of a deeper process of making freedom the highest good), so much so that our institutions don’t recover without a sad return to some from of potential tyranny and then after a tyrant, rule by the virtues of military leadership.

We become so sensitive to any threats to freedom, and extending freedom to all people and circumstances, that any authority becomes seen as oppressive, just as worse and worse men ascend to lead.

If such a model be true, we’d be very lucky indeed to produce another group like the founders and GW.

Here’s to hoping and working for other possible futures but not ignoring them either.

This will not help, will most likely embolden the protesters, rioters, and looters. When this was mentioned on the news mrs. stevew looked at me and said, "Jesse Jackson is still alive?".

This news about Amy probably explains the recent resurgence in talk of Liz Warren as a candidate for VP. Note also the decline in Stacey Abrams tire pumping.

The criteria for Biden’s VP have come clearly into focus:

It must be a woman.

Who’s ready to be President in day one.

And has done nothing of note at this point in her life.
