"The decision announced by Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit was the first of its kind against a serving Israeli prime minister and represented Netanyahu's gravest crisis of his lengthy political career. He was charged with breach of trust and fraud in all three corruption cases against him, as well as bribery in one of the investigations, according to a charge sheet released by the Justice Ministry.... He is under no legal obligation to resign after being charged. The opening of a trial could be delayed for months by a new election and any moves by the right-wing prime minister to seek parliamentary immunity from prosecution."
Reuters reports.

Schiff is envious of that expansive interpretation of bribery.
Netanyahu has been around a long time, and made a lot of enemies both foreign and domestic. This is quite likely a case of "Show me the man and I'll find you the crime."
I have almost no clue about the goings on of Israeli politics, but from an outsider perspective I am very happy that it is impossible for a sitting president in the US to be secretly indicted in a grand jury and then for the charges to be announced by some other government official who may or may not be political enemies of the president. The amount of political turmoil and mistrust in 'the other side' this must cause is immense.
Seems like Israel has picked up the habit of the USA.
If you can't beat them, indict them!
this means Trump HAS TO resign, right?
I mean
it's a BOMBSHELL! and The Walls Are Closing In!
In my ideal world offering bribe will be legal - open and standing offer.
I want to bait and trap : who is going to accept!? Will be litmus test for office holding suitable!?

Friends who follow Israeli domestic politics much closer than I have made the same point. They basically say it's a politically-driven manhunt.
Netanyahu was accused to trying to get better publicity for his government, which is obviously against the law.
Meanwhile Michael Oren may enter the fray as a middle way PM.
Of course it is politics, but not comparable to the United States. Israel chose a parliamentary system with a very "democratic" voting setup making for a crazy-quilt of political parties, almost one for every shade of political and/or religious affiliation and wild horsetrading to form a governing coalition after every election.
Ariel Sharon admits to some rather unconventional financial arrangements in his autobiography, "Warrior," and I think Netanyahu has followed in his footsteps in that respect. As with Sharon, there has been a constant background noise in the media about shady dealings involving the prime minister and his sons. It is not a new thing.
so basically, it's now a felony, in ALL countries; not to have a majority in your house?
Carolyn glick described this version of lawfare, by which any support of center right opinion, is crime think
If Schiff frees up soon maybe he can prosecute the Bibi case as well.

In Israel, and throughout the free world, all politicians and all media organs maintain ties with one another as a matter of course. If Mandelblit accepts State Prosecutor’s position and indicts Netanyahu, practically speaking, he will render all politicians and media outlets in Israel hostage to state prosecutors. At their pleasure, the prosecutors can criminalize their routine practice of politics and journalism. They can investigate anyone, at any time. They can destroy reputations, squeeze politicians and media outlets financially by saddling them with legal fees, and even send them to prison.
Sound familiar? Obergruppenfuhrer Mueller is a nice example.
Normally I would be on his side but since ninety-nine percent of the people conducting the impeachment trial are Jewish I'm like meh, I don't care about you anymore
yes he's Yiddish for mueller, and Ronnie earle and john Chisholm,
they've tried variations on this with Berlusconi, who was another unconventional center right politician, it took 20 years to get him on a technicality, which was reversed on appeal,
The war between the people and the oligarchs on another front.
You could make this charge against any leader in any country.
It just happens to be Netanyahu who gets charged.
Achilles: "The war between the people and the oligarchs on another front."
Indeed.
The lefties in Britain claimed Putin made the Brexit vote happen, is interfering in the general election campaign and that Putin has been grooming Boris Johnson as an agent for years and years now and that Putin clearly has kompromat on Johnson.
Christopher Steele himself (yes, THAT Christopher Steele) created, and I'm not kidding you about this, ANOTHER "dossier" "documenting" all of this.
Proving conclusively that the lefties and LLR-lefties across the entire globe are all now operating off the exact same playbook.
Once Boris Johnson wins the election in December I fully expect there to be a rash of corruption charges lodged against him along with lawsuits galore against him personally.
The "elites"/lefties in the West have declared open warfare upon their own populations and opposition candidates.
Global FusionGPS/Lawfare against non-lefties.
Apparently if you’re a pol on the right, if you do something that benefits anyone, and you get a political benefit from that, it becomes a “bribe.”
that's largely right, but they don't seem to be concerned about a practicing Trotskyite, fan of hamas now, and the ira and the plo then,
wasn't that the Koch narrative against walker, then it became the Abramson (sic) against Gingrich and trump.
Every time in the past ten years that Bibi has been in an election - every time - some left-wing pol or government drone has filed "charges" against him, and those charges are trumpeted around until the election is over.
We simply don't beat up weenies enough anymore.
