Actually, the stereotypical "French face" features are northern French, and my heritage is all southern (Provencal on grand-pere's side, Corsican on grand-mere's). People don't think I "look French" and if you put me in the Loire Valley, that's true. You drop me in Nice or Marseille & I fit right in.
And, yes, I wince if I have to order a croy-sant. Ouch! Ouch! Ouch!
