It is actually difficult to pick out the most unhinged part of Trump’s “Fox & Friends” rant. The part about his picture not being hung in the U.S. Embassy in Ukrainian? His doubting the testimony about a phone conversation with Gordon Sondland after Sondland said he had no reason to doubt the testimony? The repetition of his false claim that the whistleblower complaint was not accurate? The blandly inarticulated claim that his campaign had been “wiretapped” in 2016? (Trump defenders; tell us where Trump has ever specified this claim. Not your own conspiracy theories, but rather a specification by Trump.)
My personal favorite was this exchange with a clearly astonished/horrified/mystified Steve Doocy:
They have the server from the DNC, Democratic National Committee,” an unhinged Trump yelled. “The FBI went in and they told them, ‘Get out of here! We’re not giving it to you.’ They gave the server to CrowdStrike or whatever it is called, which is a company owned by a very wealthy Ukrainian. And I still want to see that server. We have just been through, 60+? hours of Democrat theater having witnesses connect dots that are only infered from 2cnd and 3rd party never Trumpers interpret what 6 previous conversations meant, not what the actual words conveyed. The charge is President Trump demanded Ukraine President to dig up dirt on Joe Biden, even though Joe Biden has constutionally enumerated protection from investigation because he has filed papers to run for election to the office of President. The words conveyed no such meaning. Nor is an investigation outside to Article II powers.

There has never been anyone quite like this in US politics, or politics anywhere really. Some have approached this directness and spontaneity in speaking to the world, but not to this degree. This is not just because of his unique personality but because he is ahead of the curve in realizing the flexibility of modern communication systems.

I really don’t see a political argument for impeaching Trump. Doing so would mean a Senate trial, where the GOP will indulge every Trump request for airing favorable evidence and testimony, all designed to make the Democrats look bad. It’s all political theater and everyone knows it. The Democrats know there’s zero chance of removing Trump, so they’re using (abusing) their constitutional powers, and spending taxpayer money, to try to influence the 2020 election. He was recycling old loops that I've heard before in rallies and he was doing it while talking at 3 human beings who need to try to look like journalists. Their passivity and thwarted efforts to break in while he filibustered was not spontaneity. It was some mix of a drive to domineer, a fear of stopping to look at any one thing with anything like a critical eye, and a delight in getting into a groove and running with it. It was not conversational and though it wasn't the stiffest thing in the world, it was stilted and phony in its own special Trumpish way.
He had to be looking at the TV image too, so he could see how awkward it looked. If he's such a capable showman, then why didn't he go back and forth and let them have some of the energy? Were we supposed to be entertained by their ineffectuality? I don't think that was his intent.
Sometimes all it takes to achieve a measure of greatness is to understand when old constraints no longer apply, and simply ignore them. Everyone else will follow, sooner or later, but being first is an advantage.
Many systems and "traditions" are established mainly to manage limits, of span of control, of communications, of transport, of logistics, of general complication. One might assume that one needs a large staff, say, to conduct a national political campaign, full of legions of paid specialists in this or that, with planning by committee with extended lead times for any actions.
But maybe not.

Like many here I suspect I am part of the ultimate audience for the current quasi Impeachment drama. Independent voter. Wisconsinite. So here's a few musings.
1. Unless there really is something more to come, perhaps some 11th hour...er...bombshell? Then this all reeks of desperation on the part of our progressive friends. Impeachment based on doings in the Ukraine will end up nuking the Biden candidacy. They must know this. And who else in the current field of candidates has a better chance to beat Trump?
2. This is a one shot weapon. One that takes a generation to reload. Unless you manage to remove Trump from office in early 2020 there is zero chance they can, politically of course, try again in the presumptive Trump second term. They will have wasted - by shamelessly abusing - a valuable Constitutional safeguard. It would likely embolden Trump to be even more over the top after 2020.
3. Does anyone really imagine that there is not already in place a phase two plan to impeach Pence? I mean, really what's the point otherwise. Many people would be OK with Trump exiting the scene. I feel that way some days. But an intelligence community that launches a decapitation strike on an entire elected government? Oh, non lethal but still a coup. That pushes us close to the brink.
4. And off topic, along the lines a Holmesian dog that didn't bark, I am no longer encountering any Democrat outreach/ads directed towards Hispanic voters. Has the vaunted "focus group" - I s'pect they meet in the secure space when Schiff is not using it - declared this a write off? If so, then the whiff of desperation emanating from all this becomes positively Swalwellian...
Impeachment and removal or even application of tar and 2020 defeat may be ridiculous long shots. But perhaps....the only shot they have. It would explain much.

When you speak to a crowd you need to be big on stage and do a presentation. You need a lot of material and he's great at making that stuff flow in a way that feels spontaneous in that environment and is genuinely engaging with the crowd. When you're doing an interview, you should listen to the questions and give the impression of responding (even if you want to control the discourse). He left the 3 interviewers sitting there passively and obviously uncomfortable, because they were not in the position of a rallygoer. He was purporting to give an interview, but he adopted a rally approach to speaking. I don't think he deserves adulation for spontaneity under those circumstances.

That said, I agree with Althouse that Trump wasn’t effective in this Fake TV Interview. Don’t think the viewers have the attention span or interest to follow along in a Fake Phone Interview. If I have to vote for open commenting with Squeamish or moderated commenting without s/he/it (and a couple of the others) I reluctantly vote for moderation.
There are some others who are almost as batshit nutso and I would prefer if they could wander off and take their crazy elsewhere. I can live with them though because they tend not to be as prolific as Squeamish. It's the downright volume that makes Squeamish especially objectionable.

I just read Don Surber reporting that Prince Andrew had been kicked out of his mom's basement. I had known he had basically been fired from all royal duties and incomes.
