"I tried to watch but kept switching to 'Dr. Strangelove' on Turner Movie Channel. Much better acting and the plot was far more hopeful."

Writes Owen in the comments to this morning's post, "Mini Mike Bloomberg’s debate performance tonight was perhaps the worst in the history of debates, and there have been some really bad ones."

I think one of Bloomberg's biggest problem is that there is no one around him that can say: "Mike that's a bad idea" or "Just no Mike.".

Do you all realize? That IF we'd had that nuclear exchange, and ridded the the world of Fluoride;
We'd be more than halfway through the time we'd need to stay in the mineshafts?
in 36 years; we (and our beautiful female companions) would be able to ride the elevators up;
and walk out, into a wonderful fluoride free world!!!

Dr. Strangelove is my favorite movie. There isn't a wasted second in the whole thing. What great performances all around. It has aged well.

It just noses out "Casablanca" for the top spot, another ageless classic.

I think Team Ripper's machine gun bursts drag a bit and slow the whole thing down.

"and the plot was far more hopeful."

Too funny.

Last night was all about Princess Fauxchahontas shoring up her socialist bona fides in hope of the VP handmaiden spot on the Tovarishch Bernie ticket.

I was surprised by Bloomberg's performance. When I saw his stage videos you shared the other day, and considered that he'd been the mayor of NYC for quite some time, I figured he'd have the stage presence, comfort level and chops to really shine.

"i tried to watch..." That's funny, and with more than a little truth in it.

however, unlike most, i think bloomberg may have won the debate and was kinda pleased with the outcome. going in, Little B knew they were going to throw all this cultural marxism folderol at him. and the more they threw the higher he rose in the eyes of the moderate wing of the party-yes the moderate wing of the democratic party actually exists.
if he had just looked a little steadier and more confident i think he could have expected some stronger support on the hustings.

I watched Dr Strangelove last night while switching back and forth from PJmedia blog of the debate and Althouse's son's. PJmedia was more fun, but the other was more professional. I'd never visited Althouses son's site before, I will in the future.

It is the greatest movie of all time. Without the machine-gunning scenes how was group Captain Mandrake to surreptitiously interrogate ripper to obtain the recall code? "Feed me Jack feed me you said"

Maillard Reactionary म्हणाले...

I like when Ripper tells Mandrake, the British officer, "The Redcoats are coming!"

Just the visual of him pulling the M2 out of his golf bag is great.

I did the exact same thing.

Who among the Dem presidential debaters could you see taking the place of General Jack Ripper as a psychotic, deranged destroyer of civilization?

Tougher question: Who among them CAN'T you see doing that?

Martin म्हणाले...

"...We'll meet again, don't know where, don't know when..."

Much more hopeful than the Democrats' whole 2020 campaign.

Robert Cook म्हणाले...

I watched DR. STRANGELOVE last night, didn't even consider watching any of the Dems exhale air.

STRANGELOVE is a brilliant movie, with a sterling script, wonderful sets and photography, and brilliant performances from all concerned...except for one grating, blaring black hole of wretchedness: Sellers' Dr. Strangelove, particularly his unrestrained hamming slapstick monologue as he describes our wonderful future in the mineshafts while fighting to keep his right arm from making the "Heil, Hitler" salute of its own accord.

AWFUL!! A migraine headache of a performance.

narciso म्हणाले...

it's said that the Strangelove performance was loosely based on Hermann kahn, as grotenauer was on Kissinger,
