Stillness. I like it.

Photography is good at conveying stillness. Motion, too.

Once again, Althouse throws dripping red meat to her commentariat. No wonder moderation is enabled.

Well, off now. Turning off wifi.
On the road (or the skies, or the oceans)
I don't know when I will post here again.
At some point I suppose.
I become a bore after a while anyway.

Good luck to everyone.

I spent a couple of enjoyable weeks in Wisconsin on my summer driveabout. Thank you, Wisconsinites, for your hospitality and for sharing your lovely state. Lots of water scenes there, like the one posted by Our Hostess. Peaceful and - most importantly - cool. Back home now, where it's STILL over 100 degrees. I guess I shoulda stayed another month.

Very Rothko.

Now that's what I call serene. Looks like a chilly morning with a likelihood of remaining overcast at least until early afternoon.

I like how the gray water makes the blue patch in the sky vibrate

🎶If not for you
Babe, the night would see me wide awake
The day would surely have to break
It would not be new, if not for you🎶

Seemingly, but it gets at my core complaint against red-light cameras. Much has been made of the denial of the right to face your accuser, which is a serious issue. But there's another issue that bugs me--they are using a still photo to prove a moving violation.

Seems things are catching up with Shaun King.

On Shaun King.

It's written by DeRay McKeeson, but still, people are talking.

Test--my efforts yesterday were aborted along the way.

like a Whistler "Nocturne"--
throw in a few golden lights on the horizon and their muted, shimmering reflections...

Did my comment get rejected? Insert shocked emoji here.

I simply quoted Groundhog Day.

"You want a prediction about the weather, you're asking the wrong Phil. I'll give you a winter prediction: It's gonna be cold, it's gonna be grey, and it's gonna last you for the rest of your life."

Looks like November.

Bon voyage, Mr. Crocodile. Your contributions will be missed.

I have a suspicion that those of us who can't tell light blue from gray may be missing something here.

Photography is a neutral medium, a technology, essentially. It can be as misleading as its user wants it to be. Or as revealing-- of the photographer, or of the subject.

You can take it from there.

Early in my work in photography, an experienced professional advised us in the workshop to "tell the truth, and respect the subject".

Like many simple truths, easier said than done.

By and by I have begun to suspect that Our Hostess may have gone to another Play, without consulting us first.

Just Her way of letting us know where we stand.

So be it.

Sooner rather than later I hope, learned friend.

While we have sometimes disagreed, I have enjoyed the high level to-ing and fro-ing of your thoughtful comments, which I have never found tiresome.

I do think that you may owe me a response to my alternative theory that it is "flocking behavior", rather than an international conspiracy, that leads to the mindless sameness of the media/educational/government establishment propaganda in this country. (OK, we're all entitled to our hobby-horses, at this age.)

If I missed your earlier response to this objection, please direct me to it, and I will let you know my thoughts.

Keep well and carry on.
