Althouse, come out to LA and you'll get nice sunrises and sunsets, and 70 degree weather.

stevew म्हणाले...

How do we know it is contemplative gazing?

Quite a winter scene, for November. The deep cranberry colored coat is a clever contrast.

Mike (MJB Wolf) म्हणाले...

Cmon that Comey-like pose calls for a more Jack Handy-ish caption than time and place. Just assume people who care about the metadata will look up the metadata.

Behold the nothing that is not there,
And the nothing that is.

I bet there are some very nice, maybe record-setting, and delicious walleye in that lake. And that spot looks like a good one for fishing too. I'm on my way.

I'm in Houston where it's 43 F and rainy. Must be global warming.

How do we know that you weren't actually just sleeping standing up?

Yancey Ward म्हणाले...

I see that Elizabeth Warren has billionaires attacking her this morning for her proposed wealth tax ad. I don't think they understand the political optics of this- they are doing Warren a favor.

Mary Beth म्हणाले...

How do we know you're gazing contemplatively? You might be smiling coyly.

Mike (MJB Wolf) म्हणाले...

No Yancey, Liz is so bad at math she thinks taking 2% doesn’t erode wealth. As if checkbook accounts still paid 5% like the old days. The billionaires sound way more sane than Liarwatha.

Were you contemplating three more moths of cold, snowy Midwest weather?

I am still in shorts and sandals here in Tucson. The high is 80, but next week it gets cold with highs in the upper 60's. Time to break out the flannel shirts.

Mark O म्हणाले...

Are you OK, Ann?

I pity all of us 401K'ers ~5 minutes before Warren is inaugurated. The billionaires will just hide their wealth in other places.

Ryan: I was just in LA. I wouldn't move their unless I was paid big bucks. The weather doesn't compensate for the grief and trouble.

One of my neighbors moved his business from LA to Omaha. He told me yesterday he recalled how it took 30 minutes to drive to a shopping center just 5 miles away. And, of course, the schools are not good.

I'll get my dose of ass freezing in Chicago at Thanksgiving. I grew up there and left once I was 18. No desire to ever go back.

Spent 60 years in LA/OC and no desire to go back to that. Read an obit of one of my classmates today in the LA Times.

Ann Althouse म्हणाले...

“ Were you contemplating three more moths of cold, snowy Midwest weather?”

A great subject for contemplation— moths.

I visualize 6 moths, the 3 more and the others, which I imagine also as a trio.

Ann Althouse म्हणाले...

You just need the right clothes.

It wasn’t too cold 25 degrees.

You might enjoy seeing the artwork of Tomás Saraceno -- I managed to discover him through reading a story about Christie Brinkley's ex's engagement to a much younger woman whose parents are art dealers, and while thinking about if and how I might discuss the realization of the Self as it is described in the Bhagavad-Gita (as opposed to losing the self) and experienced through transcendental meditation. His artwork touches on the topic in a fantastic way.

rcocean म्हणाले...

Yeah if all you care about is weather, LA is great. The great thing about cold is all you have to do is put on more clothes and you're OK. When its too hot, there's not much you can do except go find some air conditioning.

82 in Tucson but don't get caught there in the Summer.

June, July, August and September can be brutal, but you learn to dress and act accordingly. Lots of water and sunscreen, not so much clothing. Althouse would not like it because a lot of men wear shorts six moths (er... months) of the year.

I look forward to Winter because I can wear jeans, flannel shirts and shoes. My stepson (college in Iowa) gets my winter coats.

The problem, Mike, is that Warren knows her primary voters and the base of the Democratic Party. No amount of sanity is going to sway them, and by attacking Warren, she can portray herself as the enemy of Wall Street.

That's what Arizonans tell themselves. That's what outsiders say too. Then they walk outside in July and they realize: It's a hot heat.

Like Winnipeg in January: not for softies.

Mike (MJB Wolf) म्हणाले...

Her base are idiots. You’ll be surprised I guess at how many normal Americans with 401Ks don’t want Warren and her wealth tax and will happily side with the 1% against idiocy like hers. She can bring us all together!

Ann Althouse म्हणाले...

"a dry heat"

That means no filtering, soothing moisture in the air. That's very hard on the skin. Very harsh. I don't see how it saves you from the brutality of the heat, which is a feeling on the skin. The lack of cloud cover and the lack of shade trees all make for a punishing sunlight. Yes, the sweat evaporates quickly, but I would be hiding out in the air conditioning all day out of fear of burning, literally burning my skin (and my retinas).

अनामित म्हणाले...

I lived 30 years in the frozen north with a typical year having a couple of months when the high was between about 30 F and minus 5 F. Everybody had a closet full of clothes so we could all dress for 20 below, which happened every few years.

I have decided I have two favorite temperatures. One is 72 F, summer shirtsleeve weather. The other is 20 F. At 20 degrees there is no slush, the ground is frozen solid so there is no pollen or mold in the air, the sun is often shining brightly, and if you can dress for 20 below it is a piece of cake to dress for 20 above.
