"He made eye contact with almost everyone in the first few rows of the standing crowd. It was as mesmerising as it was slightly terrifying."

"It was clear that while he may have fallen from grace for the alleged sexual assaults he did not feel any apparent remorse."

Said the writer Barbie Latza Nadeau, quoted in "Kevin Spacey makes first public appearance since sex assault allegations with pointed poetry reading" (UK Spectator).
Spacey appeared in front of the Greek statue Boxer at Rest in Rome, to read Gabriele Tinti’s poem The Boxer... [which] contains the lines: "They used me for their entertainment, fed on shoddy stuff. Life was over in a moment" and "The more you're wounded the greater you are. And the more empty you are. I have endured no end of sleepless nights. I have spent hours and hours sweating to destroy and fall."

He is a great actor.

Aren’t we supposed to admire the man who plays Verbal King but in reality is Keyser Soze?

tcrosse म्हणाले...

Well, he could have done Simon and Garfunkel's The Boxer.

rhhardin म्हणाले...

I only know him from movies. He seems fine. I pay no attention to actors off screen. They're morons.

Too much time in drama club in high school, perhaps.

Leland म्हणाले...

Didn't Kevin Spacey make a public appearance in court since the sex assault allegations? And what's with the "sex assault allegations with pointed poetry reading"? Is it some sort of aggravation to read poetry while sexual assaulting someone? Wait, I bet it is, but that's not what I or Barbie's headline writer meant.

Craig Howard म्हणाले...

Spacey might just make it out of this alive.

traditionalguy म्हणाले...

His only crime is treating youngsters as his sexual playthings. If that law ever gets enforced Hollywood and Disney will be goners.

Marcus Bressler म्हणाले...

Agreed. Isn't a court appearance a "public appearance"? Writers.....

OK, I’m puzzled. What?

Shouting Thomas म्हणाले...

Why should he express remorse?

So far, nothing but allegations.

Paul म्हणाले...

It's not that he was guilty... it's that 99 percent of them in Hollywood got off.

Wow! He really is playing a performance with this whole thing. A big, fabulous, over the top drama queen. All over a little diddling, one time out of many, I'm sure. It's a fabulous new world. Now more than ever in history: "All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players: they have their exits and their entrances; and one man in his time plays many parts, his acts being seven ages."

There should be a point to all poetry, but they don't have to be pointy.

Yancey Ward म्हणाले...

Now perhaps they can throw out the last season of House of Cards and redo it with Spacey.

Those boxing gloves were generally meant to inflict more damage, rather than less as with modern gloves.

I feel like chicken tonight, like chicken tonight.

What a great statue. Incredibly, it may have been made as early as 300 BC. As for Spacey, I heard his big mistake was being a Liberal Republican, and so the knives came out.

The Greeks had a form of wrestling where anything went, except for eye gouging and kicking someone in the nuts.

He'd make a great villain on one the new GOT series. They could base the character on him.....What do you do with people who are extremely dissolute but not quite criminal and retain extraordinary talents. Myself, I think Woody Allen should still be making movies whatever kinks that exist in his libido....Sex is very confusing. Not that many people get it right, especially people in the entertainment industry. Twisted libidos is part of their motive force.

His first starring was of a kefauveresque senator with a conflicted past, in the second season of crime story, but as a general rule he hasn't played a sociopath he just acts the way he does thing normally.

The irony with Underwood is besides the occasional murder (sac) hes generally a moderate candidate, you cant get him going for a green new deal even his jobs program was reasonably priced.

I wonder what poem Harvey Weinstein will read and where?

If you have the right politics and enough time passes, the Left will always forgive their own, no matter what.

Joe म्हणाले...

I've a theory that some good actors are psychopaths. They adjust so well into their rolls because they have no personality of their own. I think Kevin Spacey is one of these.

rhhardin म्हणाले...

Actors tend to be lefties because there's more drama.

Now to taunt the public with creepy tomes then restore my A list career...

Krumhorn म्हणाले...

The characterizations of his video and now this poetry reading are that he is a little loopy, a bit deranged, odd...and worse, unrepentant. Maybe I’m a bit loopy and odd, but he’s starting to get my sympathy which I didn’t think was possible. He may well work his way back into the business. He may have to finance it himself, but it could work. Mel Gibson is, below the surface, a pariah, but his financial returns from the success of Passion have given him immunity from being voted off the island for the time being. Spacey may yet live through this.

The boxer's expression is one of wonderment that he's now expected to drink out of this thing.

This was before the invention of the squeeze bottle, a relatively recent boxing innovation.

The Vault Dweller म्हणाले...

There is some weird duality with some of these MeToo cases, where the accused can be both perpetrator and victim. Perpetrator because obviously they have done something which even if not criminal may still be immoral or improper. But they are sometimes the victim too, because they suffered an over reaction to something that may have been bad but not something that warranted a heightened a level of response as some have faced, not even counting the times where there may have been guilty people but they got cashiered with little or no due process. I am very much against the unpersoning of people that some of the moral crusaders feel they need to do in this instance.

The Vault Dweller म्हणाले...

Spacey might just make it out of this alive. If he does it is because society does not care about sexual assault or sexual misconduct against men, even if it is by other men as much as it does for similar acts against women. Though to be fair I don't think society cares that much about that kind of misconduct against women if women are the perpetrators either.

The Vault Dweller म्हणाले...

If you zoom in on the ear of the statue it looks like the sculptor gave the boxer cauliflower ears. An interesting detail, which makes me think the sculptor's model was really a boxer.

Ken B म्हणाले...

I have seen that statue, standing right where Spacey is. It's one of the highlights of the museum in Rome.

His "victims" were white males. So it's all good.

Lewis म्हणाले...

I feel sorry for him - he was the boss of the old vik - part of his problem - Listen, as a ballet dancer, I knew guys who would just assume - whereever - it meant nothing - it was the ethitec of 'theatre' - you had to be there. So, poor old git, he was that. After my dead friend, Andrew, he was the best at the old vic.

Lewis म्हणाले...

Ethic

Lewis म्हणाले...

I mean 'grabing you' - wasn't that just theatre?? It was 'normal' in our world - for someone to enter that world and complain of it, well, like a prostitute complaining of sex - either you're a Shirley Mclaen character and really dumb or you know....?
