"It is public knowledge that girls who are born on the island allegedly turn into boys and grow penises when they hit puberty due to a rare genetic disorder linked to a missing enzyme."

"At least one in 90 children born in the village located in the Dominican Republic will have made the genetic transition by the time they reach 12 years old....  [F]or some male babies, the missing 5-α-reductase enzyme – which triggers the hormone surge – means they appear to be born female with no testes and what looks very much like a vagina. When puberty hits, a large surge of testosterone triggers the male reproductive organs to grow, causing voices to deepen and a penis to develop... The condition is so prevalent in [Salinas] it is no longer considered abnormal."

Reports The Guardian.

A genetic or phenotypic transition? They are still boys and girls, but with transversal physical attributes.

But if it's true, it seems believable. The human body is pretty amazing, and when we look at isolated populations we see some really interesting genetic signatures.
This particular condition doesn't really address the idea that a 4 year old can announce they are a girl in a boy's body, and it takes hormones and surgery to make it appear that way.
If we are going to really discuss gender anomalies, we need to be able to discuss the fact that some parents are happy to endanger their children's well-being for their own self-satisfaction. We can't pretend that part of it doesn't exist.

The village where boys are born as girls: Genetic deformity means Dominican Republic babies are born apparently female and only grow male sex organs at puberty

The close proximity suggests that it is an incestuous condition, which is exhibited by 1% of the population.

Aww, those inbred peasants must be quite sweet-tempered and non-judgemental to have such quaint, er, open-minded, ideas about deformed, non-functioning genitals.

At least if you believe the MSM article which started out with a false statement.

There has always been some sort of mystery attached to the subject of gender and the Caribbean village of Salinas is a prime example of the ambiguities of gender.

Oh for cryin' out loud. What mystery? What ambiguity? The condition is explained fairly straightforwardly in the article itself; just peel away the tendentious, irrelevant, agenda-promoting padding.

There's nothing new or mysterious about these sorts of developmental anomalies caused by glitches in hormonal timing.

MayBee: This particular condition doesn't really address the idea that a 4 year old can announce they are a girl in a boy's body, and it takes hormones and surgery to make it appear that way.

No, it doesn't. Though no doubt some illusory connection between them can be perceived by Guardian writers and readers when the ignes fatui in the marshy territory between their ears flash.

Oh! There goes the alarm. Time to wake up. Damn.

I don't understand the use of "genetic transition" it is a physical transition caused by genes, but the genes themselves don't change.

Of course you don't. "At least one in 90 children born in the village located in the Dominican Republic will have made the genetic transition by the time they reach 12 years old" is a string of bullshit written for the scientifically illiterate woke, by the scientifically illiterate woke, to promote a bullshit agenda.

"These pseudo-hermaphrodites had ambiguous genitalia with “labial-like scrotums” and “blind vaginal pouches,” and were thought to be girls at birth by the other villagers. Upon puberty, however, their clitorises enlarged to resemble small (micro) penises, their testes descended, muscles developed, and their voices grew deep. But, their sexual organs remained severely undeveloped."

Same thing happens to female body-builders who take large doses of steroids. Along with the bulging biceps, they get a three-inch clitoris, and very heavy labia (yes, there's porn). But I expect they can still get pregnant. It sounds like these poor guys probably can't impregnate a woman, so the disease must be passed on the female side, like hemophilia.

Ingachuck'stoothlessARM म्हणाले...

The guevedoces’ rare start in life has also provided insight into human sexuality. Despite being brought up as girls for the majority of their lives, most young guevedoces identify strongly as heterosexuals and express a disdain for women’s lifestyles.

pseudohermaphrodites often appear in small communities like Salinas. Higher-than-normal numbers of pseudohermaphrodites have also been documented in Papua, New Guinea, where they are referred to as turnims, which means “expected to become men.”

The “founder effect” is the lack of genetic variation among the population of a newly established, isolated or closed human settlement or community because of inbreeding. The comparatively large number of people with 5-alpha-reductase deficiency could have been because of either of these two reasons along with their isolation geographically.

though the reports say they live normal male lives, no specific info on fertility/reproduction

I don't know if this is the same, but this situation sounds similar to what happens with what we call "intersex" babies. However in our society, with our medical technology, doctors advise the parents to perform surgeries to create a female identity. In some cases I've read about and watched videos about, the clitoris is reduced and the infant goes home as a girl; often the baby is brought back later the internal testes are removed and female hormones are given. However this alteration doesn't always feel right for the children who look like girls but who identify psychologically as male. Some intersex individuals are now advocating that physicians cease doing these "rectifications" and that we accept intersex people, those who are not male nor female. If we can accept the sanctity of all life, including the lives of Down Syndrome children, can we accept intersex children?

n.n म्हणाले...

Lewis Wetzel म्हणाले...

They are not "intersex." They are males with genitalia that develop in an unusual manner. They never have a vagina; they can never bear children.
Male genitalia sometimes develop abnormally. Biological sex is not dependent on the appearance of the genitalia.

Lewis Wetzel म्हणाले...

The cultural left wants you to believe that you are not real. You are a social construct. Nothing you think of as being "you" is actually yours. You didn't build that. Your sex is assigned at birth. You have achieved nothing, you were not created you, instead, society has created and privileged or deprivileged you.
The individual is nothing. His beliefs are rooted in ignorance, or learned bigotry, or neuroses or mental disorders. Only the State can express the true, pure spirit of humanity, and it does this precisely because it is inhuman -- it is passionless and emotionless, it has no mother, no father, it has no children to prefer over the more deserving children of others. It can never age, get sick, and die.
This insanity took root in our intellectual class a century ago. and our intellectuals, God bless them, have never considered that they choose to believe this for the most human of reasons -- it gives them power over their own life and the lives of others.
