The Democrat Caucus is an unmitigated disaster. Nothing works, just like they ran the Country. Remember the 5 Billion Dollar Obamacare Website, that should have cost 2% of that. The only person that can claim a very big victory in Iowa last night is “Trump”.

Tonight we get to see him standing in front of his accusers. This is really popcorn time.
The adjective Democrat annoys them.
Looks like that poll they did not release on Saturday due to errors and incompetence was really a very accurate prediction of the caucus itself. So at least they have that.
True dat.
And if Biden is the big loser coming out of Iowa, then the impeachment hearings really only took out one candidate this fall.
He's not wrong. Actually, he's very rarely wrong.
Funny!
Time for Bernie to bend over and repeat the mantra - Please sir, may I have another?
Impeachment trial in the Senate, State of the Union in the House, and the Iowa caucuses in the News.
Who is in charge of the stage management here?
"Impeachment trial in the Senate, State of the Union in the House, and the Iowa caucuses in the News.

Obama. As you can see he's terrible at this.
Trump won both the Republican and Democratic Primaries....
in case anyone was wondering
I'm NOT tired of Winning, yet
FOUR MORE YEARS!
Dershowitz clarified and attacked the dem representation of his objections in the WSJ today. Not being very clear. He has to say Trump did nothing wrong, and it's possible for presidents to do something wrong.
His own argument is at fault. Everybody works with mixed motives, so if Trump was working in the national interest it doesn't matter if it benefits Trump. The dems show that's not good enough by saying if the president thinks it's in the national interest for him to be reelected then he can do anything.
What that shows is that Dershowitz's argument is wrong, not that Trump did anything wrong.
Dershowitz hasn't found the actual criterion, is all. Neither have the democrats.
It's the ordinary language problem. You know more about words than you can explain. So you can't make a rule with it.
Just say Trump was interested in finding out what the hell went on in 2016 with this incredible string of bombshell charges, which looks like it's worth investigating. The impeachment is just the latest version of it.
Asks Ukraine to help, since the corrupt president there was thrown out.
It's a little weak to say that people act from mixed motives. It's really about what's understood to be the president's job. This seems to fit in fine.
How long are the Bernie Bros going to put up with this?
President Trump continues to be fortunate in his enemies.
What will fix this problem is, obviously, more diversity and bathrooms for more genders.
Can we please switch the Wisconsin Primary to a Caucus? Looks fun. At least there'd be bloody marys with beer chasers and some brandy old fashioned. And the Trump caucus goers would be having a blast.
Once Trump is acquitted tomorrow, the Dems should put Adam Schiff in charge of the Iowa caucus........
Too funny. Mayor Pete tied into app author? I can't puzzle out the victim status hierarchy of who cheated whom here.
So who gets South Carolina now? My money is on Bernie.
I predict Trump begins his SOU with "Okay bitches, what next?"
I was not expecting to wake up this morning to such joyous news-- but this is indeed so very fun! Merry Caucusmas!
Gilbar,
I know you think you are kidding with your comment about driving the No Malarky bus into election central but it brought me a flashback.
In 1980 (Maybe 1984) the Election to see who would control the honeypot was very close on election night. The New Progressive Party (PNP) was leading by about 3,000 votes, out of 3 million or so cast.
Rafael Hernandez Colon, the Popular Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for governor and party head got on board a concrete mixer truck with a bunch of his supporters and drove to the coliseum were the vote counting was taking place. They drove up to the gate, where there was already a pretty good mob.
Hernandez-Colon got up on the truck, made an impassioned speech abut how the election was being stolen, promised to drive the truck through the gates and wreak havoc. Then they all started chanting "A LAS TRINCHERAS!!!" (To the trenches)
A mass of police barred the way and after an hour or two of great TV, the situation was diffused.
I've always wondered what would have happened if not for the police. Would he really have driven the truck in and destroyed or disrupted the process? Was it just for show and the police allowed him an excuse to back off? If the police had not been there, could he have survived the embarassment of backing off?
I forget who won and it really didn't matter. Not a dime's worth of difference between the two parties.
There were never any real accusations of electoral fraud. There never are, it is pretty much impossible with the way voting is carried out here.
NOTE: In Puerto Rico we only have elections every 4 years in which everybody, mayors, city council, state sens and reps and governor are elected. Most people vote a straight party ticket though this has been changing in recent elections.
John Henry
I predict that tonight President Trump makes some sort of joke about how these people can't even rig an election and they think they can run the country?
Maybe even "These people can't even rig an election or an impeachment and think they can run the country?"
John Henry
The Dems remind me that we watched "The Invention of Lying" last night - good fun!
Our government is so corrupt that the Feds had to appoint the former Ukrainian finance Minister to get them to tone it down a smidge.
But our elections are honest.
John Henry
It just occurs to me:
PDJT was not allowed to or at least did not present a defense in the impeachment kerfuffle.
Might he use tonight's SOTU to do so?
I'm not betting either way but what a perfect opportunity. Live TV, lots of viewers, the media can't not cover it. The vote tomorrow.
It would be the perfect chance to try to change some senate minds about voting to convict.
John Henry
Sundance theorizes that Biden was to the impeachment farce what Mueller was to the Russian Collusion Hoax - a doddering, expendable front man for the "Get Trump" Lawfare squad.
Maybe, the Lawfare squad can take a break from their nefarious plotting to help organize and unfuck the Iowa caucus.
Trump seems to get attacked relentlessly whenever he's looking into 2016 dem corruption. The thing they need most of all to hobble him on.
Looking into Ukraine? charges upon charges follow.
It's not appropriate for the president to look into 2016 dem corruption. That's a job properly done only by the deep state. Actual dem argument.

Oh what the heck, let's predict. All the cool kids are doing it!
Trump will act presidential. It's the State of the Union address, not the state of Trump address.
He'll probably mention impeachment, but he's not going to rub their noses in it. He's going to focus on what's going on in this country.
The last thing he'll do is treat it like a rally. But he'll have guests that emphasize his prison reforms, and maybe his anti-terrorism campaign.
The deluded left hopes for a poo-flinging monkey. He's not going to play into that.
Maddow-NBC-CNN-Schitt lies will have karmic blowback for some time.
Bombshell this.
Were they able to get everyone's pronouns correct?
I'm waiting for the DNC press conference where Tom Perez explains that Putin must have hacked into Iowa caucus voting App...

Merry Caucusmas back at you!! Love that!!
It's going to be Mini-Mike. Two Republican billionaires running against each other.
The Bernie Bros will stay home. SJW will stay home. Blacks will not be too enthusiastic and a few will switch to Trump.
White working class will vote bigly for the Orange.
White upperclass suburbs will vote overwhelming for Bloomberg.
Althouse will do a happy dance as she votes for Bloomberg
For once I have to agree with a Trump tweet.
Bleachbit --
I heard the app crashed on the users announced pronouns. It was the "energies" (not people) who identify as alien dragons. The app couldn't handle the alien hieroglyphics.
The SOTU preceding the Impeachment Vote means Trump is probably being advised to tread carefully: he cannot give the weak sisters an excuse to turn around and spite-fuck him.
Which means he might floor it.
We're living the last minute of 'Vanishing Point' on an endless loop and it is fucking fantastic. Glorious, even.
I am Laslo.
Donald Trump might indeed be the Last Muscle-Car President.
I am Laslo.
Trump's tweet is funny and to the point. The Democrats can't govern or run anything without waste, corruption and incompetence.
I do believe I will watch the SOTU speech tonight. I haven't in years.
Bill Peschel is correct in that Trump will be Presidential tonight. He can do that when the circumstances call for it. If he touches on Impeachment at all it will be in an indirect way.
He has some masterful speech writers and although he may put his own touches into the finished product, I predict he will stick to the script. There is always time to strut your stuff afterwards.
In relation to Trump, the Iowa vote shows that the Never Trumpers have no traction just as the Senate vote shows that the Republican party is lined up behind Trump. Meanwhile the Dems are heading toward cage matches between the present contenders from which will emerge mysteriously victorious the present non-contenders, Hillary and Bloomberg. The Bernie Bros reaction to that inevitability is an unknown quantity just as is the leap of saber-toothed tiger.
The password for the caucus app is jerry-jerry-jerry!
Republicans pounce.
I think Bloomberg won too.
Who is in charge of the stage management here?
Actually, I am beginning to wonder about Pelosi. The national Democratic Party may be much diminished, but she and her "leadership" is the last "man" standing.
How do you spend 5 billion dollars on a web site? Serious graft there, without a doubt.
The writers of the show we are all trapped in are just chuckin stuff in now. Next thing will be an announcement from NASA that SMOD is incoming for expected impact in late October in Florida. I should just stop giving them ideas.
Bloomberg definitely was the winner in this one. He will be there at the end, facing off against Bernie and his Bros. Billions vs Bernie. Again- there isn't enough popcorn for this summer/fall. My dentist is going to be very happy.
This makes Bloomberg look like a savior. This fuckup, though the fault of the DNC alone, makes them all look pathetic by association. Maybe a few million dollars to the right people got this done. Maybe we are underestimating mini-Mike.
At Trump's State of the Union speech, he should say something like this -- "If I tried, right now, to explain how screwed up the Democrat nomination process is, they'll try and impeach me again."

Mostly the Republicans can't either but since the MSM is against them, the Rs are at least under some sort of scrutiny. They can be at least held to SOME kind of standard and accountability (at least as far as word getting out). With Dems, "it all good!"
In his next term, Trump needs to take the gloves off and REALLY take a wrecking ball to DC!
I saw a giant "Michelle 2020" sign on someones house the other day.
Bernie and Bloomie - the millionaire and the billionaire. ha.
Since the democrats are batting 1,000 these days I can almost see a chunk of them walk out of the SOTU in protest because Orange Man Bad. They have deluded themselves into thinking they are 100% right about everything at all times. Why not?
No democrat lost last night. They never lose.
3 years of attacking the integrity of our election. Yesterday, the democrats kept hammering the point if Trump isn't removed from office he's going to steal the 2020 election.
It may be inflammatory to say 2020 could be the last election, as no one will trust the results. However, anyone with clear eyes can see "the last election" is on the horizon.

This is a failure of management. It goes to Tom Perez. He should lose his job. The app sounds simple enough. I used to design applications, I just wonder if the developers did some naive implementations which worked fine as long as the load was very light. Management never should have let them get away with anything other than massive stress testing under actual conditions.
It’s probably more a case of funneling money to politically helpful people instead of competent people.

Let me make this clear to you, ARM.
You're a fucking idiot.
A loathsome asshole on top of it.
I hope Trump does not release any part of his SOTU address beforehand. Our friends in the media will just use it to rip it apart before he ever walks into the House Chamber. Why help out your enemies?
Not to mention it helps the Democrats in preparing their response.

Jaydub at 7:29 wins the thread.
The mask came off last night. Bureaucratic incompetence is not a bug, but a feature for the Democrats. What is the purpose of the Democrat Party? It’s primary purpose has long bee to make its leaders and the top people who elect them, to get rich, and them even richer. Speaker Palsi, the last time that she had the oversized gavel, gave away the game, when selling Obama’s Porkulus stimulus package that she claimed was going to create millions of jobs. She claimed that every dollar spent by the government would return 4-5 dollars to the economy. Of course that was Keynesian economics, that had been empirically discredited for at least 30-40 years by then. FDR at least had an excuse. He didn’t know any better. The “economists” advising Obama knew better, but were in on the scam. She then went on to say that since the goal was government spending, they might as well spend it on their priorities. Which I suspected at the time, and it was borne out by reality, that what she meant was that Dem politicians, their families and cronies were about to hit the jackpot. And, of course, they did. They founded solar companies, “borrowed” hundreds of millions from the government, skimmed off most of it, then let the company go belly up. Or one politician’s spouse Becomes the primary contractor for a high speed rail project that is coming in well over budget, while family embers and cronies are the ones selling the land that the high speed trains are supposed to, maybe eventually, run on. No surprise that the kids of Biden, Kerry, Palsi Herself, Clinton, etc, all got lucrative do-nothing contracts as a result of this corruption (only Crooked Hillary was brash enough to actually benefit personally - her colleagues all seemed to have the decency to run most of the graft trough their kids).
It has long been evident that there are three parts of the Democratic Party. The cronies provide the money to get the politicians elected. Many of them get a cut of the action, a skim of all that spending that Dem politicians are always pushing. As Speaker Palsi pounded out a bit over a decade ago, it isn’t really important where the money is spent, as long as it is spent (and their cronies enriched). The second part consists of the party leadership and top tier politicians, who take their cut of the action, their slice of the skim. And the third part, the sheeple, who vote (even revote, and sometimes keep voting after death) for the politicians. The politicians have to convince te sheeple that they care that they really care about what the sheeple care about. At least at the top at least they don’t. They just have to appear to care. So last night we saw both Sanders and Warren (I believe) flying into and out of the same airports in separate private jets within less than a half hour. The GND is great as a way to garner support of the sheeple, but the reality is most top Dems don’t really care about the environment. What they care about, in reality, is getting the sheeple to vote for them. And for the money and power that comes from winning elections.
Part of this dynamic is that gives the excuses to spend more money increasing their base for skimming their cut. It also increases the number of people who are employed to address their policy goals, people whose livelihoods are dependent upon the politicians whose policy goals that they were hired to address. So, for the most part as bureaucrats, their primary goal is to build their bureaucratic empires, which is an incentive for incompetence. Their agencies don’t grow by being competent. That only results is cuts in their budgets. Incompetence is what drives budget increases.
You are like a brother to me ST. Stay strong.
Bernie took Iowa by storm, and it was a runaway landslide.
Now everyone will turn their attention to the bug in the app to explain what didn't happen last night.

Browndog,
You may think that you are kidding with the two parties joining or "fusing". It happens mostly in state and local politics. It happened once in the past at the presidential level with US Grant.
Why would we expect that it could not happen in national politics? I think what would drive it would be some strong third party that started winning national elections and running strong presidential candidate.
From Wikipedia
"Electoral fusion is an arrangement where two or more political parties on a ballot list the same candidate, pooling the votes for that candidate. Distinct from the process of electoral alliances in that the political parties remain separately listed on the ballot, the practice of electoral fusion in jurisdictions where it exists allows minor parties to influence election results and policy by offering to endorse or nominate a major party's candidate."

“What is it about democrats and technology? “
A question I frequently ask. The tech-savvy, hip, Now Generation of the progressive vanguard seems to have no idea how this shit works. And not just technically, but also in how they present themselves in the realm of social and New media.
I think it’s down to their near dominance of Old media. They spend so much time talking to themselves that quality control isn’t even a consideration. If you have all the right answers then there are no further questions to ask.
The Bernie Bros will stay home. SJW will stay home. Blacks will not be too enthusiastic and a few will switch to Trump.
@Bill, maybe more than “a few.” Black people in NYC referred to Bloomberg’s “stop and frisk” as “walking while black.” You can look it up! It was a pretty blatant case of racial profiling. Democrats are idiots if they think black people have forgotten.
ST, you are repeating yourself. I hope you realize this is not an entirely healthy sign. Try to mix it up a little next time with a "Get off my lawn!" or "You kids get out of my yard!". That'll fix 'em.
Colbert and Meyers will have fun with the odd use of capital letters and Quotation Marks, but "Trump" keeps winning.
Did midwesterners make and implement the app, ARM? Or was it your precious coasties that screwed the pooch. Shadow is not an Iowa company...
The entire process of the caucus was ungainly. As I said in the other thread, choosing whether to retain this inherently chaotic process rather than adopt a more straightforward measure of voter preferences was entirely the decision of the Iowans. The old ways are not always the best. A process that worked adequately when newspapers were the main conduit of information will not necessarily scale well when it is under the scrutiny of dozens if not hundreds of cable news reporters. To blame the software is to ignore the underlying problem.
Uh. ARM. As far as counting votes go, a caucus will obviously have a lot LESS votes to count than a full primary. A caucus by any measure should be far far easier to count. That you would suggest that it's an issue of scalability when the process you're criticizing is pretty much the *smallest* possible method is hilarious.
Can we please switch the Wisconsin Primary to a Caucus? Looks fun. At least there'd be bloody marys with beer chasers and some brandy old fashioned. And the Trump caucus goers would be having a blast.
Let Charlie Berens run the Democrat one, and David Blaska the GOP one.
Did you actually watch the process? I did for the first time on cable news. It was ridiculous, which I said at the time, well before the software problems. By scalable I meant the scaling of scrutiny, which should have been obvious. The obvious flaws of the system are hard to convey in print but self-evident in front of dozens of cable news cameras. Old, antiquated, noncompetitive, time for a change.

Don't ignore the good news. The development and testing team for the app had a representative from 87% of all DNC recognized victim groups AND absolutely NO white males! The caucus is a charming Iowa tradition like RAGBRAI, the state fair and the Bix race. Democrats of all stripes make it a point to attend, but not so much for Republicans. It is a simple task to tabulate votes just as it is easy and well practiced for the DNC mouthpiece Des Moines Register to provide a final poll.
The fact that both the caucuses and the final poll were supposedly screwed up by technical glitches is more suspicious than the murder of Seth Rich and the Vince Foster and Jeffrey Epstein suicides.
