Why did Trump just tweet "Something very big has just happened!"?

Kind of disturbing actually...

Trump exaggerates. He's full of salesman puffery. "very Big" = yeah, it might be important. If he was to tweet "This is the most important thing in the history of the world", then, that would be "Very Big".

Remember: Trump millions = everyone else's thousands. Part of his charm.

Everyone:

To be clear, the next POTUS will be Liz Warren. There really is no another scenario for anyone to be POTUS. As a top political advisor, I say this will 100% confidence.

The next VPOTUS could be one of these: Castro, Klobuchar, Booker, or one of governors who quit (from CO, WA, or MT).

Trump will go down in all 50 states. His defeat will save him from impeachment.

Cheers,
Raj

My guess is that the Chinese have just agreed to a trade “deal” that does almost nothing to fundamentally change our relationship. China never felt any need to make much of a change in its behavior with the west now so disunited in the Trump era. And that Trump knows how important it will be for him to sell the nothing deal as something very big.

Dr Weevil म्हणाले...

Some Ace of Spades commentators say that Twitter reports that Al-Baghdadi, head of ISIS, has been captured. That would certainly be big news. No one I follow on Twitter has mentioned it yet, but I use my real name there and follow mostly non-political tweeters.

Oh, it gets better than that!!

Russia, a nation with the GDP of Italy(!), is complaining that they have assumed additional duties in Syria while the US troops have redeployed to protect/defend the oil field assets!!

LOL

Russia expending more capital than their small economy can afford while losing out on oil protection revenues!!

Islamists, Russia, Assad, democrats, lefties, LLR's and Ken B hardest hit.

Cant wait to read our resident morons lecture us in why having the broke russkis spending more and more with increased risk while the US lowers its risk but increases its leverage over syrian oil fields is a bad thing!!

Insty is reporting that al-Baghdadi is either dead or has been captured after Spec Ops raid.

Lydia म्हणाले...

At Newsweek -- Trump Approves Special Ops Raid Targeting ISIS Leader Baghdadi, Military Says He's Dead:

The United States military has conducted a special operations raid targeting one of its most high-value targets, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of the Islamic State militant group (ISIS), Newsweek has learned. President Donald Trump approved the mission nearly a week before it took place.

Amid reports Saturday of U.S. military helicopters over Syria's northwestern Idlib province, a senior Pentagon official familiar with the operation and Army official briefed on the matter told Newsweek that Baghdadi was the target of the top-secret operation in the last bastion of the country's Islamist-dominated opposition, a faction that has clashed with ISIS in recent years. A U.S. Army official briefed on the results of the operation told Newsweek that Baghdadi was killed in the raid. And the Defense Department told the White House they have "high confidence" that the high-value target killed was Baghdadi, but further verification is pending.

Members of a team from the Joint Special Operations Command carried out Saturday's high-level operation after receiving actionable intelligence, according to sources familiar with the operation. The location raided by special operations troops had been under surveillance for some time.

On Saturday night, after the operation had concluded, President Trump tweeted: "Something very big has just happened!" The White House announced later that the president will make a "major statement" Sunday at 9:00 a.m.

My name goes here. म्हणाले...

This is my first of two comments.
In the "old" days an important announcement would be learned and then shared with favored journalists who would then tell all of the other journolists and they would get to be all smug and righteous when they, the favored few, would break the news about this developing story. They would lie to the audience that they are learning about this just now and they are sharing what they learn, then have 3 lined up "analysts" that already know the softball questions to expect to knit the narrative.

As long as Trump is president, it appears that those days are gone. Who did he tell first? Us. Tomorrow when the press carries whatever Trump's announcement is, they will be learning about it for the first time.

I like this. It pulls the Presidency into the 21st century.

My name goes here. म्हणाले...

Second comment.

We can moneyball this if we want. The Tweet was from 923pm Saturday night.

I voted for Trump but even I know he can defy prediction. Nonetheless, here I go.
If I assume that Trump is too smart to upset the applecart of an ongoing investigation then the "big" thing is not about the Barr/Durham investigation nor is it about the Barr/Horowitz IG report. That leaves foreign affairs. The three big issues are Mideast peace (it's not this one), North Korea, and the Trade deal with China. (does anyone have another big foreign issue?)

The most plausible issue is an agreement with the Chinese about trade.

Anyway, that's my guess. Posted at 1204am Sunday morning.

Ken B म्हणाले...

I am really curious Birkel why you think it is unimportant that ISIS prisoners escaped. Clearly from your comment at 9:52 you do. It is evident that your logic isn’t good — because anyone can see it would be better to have have Baghdadi dead and these terrorists in custody than Baghdadi dead and them free — but even I am a little surprised you think so little of the American lives that might be lost to these escaped killers. I think that is shameful.

I will quote your comment here before it gets memory holed

Birkel म्हणाले...

Never a memory hole from me. Pay attention.

You missed the point, which was your Wild Ass speculation.
You have no idea how the intelligence was gathered to plan this assault.
Kurdish military assets were reportedly involved in locating al-Baghdadi.
Apparently we still have operational support from the Kurds.
I guess they didn't feel as abandoned as you (hoped?) alleged.
And the loss of prisoners was exaggerated, according to other reporting.

But it is pretty awesome that you have a Heads I win, Tails you lose coin in your pocket.

Now you can address the point about costs raised by Drago above.

Ken B म्हणाले...

Birkel
You basically said “sure the prisoners escaped but Trump got Baghdadi, neener neener.” Of course it’s great that Trump got Baghdadi, but it was still a bad thing that the ISIS killers escaped. By your logic, Obama screwing up Iraq is unimportant because he got bin Laden, neener neener. You let your petty partisan bile overwhelm any sense of decency and concern for innocent American lives.
