Why I'm laughing out loud 3 seconds after clicking on "This White Wisconsin County Has No Time for Trump."

Here's the Bloomberg article (at Yahoo Finance).

Why I'm laughing and why it took only 3 seconds. I click through with the #1 question, which county? I spotted the name of the county right away:
White voters were the key to Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential victory. Their continued support for him is the main reason he is unlikely to be removed from office by impeachment. They are the foundation of his political support heading into 2020. Unless, of course, they live in Dane County, Wisconsin....
Ha ha ha! Dane County. My county! Well, duh, Madison, Wisconsin loathes Trump. Very funny, Bloomberg.
Dane County does not buy what Trump sells. About four in five residents of the county, which includes the state capital of Madison, are non-Hispanic white. Nationally, according to the U.S. Census, about 60 percent of the population is non-Hispanic white. The electorate in Dane is generally even whiter than the county’s general population. Yet in 2016, Hillary Clinton defeated Trump in Dane County by a margin of three to one.
Yeah, we're overwhelmingly white here, and we vote overwhelmingly for Democrats, over and over. It's a hotbed of liberalism. I'm surprised that Trump got even one in four votes around here. If you lived here, you'd wonder who the hell voted for Trump, not isn't it amazing that even though it's full of white people, Hillary Clinton trounced Trump.

I'm sure they could have chosen Sacramento CA or any other state capital to get the same results. Government employees loathe anyone who thinks they are not doing God's work.

This Cleta Mitchell column explains the threat the impeachment follies pose to the bureaucracy.

In particular, the hearings provide ample grounds to overturn the Supreme Court’s 1984 decision in Chevron U.S.A., Inc. v. National Resources Defense Council, in which the court articulated a principle that federal agency decisions should receive deference in federal litigation because of the “expertise” of the federal agency in matters involving the agency. Known popularly as Chevron deference, it presupposes that the agency and its employees are not only experts, but are philosophically neutral in the discharge of their duties.

What we’ve seen during the Rep. Adam Schiff hearings is that “experts” in federal agencies exhibit bias and political philosophies of their own. They are not neutral.

The impeachment hearings may well bring a reversal of the Chevron decision at the Supreme Court. It would be ironic if the bias of the bureaucrats in those hearings resulted in their castration.

Mike Sylwester म्हणाले...

A better political analysis would explain why the voters in Dane County are more likely to oppose enforcement of our immigration laws than voters in other counties are.

I think that the voters in Dane County enjoy ethnic diversity (e.g. ethnic restaurants and festivals) and do not feel that their own jobs ever will be jeopardized by competition from low-skill immigrants willing to work for low wages.

The many voters in Dane County's education industry also see a huge immigration wave as their own job security in future years.

The voters in the other counties do not perceive that their own job security will be improved by a huge immigration wave.

I think that is an essential difference between the immigration-policy preferences between Dane County and the other counties.

A similar analysis could be done on the issue of exporting American jobs to China. The voters in Dane County have more of a self-interest in a more globalized economy.

An article like this should be accompanied by pictures of the protests against then Gov. Scott Walker. Some perspective and context is necessary. It's unfortunate that the article would be ridiculous were this context added and that the writer pursues it anyway without the context as if all of the readers are completely ignorant of the situation.

Perhaps the writer was still in college at the time and was unaware of world events due to a crippling drug and alcohol problem or his agonizing decision on about to have gender reassignment surgery for himself and his cat, or just for his cat.

Mike Sylwester म्हणाले...

The voters in Dane County generally have political opinions that are more statist. They think that decisions should be made by the state rather than by the free market.

In this regard, the voters in Dane County feel more political affinity to the masses of ignorant peasants invading into the USA from Guatemala, Honduras and other Central American shit-holes.

The voters in Dane County perceive that those illegal aliens eventually will become US citizens and will prefer statist policies, just as the Dane County voters do.

That is an explanation why the voters in Dane County oppose enforcement of our immigration laws more than the voters of other counties do.

There are more Asian-Americans living in Dane County than anywhere else in Wisconsin and about 10,000 more Asian-Americans than African-Americans, and almost the same as the number of Hispanics. Since Madison and Dane County totally disregard these residents in their social policies and pronouncements from on high and in their interviews with Bloomberg, one might think these residents don't vote. But voting in Dane County is almost 80% of eligible voters after you take out Dane County residents under 18, those under parole or supervision and half the foreign-born - if we accept that the returns are accurate. Meaning that Hispanics and Asians are 12% of the electorate in Dane County and are voting. But do Asians want the schools wrecked and do Hispanics want the small businesses they are running legalized, taxed and regulated as they would be in the socialist countries the Hispanics left as economic refugees? Are they really voting? Yet they must be - if we accept that the returns are accurate.

“I stopped waiting and moved to Arizona. The rest of my family still lives in the Chicago area because they didn't

It’s not a Midwest work ethic, but the Hispanics, esp first and second generation are underrated in this regard. They all seem to have real jobs, then side gigs. Gardening, carpentry, body work, painting, house cleaning, etc. All cheap here for that reason.

I learned about Mexican work ethics in maybe 1973 or so. Friends had a brickyard in Boulder, CO (just as liberal, if not worse, than Madison). Took a job there while trying to figure out what to do with my new college degree. Better than half the employees were what we would call illegals these days. They would come up every year, save and send most of it back home to their families in Mexico, then live like kings for the other half year, when the brickyard was closed for the winter. Funny thing was that the two owners were CU grads, and would have preferred hiring college students for the work. But, time after time, the college kids would last maybe a week. The work was just too hard. But you wouldn’t know it, watching the Mexicans. They were always happy. Always talking and joking. My favorite job there was working at the end of the line stacking the wet bricks on carts for drying in the kiln. Normally, you would have to hustle a bit to keep up with the conveyor belt, and the last guy had to make sure none were missed. But the reason that it was great at the end is that a couple guys at the front of the line would decide to race a couple times an hour. They would go for 10-15 minutes or so, stacking essentially all the bricks. I could kick back and have a leisurely cigarette or two, then get back to work when they were done racing. It was hard enough work when 5 of us were working the line, but then two would do the work of five for a bit. It sure made the day go faster. And for them, it was fun.

I think that maybe the difference between the Midwest work ethic is that work is considered an important endeavor. The Mexicans were used to working hard, and made the best of it. Made it enjoyable. My experience though with maybe third generation Mexicans has not been as positive. They still have the mañana lay back attitude, but weren’t brought up having to work hard just to survive.

The new subdivision we live in is probably over half Hispanic, mostly of Mexican descent. Good honest hard working people. Relatively devout Roman Catholic - which my partner likes. Last summer, when we were up in MT for half the year, the young woman next door called to tell us that our garage door was open. She also called the cops, and I walked the officer through the house to make sure everything was ok. She stuck around the entire time. The only downside is that they have the extended family over every couple months, play salsa music, and stay up late partying. It’s a small price to pay for such good neighbors.

Our subdivision here is really good, but the area around the Walmart a quarter mile from here is much less so. You do see some gang bangers, including some who have tats indicating kills. They have a McDonalds there, and I pop by most evenings to pick up coffee for the next day for my partner. That is one of the few things that we really miss in MT - convenient McDonalds coffee. Nearest McDonalds there (Sandpoint) is 80 miles away.

Re: Third generation Mexican Americans

I grew up with several Mexican-American families in Chicago (East Rogers Park). Grandma and Grandpa typically moved from Mexico to Texas and spoke little English. Most had eight grade education and worked manual labor. Moms and Dads graduated HS and moved to Chicago for better work. They typically owned small businesses, had blue collar skills or worked mid-level clerical jobs.

The third generation typically went to college and went on to middle class or better white collar jobs. One friend did not speak any Spanish. My first job at age 14 was with a Mexican-American family printing company. One of my first girlfriends was the daughter of the owner. Her mom owned a beauty salon and she became a model. I would call that living the American Dream.

The college educated Mexican-American kids in my generation were typically liberal Democrats (for a while at least). Their parents voted Republican.

YMMV.

Roughcoat म्हणाले...

At the start of every election cycle the media dutifully trot out stories about how the Latinos are increasingly turning conservative and planning to vote for Republican candidates. But comes election day they always vote in overwhelming numbers for the Democrats and their increasingly radical leftist/statist agenda. Same goes for the blacks and the Jews. Funny how that works. It's almost enough to make a guy like me bitter and cynical, and say things that will get him into trouble with the PC crowd.

Cubans are the exception, God bless 'em. I know several in the Chicago area. Two of them are Marines (one is a sniper, currently deployed), one is a detective with the CPD, one is a mortician, one is a neural surgeon, and one is a registered nurse. They came to America in an open boat, wretchedly impoverished, bumping up on the shore of Key West after a week at sea with two among them dead from exposure. They trust me, so they are not hesitant to express their hatred of all leftist ideologies and their disdain for all other Latinos (but Mexicans and Puerto Ricans in particular).

Super white Portland, OR also went firmly for Clinton, surprising literally nobody who doesn't work in NYC pretending to do political analysis?

My wife is 3rd generation AMERICAN of Mexican descent, she has always voted Republican. Family members (on her side) living in SoCal and AZ are probably evenly split, but they don’t much like illegal immigrants, to put it lightly.

Republicans seem to have trouble accepting reality when it comes to minorities Ike lost the Black vote 60-40 in 1956, and that was the HIGH POINT of Black support for the R President. Since 1932, African Americans have voted in overwhelming numbers for the D's, usually 75-25 or 80-20.

No R Presidential Candidate since Hoover (1928) has gotten a majority of the Jewish vote. That despite their support for Israel and the Jewish high income.

No R Presidential Candidate has gotten more than 35% of the Hispanic Vote since 1964.

The Asian Vote since 1980 has ALWAYS been majority D.

rcocean म्हणाले...

Let in enough non-whites and the D will have a permanent majority. Just like they do in NYC and Calf. That's it -case closed. Do you realize how many people cast ballots in foreign language? Its over 10 million.

Nobody loved Amnesty, open borders, and Hispanics more than Johnny McCain. And he got 35% of their vote in 2008. And that includes Cubans. Bush II said his proudest moment was getting more black votes in Texas than any other R Governor. And guess what? He LOST The Black vote 70-30! And in 2000, when he ran for POTUS, he got 15% of the black vote.

Just face reality.

But rc, let me tell you about the admirable immigrants I grew up with and the lazy entitled white kids I know.** Don't ask me to think any more seriously about immigration than heart-warming personal anecdotes and conventional "conservative" wisdom c. 1995. (Oh, yeah, forgot, "conventional 'conservative' wisdom c. 1995" *is* pretty much all heart-warming anecdotes, wishful thinking, and rationalizations for my importing cheaper labor, legal and illegal.)

**I can do both, but don't consider that either constitutes a serious, thought-out response to the issue.

The majority of Dane County voters who voted for Clinton just show how braindead they are voting for an avaricious, grasping, prevaricating, soul-less woman, and a faux feminist who road her "husband's" coattails to power while destroying his victims. The folks in Dane County may be credentialled, but they are idiots.

It's NEVER been a requirement. The only immigrants that have to jump those old hoops
were the documented immigrants.
undocumented immigrants don't need english... neither do their CITIZEN children

A little dip into the Jewish question for you, or see. My family came over from Russia (actually as it happens Ukraine though they never considered themselves Ukrainian or Ukrainian Jews) in 1920-21, fleeing the Whites, the Reds, and the Cossacks. We're commie-haters. Mostly.

Vindman's family was fine and dandy with the commies. Or am I thinking of Yovanovich? In any case, if you didn't flee the commies but only fled the Nazis, your taste is a lot more questionable.

And if you STAYED FOR THE NAZIS, but only left in the 70s like Vindman and family...

WTF were you thinking?!?
