Opposite genders actually. The bright red are the males...the dull brown are the females. Male birds are usually the most colorful so they can attract the females.
females can't be ordained; how could they be Cardinals is they can't even be Priests? females don't play in the major leagues, even for crappy St Louis teams!
I see ZERO cardinals. I got it right after careful analysis of the laws to protect cardinals from hunters. There aren't any such laws. Just give rotten redneck New York hunters, Don Jr., and Eric Trump a chance to kill every last one of them with their slingshots. Maybe, Colonel Beernie Sanders will make Vermont jerk "chicken." Folks, this IS a culture war inflamed by the erection of Schlump, a one-term president. Stop hunters and trappers in their murderous tracks.
Thanks to rhhardin I count four males, two females, and a possible third female in the crotch of a tree in the lower right corner -- but it could be a clump of reddish-brown leaves because it's a bit further back. There's a grey bird with black wings above the left-most cardinal, but I can't quite figure out what it is. It's nothing that comes around my feeders here in Virginia.
@Aunty, too big for a junco. I love our juncos. When I come out on the deck to refill the bird feeders all the birds scatter, but the brave little juncos are always the first to return.
I see 6 that are definitely cardinals and there is 1 additional bird in the upper left corner that might be a female cardinal, but looks almost bluish to my eyes.
There might be 1 more bird right at the very top edge of the photo near the left corner, but it appears to be facing away, so I can't tell if it is just a dead leaf or not.
Two females. One gray bird- a cold titmouse? Four males. Possibly one male lower center that’s good at hiding. There’s a couple splotches of crimson between the green...
Trumpit, of course, has to flaunt his inanity, even in a thread about birds in a bush. Go figure. You need to see someone about that obsession of yours.
The beautiful cocky Redbirds are the males. The cream-brown streaked one are the camouflaged females. God designed the guardian males to take a hunter’s fire away from the mother birds. And then God moves onto designing the Peacocks, and he let his artistry go wild.

The difference in appearance of the male and female birds is due to sexual selection.
If sexual selection leads to a marked change in a species, it’s likely because the trait selected for produces a benefit for the species, such as attracting the attention of maybe a sharp shinned hawk away from the female bearing the brightly colored bird’s young. Not always true, of course, so maybe we have to ask God or Trumpit for the answer in this case.
Lucky you. I'm still missing the cardinals. Hurricane Harvey took them away from my backyard. Some here in town have some, but they have not returned to my trees, or feeders. Oh, we see one, once in a while. There used to be a pair that nested in the bay tree and we enjoyed seeing the fledglings trying their wings. But not since Harvey.

I see three.
Without blowing up the picture I see 4.
4 maybe 5? Cant see between their legs so not sure of gender.
Four females (bright red plumage) and two males (dull brown plumage).
The Bluejays are in Milwaukee this weekend to play the Warriors. Screw cardinals.
Seven, maybe eight.
The grey ones just identify as female.
It's not testosterone season or the males would all be fighting.
I'm with chuck.

Bonus points for the junco.
The Cardinal: Most Fuckable State Bird
I see six but I’m using my phone. Nevertheless, a shrub full of cardinals is pretty cool.
4 Meades, 2 Anns
The females are much more clever about camouflage.
The males, not so much - but they do know how to get them some poontang.

Get the shotgun. They're all wearing MAGA hats.
6 cardinals, 1 other.

Seven zoomed in on my 4k monitor.
Impossible. Al Gore says it is a sauna now outside. Who are you going to believe, St. Gore or you lying eyes!!.
Didn't see any , no even stan musial. There weren't any female cardinals. Feminist's hallucinations.
Four males at least two females. Hard to see the females since they are so drab and boring.
Of course, the females are drab and boring because they are so much smarter.
How many choir and altar boys?
I counted six. Three of each.

Oops, yes, there are four males. Three females. The fourth female is probably around somewhere but is the shy, retiring type.
The patriarchy of Madison.
I see eight, but one might be a fence.
I see one flickr.
4 male cardinals, two females.
Junco near the bottom on the right

There's a grey bird with black wings above the left-most cardinal,
Possibly another junco, conceivably a cedar waxwing.
@Aunty, too big for a junco. I love our juncos. When I come out on the deck to refill the bird feeders all the birds scatter, but the brave little juncos are always the first to return.
Four males, two females plus two interlopers of another species.
I see 6 that are definitely cardinals and there is 1 additional bird in the upper left corner that might be a female cardinal, but looks almost bluish to my eyes.
Also, Waldo is in the lower right corner.
There might be 1 more bird right at the very top edge of the photo near the left corner, but it appears to be facing away, so I can't tell if it is just a dead leaf or not.
And definitely a 9th bird about 20% up from the bottom and from the right edge- also kind of bluish to my eye.
Two females. One gray bird- a cold titmouse? Four males. Possibly one male lower center that’s good at hiding. There’s a couple splotches of crimson between the green...
"Don't miss the females!"
God forbid.

I drink to Cardinal Puff for the sixth time.

Are you joking? Read a book about evolution. The difference in appearance of the male and female birds is due to sexual selection.

We all got our things, Hardin heard "great minds think alike" and forever lost his shit.
Happens.
Great minds think Like I do. Aand nobody thinks like me.
Watching TRump 2019 CPAC decimates that nightmare.
Possibly 7 and a blue jay upper left?
There’s a couple splotches of crimson between the green...
Definitely possible. I missed that- it is probably a male hidden better since I don't see such crimson splotches anywhere but the birds.

Let's vote more of her and then declaim ignorance when all the deaths pile up.
We are smart. You betcha.
Four males, two females, one Dark-eyed Junco, one ... American Robin? facing away from us at the upper left?
I was of three minds, like a tree in which there were three blackbirds.
Birds have pretty good color vision. Birds of prey have pretty excellent vision all around.
