And remember the Althouse Portal to Amazon.

The photo was taken at 7:03 this morning. The actual sunrise time was 7:08.

If we assume that China has always been Trump’s main target then I think we have to see N Korea as a sideshow designed to distract the Chinese. Kim fires more missiles to signal he wants some attention and gets none. Xi is on the wrong foot with Trump and it shows. Hong Kong fell into Trump’s lap like a honey fall.

Contrast Trump supporting Hong Kong with Obama’s failure to support the Iranians.

Happy Thanksgiving All!

And thanks, just for being here.

Original Mike म्हणाले...

Hope everyone had a pleasant Thanksgiving. I had a good time teaching my granddaughter subtraction (which is still a works-in-progress).

BUMBLE BEE म्हणाले...

I'm thankful to be here, and especially for Trump, a guy who knows what it means to lead. I'm so glad I'm livin in the USA!

Josephbleau म्हणाले...

Ha O Mike, I remember being taught that subtraction was why the natural numbers were a failure, a stern lesson for a kid. Hope your thanksgiving was good also.

JackWayne म्हणाले...

How are you teaching subtraction? As straight-out subtraction or as “upward” or “reverse” addition? I taught mine to add up: if the problem is 7-3, what does she have to add to 3 to get 7?

Original Mike म्हणाले...

JB: I hinted at negative numbers at the end of our session ("ya know how we can't subtract a larger number from a smaller one? Well, you actually can ...")

Original Mike म्हणाले...

Jack: Yes, we went over that. Her best progress tonight was in learning how to check her answer by addition. She enjoyed that.

JackWayne म्हणाले...

If a kid learns to subtract by adding, there are 2 advantages: they don’t need to learn 4 math tables, just 3. And they don’t need to check their work at the end except as a cursory inspection if there’s time. I rejected the way I was taught to subtract right from the start. Didn’t make sense to me. So 93-27 becomes 6+7 is 13 so carry the one to the 2. 2+1+6 is 9. Answer is 66. Done.

Redstate has pictures of people waving American flags during thank you America celebrations. There is one picture of a banner showing Trump astride a tank, AK in hand, shells bursting in the background, coming to their rescue. Striking picture, but strangely weird. The God Emperor.

Chinese policy towards Hong Kong must be making its neighbors nervous. If Trump can keep Hong Kong independent and within the American sphere it would be a financial blow to China.

narciso म्हणाले...

Yes xinjiang is easy to suppress because out near some central asia statelet, but hong kong is a big deal.

Birkel म्हणाले...

Disagree slightly, pacwest.
If Trump keeps Hong Kong in the Western Sphere, it may be the only things to save China.

pacwest,
China is inherently unstable because it is a command economy. There has never been a command economy that can persist over any substantial period - unless it is allowed to pillage other nations. Command economies cannot be efficient. The number of calculations required is nearly infinite because they change instantaneously.

Hong Kong is the part of the Chinese economy that provides ballast to the wobbly ship of state.

Remove HK and the ability to pillage, and China inverts, economically.

My lovely wife and I went to the Shaw's Crab House (Chicago) Thanksgiving Buffet today. I had dozens of oysters and tenderloin, and turkey, and shrimp, and all the pies, great for 90 bucks, make your res early for next year. ( they make a profit on the wine.) Oysters increase your lifespan, and/or your DNA preservation.

Michael K म्हणाले...

I tend to agree with Birkel. Hong Kong is an economic powerhouse for China and a window on the west.

China risks a lot if they crush Hong Kong, much more than Tianenmen Square.

Hong Kong is the golden goose of China. It is a pampered goose [that other system + some democracy] and the CCP worries that the other geese might get ideas. The CCP would probably like to loot, er, rape the golden goose but not quite kill it. Very problematic how the other geese and the rest of the world might react.

One of the most powerful scenes in movies was just on --

"Fredo, you're nothing to me now . . ."

And, again, did you notice the oranges throughout the film?

Mark म्हणाले...

Sometimes Thanksgivings is a happy time. Sometimes it is a bad time and you want to say, "What the hell is there to be thankful for?"

But did you know when it was first a national holiday? True, Washington had proclaimed a day of giving thanks before. But it was Lincoln in the middle of the Civil War. In the middle of the hell that was the worst time of this nation's history, Thanksgiving was proclaimed.

Even in the worst of times in our personal lives, still there are blessings in our lives and it is right and just to give thanks to God for them.

The American flags flown in Hong Kong may be by provocateurs for homeland Chinese consumption trying to present the revolt in Hong Kong as a CIA operation and treasonous to China.
But I think it is homegrown and the Hong Kongers wish to remain Chinese, but Hong Kong Chinese.
They have been something special for 180 years, and it has worked out well for them.
And everyone else for that matter, and especially the mainland.

Not bad, thanks for asking. First Thanksgiving after losing our son was tough. There was a hole that will never be filled. But the rest of the family was here, and no reason not to be thankful for that.

As to the cancer, they caught it early, so , while I'm sure it is progressing, it is slow-moving. I have no symptoms yet, and have not started treatment. So it just kind of hangs over everything, but has not caused any changes, except in my perspective.

Make the best of your life. Make the best of your time with family. Let go of the useless, petty crap.

I hope you all had a Happy Thanksgiving. My mother and my aunt lured me into a political discussion which was basically them spouting everything television news has told them. I bet they don't even know what the word "emoluments" means. On the other hand, my daughter introduced me to a band called The Hu. Mongolian heavy metal throat singing.

A very interesting sidelight on the FBI anti-Trump campaign.

It seems Peter Strzok and his wife (Who is an SEC officer) ran an operation, using the CEO of Overstock and a Russian woman with links to oligarchs, against the Trump campaign and Durham is interested in it.

Byrne was offered a "bribe" to cooperate, which may have been an SEC investigation run by Strzok's wife. All of DC has these incestuous relationships.

This is the problem with a Senate "trial." The LIVs will get half the message.

Very nice Thanksgiving yesterday with our son in laws hard left Trump hating family. Without saying it, seems like everyone decided family was more important than politics.

Maybe the new granddaughter had something to do with it.

Something else to be thankful for.
