Good morning, larks!

I guess most of my readers are up already. Look at the results of this poll I did yesterday:

Last night was a late one for us larks. Midnight! Here's a view of the stage where we were:

But, yes, I know about Epstein's broken hyoid bone. It's not like you need me to make it official.

Up at 430 today. Dark out. Eastern sky was just brightening up at 5 AM.

Ann, where the hell have you been? Sleepyhead. Let’s get rolling!

good morning.

Up at 4:30, night time low is 58f. so all the windows were open and sleeping was great...until a pack of coyotes chased down some unfortunate prey. They made quite the racket and started my day earlier than I would have liked. The positive is I answered some emails and did a thorough in box cleaning and maintenance.

The song Night Owl is kind of funny because it wastes the first minute stretching and yawning before it finally gets going.

Tank म्हणाले...

Overslept - 6:20 AM. Making up for being up half a dozen times with leg cramps. They suck.

NotWhoIUsedtoBe म्हणाले...

Bunch of old people lol. Slept 9 hours.

Big Mike म्हणाले...

I’m only up because I have to meet someone at the airport. The best thing about retirement is sleeping in.

Rob म्हणाले...

Grumble, grumble.

Maybe journalists are just lazy ne'er-do-wells who only get up at 10 am and want to cover for their slothful behavior.

Temujin म्हणाले...

Up at 3:30. Went back to sleep at 4:30. Up at 5:30. Typical night. If I could only train myself to go to bed early, I could be up writing for hours before I have to do some work. If only....

whitney म्हणाले...

You're excited because you found out most people sleep when it's dark and get up during the day? K

Jaq म्हणाले...

"The best thing about retirement is sleeping in.”

Not for me. The best thing about retirement is having the time to do what you want to do. I would rather have an afternoon nap in the sun to get that extra shuteye than sleep in.

I think y'all are a bunch of Larker Supremacists.

Up all night. Does insomnia count?

Just don’t start a fight club, that never ends well.

Hello from LA, 5:20am.

henry म्हणाले...

Why call us "larks" as if waking up when the critters start making noise is somehow unserious? They think we are early birds and eating worms? Ah well, cocktail hour in a bit, so...

Meade म्हणाले...

“Last night was a late one for us larks. Midnight! ”

Didn’t stop this extreme lark from rolling out to greet the dawn. Never know when MadisonMan might stroll by asking for advice on which way the wind is blowing. Or asking how many roads must a man paddleboard down.

Hagar म्हणाले...

Repeat:
My mother, as my "old country" guardian, and my uncle, as my U.S. sponsor, both had to sign statements that they clearly understood that if I ever (until I gained citizenship, that is) in any way became a burden to the American taxpayer I would be deported to my home country and my uncle would be billed for any expenses incurred by the United States government connected with that process.

This is nothing new, but has been - and still is - the law since the U.S. first adopted comprehensive immigration law back around 1900 or so.

Meade म्हणाले...

Larkers and Lurkers.

"This is nothing new, but has been - and still is - the law since the U.S. first adopted comprehensive immigration law back around 1900 or so.”

Someone should ask the Democrat candidates if they plan to take the oath of office if they win, especially the part about “upholding the laws."

Well, I would have been here earlier but my computer insisted on updating itself TWO FREAKING times. I was up at 5am

Now at 5:37 am Pacific time, I can finally browse the internet. Actually I was on about 15 minutes earlier and was reading about Epstein's neck and about Bill Clinton in a blue dress wearing red high heels. Thank GOD the coffee finally got done!

Ryan म्हणाले...

Everyone focuses on the early bird getting the worm. But, think about the early worm: it is better off sleeping in.

MountainMan म्हणाले...

Got up at exactly 6:41 this morning - just like 23andMe predicts. Cooked a great breakfast for the wife and me. Still drinking coffee, checking blogs, doing some financial updates. Got to get up in the attic in a few minutes and continue with a major cleanup in preparation for some home re-modeling in the near future. Will stay up there until it gets too hot.

I get some of my best investment ideas at 3:00 am in the dark night of the soul. But I always wait until the markets open.

Who're the 10 wierdos who evidently take random catnaps rather than getting an extened uninterupted sleep period?

Wince म्हणाले...

"Try that lark thing in the Bowery. Those guys will show you their larks."

MadisonMan म्हणाले...

I sold my paddleboard last year. Wasn't using it that much, and a neighbor asked.

Yancey Ward म्हणाले...

"Who're the 10 wierdos who evidently take random catnaps rather than getting an extened uninterupted sleep period?"

Guidoforcannonballs, Inga, Anti-DeSitterSpace, Oncewritten..., RalphL, Joe Biden, Jeffrey Epstein, Ritmo, Elvis, and The Dalai Lama.

Tyrone Slothrop म्हणाले...

Don't forget about time zones. I always hate being late to the party.

"Well, I would have been here earlier but my computer insisted on updating itself TWO FREAKING times. I was up at 5am."

My two Windows laptops did this, early yesterday the one of them and earlier this morning the other. In my case it was something about a 'May 2019 update'. Pft. Will admit that the second updating didn't take nearly as long as the first. The only reason I'd ever convert to Apple is because my understanding is that this nonsense doesn't happen over there.

Seeing Dawn, and hearing the birds & the little animals, awaken after the end of the night is a daily pleasure I wouldn't trade away for anything. But dusk falling and the onset of night is also high on the list.

I'm trying to get my head around a midnight performance of "Arsenic and Old Lace". No wonder the theater is nearly empty.

I see people paddle by anytime the weather is nice. I admit I don’t get it.

Re play.

The Glass Menagerie?

Ann Althouse म्हणाले...

"You're excited because you found out most people sleep when it's dark and get up during the day? K"

When you get up at 4 or 5, even in the summer, it's dark. In the winter, if you get up at 4, you have hours before it gets light.

Ann Althouse म्हणाले...

"The Glass Menagerie?"

Where's the glass menagerie? Where's the typing table? Where's the picture on the wall of that "gallantly" smiling father who skipped the light fantastic long ago.

But thanks for playing!

Yancey Ward म्हणाले...

The scene captured in the photograph was probably the best part of play.

Jaq म्हणाले...

Where are the no neck monsters fer cripes’ sake!

Clyde म्हणाले...

I missed yesterday's poll, but I would have gone with the first answer. It's not by choice; my job demands that I get up at 3 a.m. to start work at 4:30 a.m. You do what you have to do. This morning, by the way, I woke up at 2:54 a.m., six minutes before the first alarm went off.

Ann Althouse म्हणाले...

The play was Ibsen's "Doll's House."

Bart Hall म्हणाले...

"Doll's House" is one of three Ibsen plays I have in his original Norwegian, along with "Wild Duck" and "Enemy of the People". I speak and read Norwegian reasonably well -- not planning on running for Mayor of South Bend anytime soon -- but I learnt Nynorsk [New Norwegian], which is a modernized hybrid of the linguistic dog's-breakfast that is/was Norwegian. There are three different 'official' versions of the language, Nynorsk being one. That does not include some dozens of heavy regional dialects in the more remote areas, even Bergen.

Little more than a century old, Ibsen's Norwegian is a real slog. The difference between Ibsen and Nynorsk is far greater than that between Shakespeare and our version of English, though not quite as jarring as the jump from Chaucer.

We used to live but a few miles from Spring Green, and I wish I'd been able to enjoy "Doll's House" at APT.
