"Aided by a strong economy and perceptions that he has dealt with it effectively, President Trump’s approval rating has risen to the highest point of his presidency...."

"... though a slight majority of Americans continue to say they disapprove of his performance in office, according to a Washington Post-ABC News poll.... [M]ore than 6 in 10 Americans say he has acted in ways that are unpresidential since he was sworn into office. Still, roughly one-fifth of those who say he is not presidential say they approve of the job he is doing, and he runs even against four possible Democratic nominees in hypothetical general-election matchups. He trails decisively only to former vice president Joe Biden. Trump’s approval rating among voting-age Americans stands at 44 percent, edging up from 39 percent in April, with 53 percent saying they disapprove of him. Among registered voters, 47 percent say they approve of Trump while 50 percent disapprove. In April, 42 percent of registered voters said they approved while 54 percent said they disapproved."

WaPo reports.

Top-rated comment: "After all he has done, the embarrassment he has brought to the US, his lying and losing and lawlessness, nevertheless his approval numbers are going up.... Maybe there is no hope for this country."

The high Disapproval ratings is astounding given we're at peace and prosperous. It shows two things. One, the power of the MSM. 92% Negative Trump coverage, effects a lot of low-information idiots. Two, because of Demographic change, the number of Yellow Dog, "I'll vote Democrat no matter what" Democrats is growing each year. We've seen it in California, where 50%+ voters will always vote D. The D's in California could nominate AOC for Governor now - and she'd win.

These newspapers do not conduct themselves professionally, we've seen it time and again with the way they censor stories or distort the truth.

Imagine, Ann, that you had such a comment rating system and also the ability to tweak the numbers to make certain comments rise to the top and some fall into obscurity. You could even anonymously and post your own comments and add 4,000 likes to them to front page them as the comment of the day.

I know you are aware of how a comment can change the discussion flow because you specifically warned us against hijacking threads, especially in the opening comments.

I'm just saying, we know these people are corrupt, do you think they really don't abuse their own system? I don't trust them, I bet they massage their comment up/down votes. And if they don't get the remark that they want, they created themselves.

Both ABC poll versions are useless--"voting age" is just the general population regardless of whether they are even registered to vote--polls often list these as polls of "adults", and these usually poll lowest for Trump. A very large % of these people do not actually vote.

Then there is the poll of "registered voters" which polls higher for Trump, but still polling a significant number of people who do not vote, and thus who's opinion is interesting but otherwise irrelevant.

The most meaningful polling pool is of "likely voters", people who have had a fairly recent history of actually voting. Rasmussen only polls "likely voters", and on a daily basis. His numbers are almost always higher for Trump than polls of "adults" or "registered voters".

Then again, there is a significant % of the population that avoids answering truthfully, or at all. That would include the so-called "shy Trump voters".

Calling randomly, by the way, demonstrably leads to more calls in CA, NY, IL, TX and FL due to populations of these states.

Bottom line is most of the polls are useless, and often purposely skewed to support a party or candidate. This is especially true of "national" polls, since we elect by state, not by national popular vote, much to the recent chagrin of the Left.

Slightly off topic, I'm convinced Obama's high approval ratings were always overstated, especially in the last year of his disastrous reign. Just as there are "shy Trump" voters, there were many who could not bring themselves to truthfully voice disapproval of our first black president, regardless of how harmful his policies were to America. Fear of ostracism in the age of runaway PC is a strong demotivator for expressing truth.

And the US in general and US military in particular. Anyway, she recently wrote an article with a big beware-Kamala-Harris-favorite-of-oligarchs. Most interesting take-away for me is;

”This wasn’t a fluke. Harris has been cultivating her debate skills for decades, first in the Howard University debate team where she is said to have “thrived”, then as a prosecutor, then as a politician, and she’ll be able to replicate the same calibre of performance in all subsequent debates. There’s more to getting elected than debate skills, but it matters, and in this area no one will be able to touch her”.

Marcus at 3:25 PM = Trump is easily one of the best 5 presidents ever.
He made some mistakes in his youth - you have to be a very flawed human being to live in the 1990s and be a Democrat, as he was, and his role as the evildoer in at least one eminent domain case will be an eternal stain on his memory, until the last day of this world ----
but he is a better and kinder man by far than anybody who has been President in the last few decades , and - if you want to recognize how much he is appreciated by people who appreciate the fact that he cares about the downtrodden Americans, about those who were left behind by the rich Obamas and Clintons and Bushes who will soon be indistinguishable in their arrogance and lack of concern for the real problems of real Americans (well the Bushes got a few things right, but they were rich rich rich and never ever understood how blessed they were to have the opportunity - which they wasted, as rich people often do - to care in the right way ) --- if you try and assess how much Trump is loved, as a matter of simple statistics, take away the people who hate him because they or someone they were affiliated with had abortions, which he considers an abomination in his mature wisdom, and take away, in your truthful count, the people who hate him because he is white - you would be surprised at how many anti-white racists there are in this country, probably ten or twenty million or so, poor souls --- and if you take away people who hate him because they get money from the government on false pretenses - and are worried that he thinks they are cheaters ----- if you take away those specific groups, his approval rating would be in the high 80s.

That being said, Kennedy and Johnson and Nixon and Ford and both Bushes were very brave people. And poor little Obama, for all his faults, was a loyal husband to a mean-spirited wife, and there is nothing I could respect more than that, being someone who considers such loyalty to one's God-goven spouse to be an essential part of being a good human.

Still, go back decades and decades and ask yourself, was the President in any given year, as you go back in time, a decent human being, and you have to say: for decades and decades, they have been lousy presidents in each and every case, and with the exception of Nixon not a single one of them was the sort of person any decent man would be able to let his daughter marry without feeling a deep wound in his soul, .... but , nevertheless, most of them were brave in their youth and they deserve to be respected for that.

Why do I bother? read on ....

Even if nobody reading this is going to think hey I wish one of those losers would have married a daughter of my mine!
even if nobody cares, I am going to say this ..... Not happening, my friends, God is good, and the capacities of loser people who want to make this world a worse place for their own selfish reasons are small , tiny capacities, compared to the powers of God.
Even if nobody reading this really cares one way or another, remember this:

God loves us all, and either you have lots of descendants and you want them all to be the men and women God wanted them to be, or you have no descendants at all but you still want people to be better than they would have been if nobody had prayed for them .... or maybe you are one of God's chosen and you know that God hears your prayers .......

For the record, my list of top five presidents - that is, the five who did the least harm doing a job that none of them were qualified for ----- are poor lonely Washington (a fellow Virginian and someone who often prayed to God with eloquence, and someone who despite his faults was admirable in most of his actions... but still, a lonely man who could have had more friends, and could have done much better) and Garfield and Coolidge and Reagan and Trump.

Look up Ballot Box 13 in San Antonio, TX.

Martha McSally ran a weak campaign but the OC reps had all won on Election Day. Then the harvested votes trickled in over the next two weeks.

Another victory like that, and she'll be lucky to stay a Senator. And that's before Joe Biden politically nukes her in retaliation for costing him the nomination!

I must admit though, polls are white noise. Trusting oligarch media, which is as mendacious as it is incompetent, is what has led the Democrats to this point: facing multiple high-level indictments and pitifully poor presidential prospects. That enthusiasm will bring in several percent more votes, because there's a significant block of people who can't bring themselves to just vote against someone, they need to feel they're voting for someone too.

Democrats, however, will mainly only be voting against Trump, but I don't see any chance that any of the current flock of clowns will actually engender much enthusiasm for voting *for* them. Any one of the clowns might have 15%, at best, of the Left base enthusiastically vote for them, but the other 85% will be holding their nose.

The Left's only chance will be massive voter fraud, and as Michael K correctly pointed out, they know it, and they'll be going all in. I sincerely hope Trump is prepared.

TRADE: Trump says ‘favored-nations clause’ on drug prices is on its way. “President Donald Trump on Friday said his administration intends to announce a plan to decrease prescription drug costs based on the lowest price other countries pay. . . . The announcement comes less than two weeks after Trump signed an executive order to improve the transparency of healthcare costs. The order requires hospitals and insurance companies to tell patients their rates for medical services and what patients will be expected to pay out of pocket before undergoing treatment. Since his inauguration, Trump has made reducing prescription drug costs a priority of his administration.

I think Republicans shouldn't get overconfident. Even if the D's nominate some clown like Harris or Buttigig, this will be a hard-fought campaign that we will be lucky to win. Personally, I think Trump re-election chances are no more than 50-50 - even if we have continuing prosperity.

We will have to fight like the devil to get get enough independents in the right states to vote Trump. 45% will vote D - no matter what. The D's have the West Coast, Hawaii and the Northeast locked up. They would vote for Joe Stalin's Corpse if nominated. Minnesota is full of morons and VA is too. The margin for error is small and Trump have to thread the needle.

And the MSM Will continue to be an Arm of the DNC. Look at Trump's drug prices announcement. I follow politics closely and I barely heard about it. The chances that Joe Six-pack in Michigan knows about it are zero.

Pretty impressive since Trump has withstood 92% negative coverage 24/7 since he took office. Imagine if the press covered him like their boyfriend Obama? I guess we have to see what happens as Poppy Bush was "unbeatable" a year out from an election year.

"Actually, Trump promised "4, 5, or 6%" growth. And implied 7% was achievable. What an asshole! Talk about raising the chocolate ration. Now 3% is fantastic!"

You can thank the "severely "conservative" John McCain (obambicare) and Fed Chairman Powell (hey, lets just keep raising rates without any real inflation indicators) after handing obambi 0% rates for the entirety of obambis terms.

Strange times.

Looks like China will eat the 25% tariffs and hopes Trump is not re-elected. If China gives in, it will help Trumps re-election.

The new NAFTA will probably be voted on after the election. This will hurt Canada’s economy, but Trudeau seems to believe defeating Trump is more important.

Mexico is reducing illegal immigration, and may sign a 3rd country agreement on asylum.

Companies are moving production out of China, due to the us tariff issue. Laundering items thru vietnam may work for a few containers, but if you get caught, your us import business is dead (per an importer I spoke with).

Ebola is out of control, and you have African immigrants arriving at the Southern Border.

Barr seems to be focused on cleaning up the political stuff that the Steel Dossier is a prime example on. This may help Trump a lot, or more CYA by the deepstate.

The Epstein prosecution may blow up, or drag on forever in court. Epstein has lots of money to make it drag on. Nancy Pelosi’s daughter tweeted it may effect a lot of high faves. I’m betting something like Weinstein.

Internet giants seem to be over reaching themselves on anti Trump activities, and Trump does punch back.

Iran and Venezuela - more ticking time bombs. Can they outlast Trump?

Msm is laying off lots, 12,000, and rating are way down at cnn.

Trump has actually called out the chamber of commerce, which is major.

NRA is in disarray.

Brexit May happen before the 2020 election.

Add to the strange times list a United States Treasury owned and operated dollar backed by gold that replaces the bankrupt FED ponzi scheme which is then audited and its assets declared forfeited to the USA.

His approval numbers are going up cause he as increased the number of jobs, defused North Korea, kicked Iran to the curb, and made good on his promises. Any lawlessness is cause by the Democrats and their DOJ stooges.

Maybe instead there is now hope for this country.

There's not enough gold bullion to back the United States dollar, which was the reason we left the gold standard in the first place.

I’ve wondered about this “lying” charge for a while. Most politicians seem to lie their as off in the form of promises they have no intention of keeping (but are prepared with all the structural reasons it could not be done). I’ve come to realize that by lie they mean he denies their vision of how things are supposed to be. They are savages making sacrifices to the setting sun.

readering म्हणाले...

By lie they mean he says things that are obviously false, like it's fake news that the damages citizenship question is being left off the Census form. Commerce and DOJ may have decided without consulting WH (although I don't believe that) but press was reporting what the responsible government departments announced. He does stuff like this all day every day.

I agree. We can't forget that for 2016, most the Democrats had left the stadium to beat traffic before the start of the 4th quarter. They won't do that again in 2020.

And they DO NOT CARE how good Trump has been for the economy or peace. All they care about is power, and as someone said upthread: Trump is guilty of dispelling their illusionary alternate realities (see: Inga, Chuck). The Left will never forgive him for that, same as they never forgave Reagan for winning the Cold War.

Lefties lie every day on major issues. This green new deal plank they’re all touting they wouldn’t even vote to bring it to the floor. They wouldn’t take up Trump and the Republicans on their offer to discuss legal immigration reform including amnesty. They are lying about what is important to them.

So, just to confirm: readering is upset that Trump is upset that illegal immigrants will effectively be able to falsely misrepresent themselves as full citizens in the census, and she just can't abide the flagrant dishonesty of *his* response to that?

I guess you're right. If only he would take the honest approach and pretend that citizenship hasn't been a formal census question throughout the nation's history and pretend that it is now all of a sudden unconstitutional. If only we could learn true honest discourse like all of our lefty friends.
