"It ranks in the top 10% of the study for six out of the 10 metrics we considered. It does the best across all 100 cities overall for both its low unemployment rate, at 1.9%, and its low percentage of workers with a commute longer than 60 minutes, at 2.3%. Workers there have an average commute time of less than 20 minutes and work less than 37 hours per week on average. With all the time they’re saving, they’ll be able to enjoy other meaningful activities such as checking out art galleries or spending time with friends. Arts, entertainment and recreation establishments in Madison comprise about 2.2% of all establishments and bars comprise more than 1% of all establishments, both top-10 rates."

Nice list.
Madison today: 24°. Sleet, snow.
Sarasota today: 72°. Partly cloudy/sunny.
I'll stay put.
Numbers 7 and 10 on the list are areas of the Las Vegas Valley, but not that horrible Sin City.
I have a great work-life balance and spend zero time in art galleries.
My work-life balance is terrible, because I haven't worked in years. And eventually I'll run out of life, too.
Hmm...how many different ways can we say that whiter cities are better cities?
Yay Madison! I can’t wait to move there to my new condo this spring. I’ll be closer to my two little grandsons in Monona too, win win. I love that Madison has the bigger city feel within a small city and her suburbs. Goodbye Waukesha County and big house. Hello Dane County in your your liberal loveliness.
J. Farmer Hmm...how many different ways can we say that whiter cities are better cities?
Nailed it.
I think any town where the primary employer is the government, with its higher wages, better benefits, and lack of towing the line on even a 32- to 36-hour workweek, you are going to have a happy bunch of people! (And also a group feeling much superior to those dumb cheeseheads in say, Green Bay or Eau Claire, who's taxes are supporting Madison's great work-life balance.)
Waukesha County African American/black 1.7%
Dane County African American/black 5.5%
I find it funny that Columbus, OH is #5 and Portland, OR is #6, as I've described Columbus to some of my cow orkers as "Portland about twenty years ago."
toeing
Ho-hum, another bullshit piece of sociological sophistry.
How does one assign a numerical value to "work-life balance"? Dice throws? And how is work distinct from life? There are a few evidently undead commenters haunting Althouse, but that's not work, per se. (I definitely could be mistaken on that one.)
Bullshit is quantifiable, but only in units of volume and mass.
Wonder what the taxes are like in this wonderful city? Crime rate? Rates for Utilities?
Ann?
What is the best way to ruin work-life balance in a city??
Put it on a list!!
Inga is obviously a racist as she has lived voluntarily in a county that has merely 11% of the expected African American population. Nor is there much evidence of reform in moving to a county with less than half the expected African American population.
arrrggghhhh.......Put it on the TOP of a list.
@Inga:
Waukesha County African American/black 1.7%
Dane County African American/black 5.5%
Madison, WI: 6.38% black
Milwaukee, WI: 40% black
I like Madison as I do all smaller University towns. Madison is in the Wisconsin cultural beer district. I went to the art fair and met some local friends who walked around drinking more than 6 beers each in 2 hours, including the girls. perhaps Iran will bomb the Pabst cultural heritage site.
Numbers 7 and 10 on the list are areas of the Las Vegas Valley, but not that horrible Sin City.
Isn't Paradise, NV just the Las Vegas airport? How nice can living there be with hundreds of planes landing and taking off every day.
I'm with Quaester. These lists are bullshit. I wonder if cities pay to be on these lists.
Well, there you go, validation that you should not move, there ain't no better place.
She's proud that she's moving someplace that's a whole 5% black, lmao. Way to be down with the cause, sister!
@Quaestor:
Ho-hum, another bullshit piece of sociological sophistry.
100% agree. It's sociological MadLibs. There seems to be an entire cottage industry that puts out the "Top ______ city to ________ "
Wonder what the taxes are like in this wonderful city? Crime rate? Rates for Utilities?
I remember one post from Althouse where she was thinking of moving because her taxes were so high. I remember because her taxes where higher than my PITI! Probably 6-10 thousand a year.
I see Paradise, NV is #10 on the list. That'll change next year when the Raiders start play in their new stadium in - you guessed it - Paradise, NV! Then again, I'd rather be in NV than Portland, OR where work-life balance isn't the issue, staying alive in deep downtown is the issue.
“Inga is obviously a racist as she has lived voluntarily in a county that has merely 11% of the expected African American population. Nor is there much evidence of reform in moving to a county with less than half the expected African American population.”
Althouse and Meade guilty too, eh?
Original Mike and Madison Man, guilty too, eh?
@Inga:
The second you voluntarily move into a predominantly black neighborhood, we'll talk.
“@Inga:
The second you voluntarily move into a predominantly black neighborhood, we'll talk.”
Talk about what? Not being a racist? So are all the people who live in Madison racist? Althouse, Meade, OM, Madison Man, etc. the charge of racism falls pretty flat. So are all the cities and counties that have a higher white population have racists inhabiting them? You do realize that there are mostly conservative people who live in Waukesha County?

PCBFL had a high of 70 or 71, lots of sun and low wind today. Metoo!

With all due respect, that is not an allegation I ever leveled at you. Do I think people who choose to move/live in predominantly white areas are "racists?" Absolutely not. Do I think people make decisions to move to places with low crime, a high standard of living, and good schools (which will result in "racist" (i.e. avoiding blacks) outcomes)? Absolutely!
I summer in Minnesota.
OMG I was just in Paradise Nevada, last weekend! My unofficial take on the "city with one of the best work-life balance": We almost got robbed by one of their citizens, who stole a suitcase from the hotel parking lot, but we chased her and her two associates down, and retrieved the bag. Most of the community seems to be housed in old 2 story former hotels converted to slum apartments. There appears to be one supermarket in "town" but it is probably not actually in town (it is not an actual town, merely an unincorporated part of Clark County), but there are dozens of 7-11s and McDonalds, each of which seems to house some of the homeless population, and have security police! The "town" council is made up of casino managers, none of whom would live there. The crime rate in Paradise is 72% higher than the national average. 18% poverty rate, which fits my observation. Sandwiched between the airport, the convention center, and I-515, it has little room for suburban expansion.
That's all the stats I can think of. Wonder how many people who read this article are thinking of picking up and moving to Paradise?
I grew up in Milwaukee and worked in Milwaukee for 35 plus years. My husband and I moved to Waukesha County because we wanted to raise our kids in the country, yet be near enough to Milwaukee to be near our jobs. As for moving to Madison, the condo I have in mind is actually less expensive in Madison, than in Waukesha County, plus I’ll be nearer to my two little grandsons and can help out my daughter with child care when she needs me to. My other three grandkids in Waukesha County (and off to college) are older and no longer need babysitting.
Curious since you're spouting: what are the racial demographics in YOUR world? White conservative gays like yourself are not exactly living in the hood, far as I know...
Depends on what you mean by "my world"
I live in Hillsborough County, with the following demographics:
48% White Alone, 29.2% Hispanic or Latino, and 15.6% Black or African American Alone.
But I also live in Davis Island, with the following demographics:
96.23% White Alone 1.44% Black or African American
There's a lesson there. And in case it's not obvious, I'll explain: anyone with half a brain and an ounce of self-preservationist instinct avoids blacks at all cost.
The FL panhandle is very different than south Florida. It is the vacationland of many people in AL, GA, TN, etc. due to its gulf breezes, as it is known as the redneck riviera.
Inga writes: My husband and I moved to Waukesha County because we wanted to raise our kids in the country, yet be near enough to Milwaukee to be near our jobs.
Freely translated from the Wokish: Some of my best friends are Negroes.
“Freely translated from the Wokish: Some of my best friends are Negroes.”
So Quackster, where do you live? Or do you just accuse others of what you suffer from? Put your money where your mouth is.
"Sarasota today: 72°. Partly cloudy/sunny."
Sarasota has the ineradicable disadvantage of being in Florida.
john: "That's all the stats I can think of. Wonder how many people who read this article are thinking of picking up and moving to Paradise?"
Like the old country song, you're on the wrong side of Paradise.
First reaction: Cheese and brats supremacy. There ought to be a law.
Second reaction: Thank God I don't live there in the winter.
In my city white people are 35%, but that's ok because we have all the money.
“First reaction: Cheese and brats supremacy. There ought to be a law.“
Don’t forget the beer and all the excellent microbreweries!
Wow! You are an out and out bigot, sir!
Here's my simple thought experiment in response:
Imagine you are alone, late at night, walking to your car in a parking garage. You hear footsteps behind you. You turn to look and it's one of three possible scenarios...
1) A young black male behind you
2) A young white male behind you
3) A young asian male behind you
If you tell me that the racial identity makes no difference to your level of worry/concern, then I will say you're a god damned liar. If you tell me you'd feel more comfortable if the footsteps weren't coming from a black male, I'd say you're honest. And not a bigot.
Every human being is judged on their individual merit and character. But that says nothing about how you judge groups. Stereotypes become stereotypes for a reason.
"There's a lesson there. And in case it's not obvious, I'll explain: anyone with half a brain and an ounce of self-preservationist instinct avoids blacks at all cost."
Spoken like someone who has not worked or associated with or known any blacks to any significant degree. It startles me that someone who is so astute in other matters has such a significant and unfortunate blind spot in this regard.
Bigots who classify whole groups of people by their skin color would not be welcome here for long, I don't think. They might choose to self segregate and move to an uber-white place, J.Farmer.
I am not classifying people by their "skin color," I am classifying people by their ancestry. And I am so happy that you "live in an apartment building complex with whites, blacks, Hispanics, and a growing number of Asian people," but go move to a city that is 70+ percent black and then come back and tell me how wonderful you are.
“I am classifying people by their ancestry.”
You don’t like black Africans? Are white Africans ok?
@Robert Cook:
Spoken like someone who has not worked or associated with or known any blacks to any significant degree.
And yet, nearly 30% of my employees are black (granted they have master's degree education or more) and nearly 70% of my clients are black, but I guess I've never "worked or associated with or known any blacks to any significant degree."
And by the way, my work with black clients involved spending 20+ hours per week in their homes and schools, interviewing them, testing them, interviewing their families and teachers, and trying to craft solutions to curb their self-destructive behaviors. Perhaps, Robert, you could explain to me the level that you have "worked or associated with or known any blacks."
Admiral Inga: "So Quackster, where do you live? Or do you just accuse others of what you suffer from?"
Yes, Inga the Queen of Conspiracies who also accuses others of believing in conspiracies wrote that.
Just now.
Without irony.
“And yet, nearly 30% of my employees are black (granted they have master's degree education or more) and nearly 70% of my clients are black, but I guess I've never "worked or associated with or known any blacks to any significant degree."
And you don’t like any of them?
@Inga:
You don’t like black Africans? Are white Africans ok?
How many "white Africans" were there 250 years ago? That's a recent phenomenon and completely beside the point. Race is basically a question of where your ancestors lived 500 years ago (i.e. before the Colombian Exchange)?
Josephbleau said...
In my city white people are 35%
Mine too. And I have extremely high living expenses so that I can live around other white people. That's the white tax
As someone who just finished a 13-hour day, these people in Madison can just go fuck themselves.
@Inga:
And you don’t like any of them?
Oh my god. I'll repeat what I said earlier: "Every human being is judged on their individual merit and character."
There is a fundamental difference between discussing groups and discussing individuals. Men are stronger than women is a true statement, even if you can find many women who are stronger than many men.
Nobody is saying that "all X people are this way..." What we are saying is that the average difference in X behavior is different than the average behavior in Y.
If I were to say, "Asians commit less crimes than whites" (which is true), would your immediate response be, "Oh my go why are you such a bigot?"
Lev Parnas is currently my favorite Trump associate. It's always a competitive field but Parnas is bringing the heat at the moment.
“Race is basically a question of where your ancestors lived 500 years ago (i.e. before the Colombian Exchange)?”
I wonder how many people truly know what ancestry they have? Light colored skin doesn’t necessarily connote a completely 100% European ancestry. Look at the people back in the day who “passed” for white until some grandchild or great grandchild had some DNA testing and a hookup with Gedmatch.
Your experiences seem to be limited to the black people you are paid to counsel,...
Reread what I wrote 20 minutes ago: "And yet, nearly 30% of my employees are black (granted they have master's degree education or more)..."
Try again.
@Inga:
I wonder how many people truly know what ancestry they have? Light colored skin doesn’t necessarily connote a completely 100% European ancestry. Look at the people back in the day who “passed” for white until some grandchild or great grandchild had some DNA testing and a hookup with Gedmatch.
You are quite talented at destroying straw men, but it has nothing to do with anything I've said. Where did I ever claim that "light colored skin" means you are "completely 100% European ancestry?"
“Where did I ever claim that "light colored skin" means you are "completely 100% European ancestry?"
I didn’t say you said it. My argument counters your comment about avoiding black people at all costs. Just WHO do you consider black enough to avoid?
Most if these best cities to live in surveys have a direct or implied wokeness metric and not in the lesser is better way, so now I ignore the studies...
@Inga:
WHO do you consider black enough to avoid?
Simple. The people who describe themselves as "black." How do you think demographics works in this country?
ARM is about 48 hours late on the Lev Parnas walkbacks (see NYT and Tapper suggesting caution today on accepting Parnas comments at face value) from the hyped TV interviews.
Not bad for ARM. He-s usually weeks behind.
My 2 favorite Michael Cohen-like talking point collapses are:
1) Parnas claimed Devin Nunes was in Vienna secretly (EXACTLY like the idiot lefties claimed Cohen had been Prague secretly)...Spoiler: He wasnt
2) In the same 3 consecutive sentence discussion on TV, Parnas gave three different answers to questons regarding his ludicrous claims about Mike Pence:
2a) Pence "absolutely" knew what was "going on"..
2b) Pence 'probably" knew what was "going on"...
2c) Well gee, Pence 'had to know, right?"....
LOLOLOL
Yeah, something tells me this latest Avenatti/Cohen/Mueller/Ciaramello hoax "whistleblower" "Guy Who Will Bring Down Trump!!!" is going to fail like all the other liars.
Those poor black people must really need a job bad to work for a grown man who can write this: ""And in case it's not obvious, I'll explain: anyone with half a brain and an ounce of self-preservationist instinct avoids blacks at all cost."
You may be surprised to learn that educated blacks tend to have a much more negative opinion of lower-class blacks than whites do? But of course, you expect all "black people" to be opposed to me and share on opinion, not on the basis of its truth but on the basis that people with similar skin colors to them agree with it. In other words, you expect blacks to agree with other blacks purely on the basis of their ancestry. But I'm the bigot? Ooooookay.
Farmer, I think you might have burn out syndrome and maybe it wouldn’t be a bad idea to take a sabbatical from the type of work you do. I have to wonder if you have your clients’ best interests at heart. I usually respect your commentary, but this comment just was too much.
“And in case it's not obvious, I'll explain: anyone with half a brain and an ounce of self-preservationist instinct avoids blacks at all cost."
The only town on that list that I have any experience living in is Lexington, KY (#3), and it is a place to which I would quite willingly return, though it has been 35 years since I did so (of course, I have been there more recently on visits, and it hasn't changed much). It is also a university dominated small city (University of Kentucky).
Just an observation, but Inga seems to be obsessed with race.
I have spent quite a bit time in Nashville in the last 6 years and I love the place, but I was suprised to find it on the list- very crowded by my judgment, and the traffic is a pain in the ass.
Trump Just Hired Jeffrey Epstein’s Lawyers
Who could have seen that comming? I mean, what possible relationship could there be between a pedophile murdered in a federal prison and the president of the United States?
Madison, WI: 6.38% black
@Inga:
Farmer, I think you might have burn out syndrome and maybe it wouldn’t be a bad idea to take a sabbatical from the type of work you do. I have to wonder if you have your clients’ best interests at heart. I usually respect your commentary, but this comment just was too much.
Right, Inga, the only possible way to understand me is to assume that I have "burn out syndrome." It can't possibly be do the fact that I've looked at the same evidence/history as you and come away with a different conclusion. Oh no, certainly not that. It must be because I'm diseased in some way. That's the only way to explain why I might've reached different conclusions than you. By all means, please remind us what open-minded truth seekers liberals are and what close-minded bigots conservatives are.
I think you would agree with me that, unlike most of the commenters here, I do not jump on you for having a different point of view or opinion. And yet, that is exactly what you are doing to me.
Jeffrey Epstein's lawyers kept him out of prison, so they must be good at their jobs. I certainly wouldn't want lawyers who got their client's sent to prison, would you ARM?
Who knows, maybe Trump had something to do with the Bulow killing!
Yancey, I agree with your assessment of Nashville traffic. Almost never a good time to drive through.
So, in summary, Inga and ARM are going to go with the Trump is a Hitler/pedophile strategy.
Gee, that doesnt sound like abject desperation at all.
LOL
Please God, let these idiots run with that all the way to November.
Gee...I wonder why whenever I say that men commit more crime than women, nobody ever calls me a bigot. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
“I think you would agree with me that, unlike most of the commenters here, I do not jump on you for having a different point of view or opinion. And yet, that is exactly what you are doing to me.”
Farmer, I’m sorry if I hurt your feelings. I truly don’t understand what you meant by this.
“And in case it's not obvious, I'll explain: anyone with half a brain and an ounce of self-preservationist instinct avoids blacks at all cost."
Do you want to explain what you meant by this any further?
Map of Madison
Farmer (to Inga): "In other words: I have no response to your arguments but I'll just keep calling you a bigot."
Well, the Parnas ploy just collapsed and the economic numbers are rocking and rolling and the military is in a renaissance and we caught another dem-beloved Iran-backed bad guy leader today and the Trade deals are all coming to fruition and manufacturing is soaring and Consumer Confidence is at a 19 year high and inflation is steady well below 3% and wages are rising across all quintuples and we have record employment and productivity is up and illegal immigration is down 70% and the Mexicans are cutting off the caravans and on and on and on.
Hence: Trump is Hitler and a pedophile!!!
LOL
Yeah, that should work.....
YES, you're the bigot.
That must explain why you don't live in a community that is 80+% black. Right?
I guarantee you, even the most self-loathing of the bunch would not be capable of writing, as you did: "And in case it's not obvious, I'll explain: anyone with half a brain and an ounce of self-preservationist instinct avoids blacks at all cost."
And yet I know many blacks who prefer to date non-blacks. I guess they need you to explain to them what they would and would not be "capable of writing."
Sometimes its best to just stop digging.
“Farmer (to Inga): "In other words: I have no response to your arguments but I'll just keep calling you a bigot."
Farmer was not directing this to me.
In the real world, there are no islands to retreat to that have no men, like you have found on your island that is safely 96.2 percent white.
And in my own scenario of the parking garage, your response to being followed by a man would not be identical to being followed by a woman. There's obviously no way to explain being more worried about a man than a woman except through bigotry against men.
ARM: "Sometimes its best to just stop digging."
Agreed, but the dems cant help themselves.
@Inga:
Farmer, I’m sorry if I hurt your feelings. I truly don’t understand what you meant by this.
You're not important enough to hurt my feelings.
Do you want to explain what you meant by this any further?
Sure. In general, predominantly black places are less good than predominantly white places. There's a reason that there are many more Haitans who want to move to Florida than Floridians who want to move to Haiti.
Don and Bill, another odd couple.
Btw, the Trump admin chose today, Michelle Obamas birthday, to rid us of the horrific and wasteful Michelle school lunch rules.
School lunch guidelines that, naturally, her own daughters never had to experience because "duh".
So, ARM is adding accusations of rape to the dems 2020 campaign strategy which now has 3 themes: Trump is a pedophile rapist Hitler.
Well, thats gotta be better than talking about the dem candidates.
Btw, the Trump admin chose today, Michelle Obamas birthday, to rid us of the horrific and wasteful Michelle school lunch rules.
Oh give me a fucking brake. This is a perfect example of Obama Derangement Syndrome.
Farmer: "Oh give me a fucking brake. This is a perfect example of Obama Derangement Syndrome."
The guidelines were real. School kids across the country were affected. The rules were soundly criticized as being terrible with large increases in the number of school lunch participant kids not even willing to eat the crap thus increasing waste.
And now those rules are gone.
That this upsets you strikes me as odd.
@Drago:
The guidelines were real. School kids across the country were affected. The rules were soundly criticized as being terrible with large increases in the number of school lunch participant kids not even willing to eat the crap thus increasing waste.
And what were these "guidelines?"
Trump May Be Even More Unpopular Than His Approval Rating Shows
How is it possible?
They were carp, like the exchamge her classmate designed that was wide open to russian hackers.
(If you're well paid, is that how you distinguish your work, in your head, from that of SJW's that we all love to criticize here?)
So when I have an 11-year-old black client who is being pimped out by his crack-addicted mother, and I recommend the child be removed from the home, placed into protective custody, the mother prosecuted, and intensive family services provided to help the child, what part of my bigotry do you think is showing there? Perhaps you can tell me what you've done for poor black children in this country compared to what I've done. Other than making anonymous comments on Ann Althouse's blog, of course!
“Trump May Be Even More Unpopular Than His Approval Rating Shows

I’ve long suspected this.
All these work-live balance articles may have some items to think about, but I presume most North Americans eagerly await finding out which city takes home the prize of having the best work-sex balance.

Debunked 24 hours ago.
GAO cannot make a ruling on legality (though they keep trying)
Administrative rulings only, requiring potentially only administrative changes.
Carries no force of law.
Moneys were dispersed within the allowable window per statute.
GAO has had similar findings against Obama and W Bush and just about every other President with zero impact.
OMB has already blown them out of the water and told them to drop dead.
Other than that ARM, nice try Tiger!
Do try and keep up.
Where is beaks now,
Tonight, Farmer like Tyson before Buster Davis.
Naturally, two womens know better than Farmer 'cause they know some nice black people and they have several black friends.

Work-life balance bullshit. How do they know how much I have to work? Or to live, for that matter.
So, lets see where ARM is so far tonight on 2020 dem campaign themes:
- Trump is Hitler
- Trump is a pedophile
- Trump is a rapist
- GAO!!
- The polls "prove" Trump is losing (please forget 2016!!)
Well, that is certainly an impressive lineup.

47% of President Trump's Milwaukee campaign rally attendees were African Americans. African Americans, that had to stand in line, in sub-freezing temperatures, for hours, to attend a political rally. President Trump's campaign rally.
Chew on that statistic
"Portland, Oregon does particularly well for its high number of bars as a percentage of all establishments, at 1.22%"
Alcoholics, when you think of it, are always working on that life-work balance. Plus, they lose their licences so need to be close to work...and bars.

Nashville.
A friend from there calls it "Nash Vegas"
Speaking of Vegas - I'm trying to set up a trip to the Vegas market near the end of the month. best place to stay? I have no idea.
I am always delighted when my town and the towns near me don't make any of these insipid lists.
Go.
Away.
We.
Are.

Best place to live where progressive leaders make drug use, free needles in the park, and homelessness a breeze?
That would be a fun list.
Looking at the chart, San Francisco best as far as income to housing cost ratio.
Inga to farmer, “it’s only a flesh wound”
My bad. That's what I get, posting from memory. 57.9% of the crowd were NOT Republicans,
That pretty much proves President Trump is less popular than polls indicate. When almost 60% of your crowd isn't a member of your party.
I'm trying to set up a trip to the Vegas market near the end of the month. best place to stay? I have no idea.
High Point.
What Did GAO Staff Know and When Did They Know It?
There’s also a reasonable question about the use of the term “nonpartisan”. A Journal reader raised this issue in a comment posted under Thursday’s column. “The so-called ‘nonpartisan’ GAO’s bureaucrats are represented by the AFL-CIO’s International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers whose PAC in 2016 gave 100% of its donations to Democrats and 0% to Republicans. This creature of Congress is a perfect example of the swamp...
As for Thursday’s news-making memo, GAO acknowledges in a footnote that its opinion was rendered at the request of Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D., Md.), who repeatedly prodded GAO staff to say whether they agreed with his claim of a Trump legal violation.
But in the body of its opinion, GAO doesn’t say it’s acting to serve one of its legislative bosses but instead claims: “Pursuant to our role under the [Impoundment Control Act], we are issuing this decision.”
Under section 686 GAO “shall” make a report on the deferral to both Houses of Congress. The GAO report then operates as if it were the required notification from the President. That gives Congress 45 days to act (or, if the notice comes with less than 45 days remaining in the fiscal year, until September 30).
Here, by not acting until the fourth month of the following fiscal year, GAO failed to do what section 686 requires.
“My bad. That's what I get, posting from memory. 57.9% of the crowd were NOT Republicans,
That pretty much proves President Trump is less popular than polls indicate. When almost 60% of your crowd isn't a member of your party.”

State Capitol/state university combination is always a killer combination for producing high quality of life scores for rankings such as this. So Madison, Lincoln, Columbus were not a surprise, and Austin came in a respectable #13.
"work less than 37 hours per week on average"
With all the city, state, and UW workers the "less" is a lot less. And work is "work."
Often those with the most snot take the top spot, snot-wise that is.
Buwaya said and I knew what is happening here, but you fucks still don't I presume.
Idiots.
Althouse claims, seemingly with presumptions I conjecture as educated as guesses can be, editorial bias is something that would need to be proved in court against her, something she's spent a literal lifetime making sure doesn't happen, otherwise it didn't happen.
Self-prophesuccess.
Free spirits can do what they wnat.
The list is suspect simply by looking at the San Francisco % income spent on housing.
stop wasting time on it. It's wrong.
What a horrible error on my part.
Narciso has done so much, and me so little.
I will hopefully learn from my indiscretions, but please let me make one thing clear: Online time is the worst example, in the real world, you could be using your time for.
This is the trap. This is the game. But, it is also a lifeline too. That is the trap.
But we have support networks that let us know this.
Like Althouse.
And me.
And me brother.
Why, instead of 2001 Kubrick, aren't all visually-screened computers on the walls mocha or chartreuse?
My TV is off and I see a black Kubrick.
Very disrespectful to many, many who suffered.

Better to care a way about a border wall, or in my case Gram Parsons, than the walls in your living environ spying on you for you dollars you pay them.
Damn, did even my last post get deleted for merely mentioning the commenter who shall not be named?

This list has Buffalo on it. Have you been to Buffalo?

Wallow in your ignorance. I refuse to play.
Eric said Have you been to Buffalo. That was my immediate take. Buffalo???? Henderson NV is expanding due to CA's taxation exodus.
“Numbers 7 and 10 on the list are areas of the Las Vegas Valley, but not that horrible Sin City.”
Paradise IS the core of Sin City.
“Isn't Paradise, NV just the Las Vegas airport? How nice can living there be with hundreds of planes landing and taking off every day.”
It also includes a part of the Strip.
Commutes to/from Paradise shouldn’t be that bad. The distances aren’t that great. The problem is that the Las Vegas transportation grid sucks. The freeway system stays 20 years behind transportation needs. When they should be adding two new freeway lanes, the add only one, then add the second one 10 years later. And don’t bother trying to get up or down Las Vegas Blvd at almost anytime of day, except maybe 2-5 AM. Otherwise it is rush hour. Only place I know of in this country with an almost 24 hr a day rush hour. I find Paradise mostly horrid, except for the glitter of the casinos. But the offices of the last law firm I worked for were spectacular.
My partner grew up in Henderson. It has grown immensely since then. It now essentially surrounds Las Vegas to the east and south now. Back then, it was a nice inner suburb, with decent schools. Heavily Mormon back then. Since then, the population has exploded. Mostly the same sort of stucco and tile houses that predominate here in the newer parts of Phoenix. I expected to live there if I got transferred to Las Vegas in my last job.
I feel sorry for Inga’s progeny. They weren’t given a fair shot in the brains department
I find it interesting none of these 'Best Cities/Places to Live' lists never seem to include the freaking weather.
Waukesha County African American/black 1.7%
Dane County African American/black 5.5%
Who's the racist? The one who never thinks about race or the one who's constantly obsessed with it?
" traffic [in Nashville] is a pain in the ass."
Here's hoping Yancey never learns about Seattle. ;-)
What with the commies and the snow, it just wouldn’t work for me.
