"I feel like I’ve contributed all I can to this primary campaign, and it’s clearly not my time."

Says Bill De Blasio, quoted in "Bill de Blasio Drops Out of Democratic Presidential Contest/Mr. de Blasio, the New York City mayor whose campaign was seen as a long shot and often described as quixotic, never gained traction." (NYT).

His candidacy never made any sense at all. The only thing I could ever come up with is that he was the tallest, and tall guys have an advantage. Other than that — nothing.

ADDED: Trump has fun with it:

The plus side was that he was a cisgendered white male, and you didn't have to be apologetic or circumspect in your criticism of him.....He's utterly charmless. He did make you appreciate the other candidates. They'll be sorry to see him go.

Back to wrecking the NY city school system. He and his uber-racist schools chancellor are determined to squeeze every last drop of excellence out of the schools before they depart. Some New Yorkers already know what they are losing; others don't much seem to care.

I was one of the few Americans to attend one of his campaign events. It was in a Sioux City, Iowa bar/restaurant. He was talking to a small group and about 15 feet away a table of 10 was just going on like he wasn't even there. The funny thing was that about four people drove all the way from NYC to complain about their public housing. "Fix my front door" one lady said.

And, yes, Bill is tall; maybe 6 foot six inches. His wife is maybe five foot. I have a picture with them.

He was a veteran Marxist killer supporter from his Nicaraguan Ortega days. That gave him a legacy status in the Neo-Communist ( formerly Democrat) Party.

I often wonder who the money guys are behind the decision to run and what grand visions they are planting in the candidates head about how great they will be when they win?

Then reality sets in, the money disappears, and candidates are left to ponder their failure (or maybe not since self-awareness doesn't seem to be s strength in politics).

Oh well, back to making money and convincing large corporations they are not welcome in NYC.

His campaign made sense if you are a New Yorker that thinks the only way to beat a New Yorker is another New Yorker, because that's typically how New Yorkers think. I mean come on, New York!

Also, if he won New York, he was over 1/3rd the way to winning the popular vote. He only needed Chicago, LA, and SF, plus over turning of the Electoral College, to win.

@ Cookie... You are out of date. The Dems have taken off the mask and gone full Strong Man Ruler Marxist State in imitation of the ways of their ChiCom pay masters. Slow Joe Biden only got 1.5 billion to say they are not a threat to the USA. Which just proves he is a poor dealmaker.

Somebody help me out here: What (aside from the comic aspect) has he "contributed" to the campaign?

Any particularly striking policy prescriptions? Correct me if I'm wrong, but he was, to the best of my recollection, a "me too" candidate, echoing what everyone else was promising with minor variations.

Serious Question
Robert Cook; did you consider the Soviet Union to be Communist ?
Or, in your mind, were they, under Stalin, "basically (slightly) liberal old-guard Republicans"

NYC is a city of millionaires, billionaires, Wall Street, and the nation's chief financial institutions (and, you know, the rest of us, the rabble). It is NOT a Marxist city.

The dislike is because he's an obvious grandiosely self-regarding asshole.

Robert Cook is right on one thing: there is no difference between the Democrats and liberal "Republicans." They're part of the same fraud, and LLR's have zero reason or desire to even slow the Democrats marching to insanity. The platform of GND, illegal immigration, higher spending, and free trade is one both sides of the Uniparty share.

Which makes Trump able to flatten the Uniparty, of course, but still. Watching LLRs confess to their true goals is always worthwhile.

"That first line is only 4 syllables."

A certain amount of poetic license is allowed in any form of poetry. Sometimes a two-syllable word is shortened and at other times a word can be extended as needed. In this instance, read the first line as 'ray-uld'. For another example, see Bill Shakespeare's use of ban-ish-ed, where an extra beat is needed. If I had needed fewer syllables, I could have shortened "against" to "'gainst" and would have suffered no penalty.

I got my poetic license at the University of Iowa department of English, and have kept it in good standing all these many years.

B de B is a proponent of the worst form of politics: When a bunch of people in his village realized they could be far better off if they employed animals to help with the work, his impulse was not to try to convince everyone this was a good idea, but rather to murder the animals in the middle of the night so everyone in the village would be more equal.

DeBlasio is not only shameless and arrogant, he's also humorless. Mayor Koch, with whom Trump also clashed, would have replied with a riposte of his own. Warren Wilhelm, while born in Manhattan, grew up in Boston, btw. And as someone else alluded, he's only the second most loathsome politico in NYC, after his schools chancellor Richard Carranza. Counting the days...
