"Mark Sanford kicked off his presidential campaign against Donald Trump in Philly. One person showed up."

Headline at The Philadelphia Inquirer. The reporter was the only person.
“Nobody knows me in Philadelphia. I get it,” Sanford said. “I think in life we all do what we can do, what’s within our power to have an effect. So we’re just sort of moving along as we go along.”
ADDED: This made me think of Pat Paulson.

"The reporter was the only person."

Mark Sanford, like all dems and NeverTrumper hoax-conservatives, know perfectly well who their base voters with the most clout happen to be: the media.

Please clap.

Bay Area Guy म्हणाले...

Sanford & Son was a good show in the 70s. It was about a black junkyard dealer in Compton, played by Redd Foxx. The fictional Sanford from 40 years ago has more political relevance than this bozo.

Time for a hike to Argentina!

For this He belongs on Mount Rushmore -

I mean the Reporter for his dedication to his profession.

vanderleun म्हणाले...

Doesn't he have money? He's going to need it.

The Cracker Emcee Refulgent म्हणाले...

And yet they reported it. Yeah, that's some serious journalism.

Mike Sylwester म्हणाले...

I read the book Staying True, written by his wife Jenny Sanford.

He must have a personality disorder.

Read this: 7 Brutal Passages About Mark Sanford From His Ex-Wife's Book

Here's the main points:

1. Buying her a $25 used bike as a half-birthday, half-Christmas present and delivering it months later.

2. Telling her he didn't want to include a vow to be faithful in his wedding vows.

3. Forgetting her birthday (Sept. 11) and needing to be reminded by his staff until 2001.

4. Refusing to go with her to childbirth classes.

5. Asking her for advice on how to deal with his extramarital affairs in interviews.

6. Arranging a nice scavenger hunt for a gift when he couldn't be there for her birthday, then returning it when he saw the gift and didn't like it.

7. Not picking her up at the airport early in their relationship and leaving a car for her to drive to his family farm. Then ditching her for a party.

To be fair to Mark Sanford supporters, they all thought the kickoff was going to be along the Appalachian trail or somewhere in Argentina.

Infinite Monkeys म्हणाले...

How could Philadelphia not know who he is? The Appalachian Trail runs right through the state. I hear he's really big into hiking it.

Michael K म्हणाले...

Didn't his Argentine mistress even show up?

Beasts of England म्हणाले...

Y’all are looking at it the wrong way. When two people show up at his next event, he can claim that momentum is on his side!!

traditionalguy म्हणाले...

Mark is probably used to a rally that has the about the same attendance as his Episcopal Church back home where he is part of the laity looking to get laid since someone told him politics makes strange bedfellows. What other reason could get him to Philadelphia.

Clyde म्हणाले...

His appeal has gone from "becoming more selective" to nonexistent. The Philadelphia gig has been cancelled. I wouldn't worry about it, though. It's not a big political town.

Two-eyed Jack म्हणाले...

Ordinarily, one would expect at least his wife to show up, but in this case. . . .

PM म्हणाले...

"Follow-up question?"

Nichevo म्हणाले...

What could be his incentives to expose himself to the inevitable humiliation, which will continue and increase? If he has money, that's probably not the answer.

Next headline from the day before the Iowa Caucuses:

"Sanford Doubles Campaign Turnout in Scintillating Challenge to Incumbent President."

Yancey Ward म्हणाले...

Well, crap. Beasts beat me to it!

Yancey Ward म्हणाले...

I eagerly await ARM's quoting of the The Bulwark's endorsement of Sanford's bid to unseat Trump.

WisRich म्हणाले...

They had tell the truth because they couldn't take their normal tight shot pictures of a dozen people to make it look like hundreds.

Bob Smith म्हणाले...

I’ll go to see him if the Argentine Firecracker shows up. She is super hot.

Yancey Ward म्हणाले...

WisRich is correct- the Hillary method of photographing a campaign stop doesn't work- you have to actually use Photoshop to fix Sanford's problem.

rcocean म्हणाले...

Sanford behaves like such a loon, I have no idea why anyone takes him seriously. Its not that he cheated on his wife, its that he went AWOL while Governor for about a week. People thought he was missing - maybe injured or dead. You don't just do that as Governor.

And when he lost his House seat primary in 2018, he refused to support his opponent and helped the D's win the seat. He's a complete egotistical weirdo. The run against Trump is probably being financed by some Democrat Billionaire.

Bay Area Guy म्हणाले...

For some reason, when I think of Mark Sanford running against the Trump for the GOP nomination, I think of the Washington Generals playing a real hard defense against the Harlem Globetrotters.

rehajm म्हणाले...

One skill of a good politician is knowing which way the wind is blowing when you stick your peepee into it.

Rabel म्हणाले...

Wrong. The "one person" was Bill Quinn, a 63-year-old retired lawyer from Center City, not the reporter.

In 2018, Maria Belen Chapur went public with criticism against President Donald Trump. In an article on that dust up, the Post and Courier referred to her as Mark Sanford’s ex. Sanford had lost a primary for Congress, and Trump said of Sanford’s primary opponent, “And she beat a man that likes flamingo dancers from Argentina.”

Chapur responded on Facebook: “President Trump, with all respect Flamingo (sic) is a Spanish dance, Spain is situated geographically in the European continent (just in case you ignore it)…Tango is the Argentinian dance ….though for sure you don’t care at all.”

Paulsen is hilarious. He certainly had some events of "just one person." Prescient: Let's avoid the views of extremists: either pull our troops out of Vietnam immediately, or escalate and go into North Vietnam. Instead let's continue doing what we have been: just messing around. The Syria debate echoes the Vietnam debate. Was there a noble group, fighting for its own freedom, who had been allies? How about the Montagnards?

I once shook hands with Sen. Proxmire of our host's adopted state. I was moving from Canada to Minnesota, others in this bar in LaCrosse were from Iowa, etc. No Badgers here? asked the Senator, meaning of course: no Wisconsin voters? He seemed to be campaigning pretty hard, but a short time later he announced he wasn't running.

This is Beto in two years.

gilbar म्हणाले...

ummm
if the Only person that showed up; was a media dude... That means NO ONE showed up

This is like when Hilary Rodham Clinton-Rodham drove around iowa in her Scooby van
There were USUALLY as many (or, twice as many) media dudes and dudesses there as there were real iowan voters.

If this had been reported, Maybe the demos would have woke up; but NO!

Lloyd W. Robertson म्हणाले...

Paulsen again: someone with no experience other than in entertainment can run for high office, at least in California. Of course anticipates Reagan, Schwarzenegger, Jesse Ventura, Trump. Deliberately vague on issues, appealing to independents. Remember the famous third party candidates? Ross Perot, John B. Anderson?

Nichevo म्हणाले...

"Tango is the Argentinian dance ….though for sure you don’t care at all.”

You got that right, sugar tits.

Kevin म्हणाले...

Sanford running as "Nobody for President".

He certainly qualifies.

Kevin म्हणाले...

The only thing more fitting is if he'd announced from South America.

Nichevo म्हणाले...

PS. Also, sweetcakes, every time you open your cockholster you're sticking the knife another inch into your boyfriend's ribcage. Keep it up!

rcocean म्हणाले...

Lets see: A man who resigned a Governorship in disgrace, was a national laughingstock because he thought with his dick, and lost a primary to a complete nobody is now running for President. Nobody would vote for Sanford is Trump wasn't running.

The same is true of Weld. The guy is weirdly similar to Sanford. An obscure Governor, who resigned office, and then tried to make a comeback and failed. Like Sandord who refused to endorse his R opponent, Weld ran as a Libertarian and has spend his entire life criticizes other R's. Why would anyone vote for him, even if Trump wasn't running?

walter म्हणाले...

The one person showed up just to see what sort of idiots would attend.

~ Gordon Pasha म्हणाले...

A saw Paul Paulson accept the nomination in the LA Coliseum in 1968. It was the half-time of the UCLA/USC game. Fun times

DeepRunner म्हणाले...

Two thoughts...

1. Imagine being the reporter at the moment of being given the assignment to attend the "kick-off." So many news stories, and I get assigned this.

2. The reporter was NOT there to cover the story but had stopped to ask Sanford for directions
