Lovely photos. I should retire to Madison (Dane County) once Warren is elected next Nov. I will hang up my spurs (i.e., political consultancy) and retire in a cabin there.

As someone relatively nearby Madison, I don't mind at all that this Christmas has no snow. And it is another plus that it is jacket weather.

Merry Christmas to everyone.

“Stay warm”

It went up to 55 today. We went out hiking in the woods. I wore a light jacket and got hot.

The Shop Around the Corner is showing on TCM. The movie stars Margaret Sullivan, mother of Brooke Hayward, wife of Dennis Hopper for a brief time. Worth a watch.

A Presidential message(my emphasis):

"Melania and I send our warmest greetings to those celebrating Christmas in the United States and around the world. During this joyous time of year, we join a grateful Nation in thanking God for His abundant blessings and boundless love.

As families, friends, and communities come together to rejoice in the birth of Christ, we are reminded of the divine message from the first Christmas: “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.” While the challenges that face our country are great, the bonds that unite us as Americans are much stronger. Together, we must strive to foster a culture of deeper understanding and respect—traits that exemplify the teachings of Christ.

As we celebrate Christmas, we remember the precious religious liberties our forefathers so righteously fought to secure. We also pause to pay tribute to those courageous men and women of our Armed Forces who continue to fight for our cherished freedoms. As Commander in Chief, I salute them for their service and thank their family members for their shared sacrifice in this noble mission, especially during the holiday season.

We hope your heart is filled with the love and joy of your faith, family, and friends this Christmas. We send our best wishes for a merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year."

Warm day; Venus was clear a while ago.

One of things I do like about our solsticial saturnalia is the food. My wife insisted on making butter cookies and chocolate crinkle cookies, for which she is justifiably famous (does this make me a Wife Guy?), so yesterday afternoon and until late last night we baked cookies. About 60 b.c. and 40 c.c.c. This was in addition to the two different barks and killer fudge we did last week.

Our son baked a ham, plus cheesy noodles and cheesy squash (he cooks like his grandmothers did, though neither did much cooking by the time he arrived . . . maybe he has a genetic predisposition to cook like a 60s housewife). By 2 JAN 2020 I'll be tmumblfy pounds over where I need to be.

I had to make sure there were no pedestrians in the crossing on pic #2. Good catch!

Here our urban fabric is changing, due mostly to the aging population of Boomers and boomerkins into walking, biking, and outdoor city life. Those pedestrian/bike crossings proliferate in numbers and complexity and must lead--at least at first--to more accidents, I would think.

The broad suburban streets of the 1940s-70s, where kids walked to and from school at predictable times, now have foot and bike traffic of all kinds at all different times, with no fewer cars, etc, sharing the same but more complex space. Overnight sometimes, what might have been a quick mile along a car-friendly four lanes with one or two stop signs or lights now has bike and foot lanes and crossings, more signs, maybe actual flashing lights programmed to show at random intervals--all the modern contrivances. Keeps me on my toes, and my toes on the brake.

In Berlin it took us a while to catch on to the distinctively paved (or marked) bike and walking lanes--woe to the dummkopf who delays a bike-riding Berliner, especially one pedalling a kid or two in some distant descendant of a Tiger tank. Maybe that's true in all great and large cities . . .

Lazy holiday in our house. I made a huge batch of French Beef Stew on Sunday so no cooking necessary for a week at least. Have been in sweats since Tuesday am. Binging Netflix, smoking weed, and drawing while I listen to music. Partner doing same, just switch out the drawing for smoking a bowl of tobacco out of his new briar pipe from Italy.

Happy Holidays!

It seems like impeachment has dissipated into the ground clutter. If Nancy had just passed it to the Senate for dismissal the Dems would have a clear deck to create an election strategy for 2020, but they could not help themselves. Folks like Durbin the Dick will have to start attacking the FBI soon to distance the new candidates from the Hillary/Obama madness. They will need scapegoats to protect Comey who will flip if they don't save him; Hillary is rotting meat at this point.

Obama needs to focus on making netflix shows on music criticism and the dust bins of jazz, remaining strictly non-political.

OANN 2 hour special with Rudy Guiliani using his mafia busting techniques investigating the Ukraine corruption. Bribes, money laundering and more with Biden INC. at the epicenter. Us State dept blocking Ukrainian first hand witnesses from entry into America. Dems gonna get carpet bombed like Rolling Thunder when Durham brings the whip down!

BUMBLE BEE म्हणाले...

Guiliani has the documentation to destroy the impeachment as well. This is gonna be a hoot.

It would be hilarious if Senate RINOs forced a real trial, permitting no other recourse than to have Giuliani bring the full evidence of money laundering against Hunter Biden, which wouldn't just kill the impeachment but should definitely IMO require obstruction of justice charges be brought against those who did everything they could to protect Biden (including the impeachment itself).

“While we have no doubt that behaviors exhibited by Trump are similar to symptoms observed in persons suffering from dementia, we are concerned that while no specific diagnosis can be definitively ruled out, the public behaviors displayed by Trump may be explicable by multiple individual or combined issues other than (albeit possibly including) a degenerative neurocognitive disorder,”

Neurocognitive disorder (NCD) is collectively referred to as ”dementia,” and are those that involve impairments in cognitive abilities such as memory, problem solving, and perception. [Nonmotor] NCDs commonly result from Alzheimer’s . . . disease.

Rumors of dementia dogged Ronald Reagan throughout his first presidential campaign, where much attention was focused on the 69-year-old’s age (at the time, Reagan was the oldest incoming President until Trump). Official diagnosis of Reagan's Alzheimer disease was confirmed after he left office but post analysis also detected variations in Reagan’s vocabulary during his time in office which could point to early signs of dementia.

The difference between personalities of these presidents is worrisome. Reagan's cabinet got caught in Iran Contra while operating outside authority granted to these offices - but Trump is a demented dictator.

Airy, abstract words are the currency of democratic politics. Conservatism, liberalism, nationalism, democracy, socialism—you have to use them, but they can easily gum up your thought. George Orwell famously objected to the haphazard use of “fascism,” and before him Samuel Taylor Coleridge complained bitterly that “Jacobin” has “either no meaning, or a very vague one: for definite terms are unmanageable things, and the passions of men do not readily gather round them.”

“The Power of Words,” a 1937 essay by the French Christian philosopher Simone Weil. Her complaint was that European political discourse consisted mainly of empty abstractions, of which “capitalism” was among the most prominent. Weil didn’t defend capitalism, but she rightly sensed that the tendency to blame every societal ill on it was a mental deficiency.
