Q: Which of these things does not belong?

A: Trick Question!!!!

According to LLR Chuck these things are all literally equivalent and can be applied to Trump....with one important LLR Chuck supplied caveat: Trump is actually worse than those historical figures who were responsible for those atrocities!

Yes, Chuck, true to his promise to lie about and smear Trump, renains at this level that he sunk to around January of 2015.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — "Madison's mayor is proposing to provide $165,000 for extra security at an apartment complex for homeless families.

The State Journal reports that the Tree Lane apartments have provided permanent housing for 45 of the city's neediest homeless families, but police have responded to numerous incidents including gunfire, the arrest of a person for an attempted homicide at another location, fights and more."

Remember the Cabrini-Green low income housing in Chicago? Apparently the City of Madison does not remember. The US has a long history of congregating dysfunctional individuals and families in large housing complexes. The results are consistent and predictable. Bad things happen when dysfunction people interact. Cabrini-Green was a sad example. We see the interaction of dysfunctional people not just in housing but also in schools. Ironically, Madison is moving to remove police officers from its schools while adding then at housing complexes. I guess the safety of school children is a lower priority.

Los Angeles is grappling with a homeless epidemic. “It’s the worst human catastrophe in America,” says Andy Bales, a pastor who runs the Union Rescue Mission on Skid Row. Faced with a growing crisis, city leaders last year budgeted more than $100 million for affordable housing, addiction treatment, job placement and mental health services. And yet, as L.A.’s real estate prices soar, so does the city’s homeless population. And nowhere have the twin forces of inaccessible housing and inequality created a more explosive mix than in Venice Beach, a hotbed of entertainment executives and talent where the median home price is $1.9 million. Many of these residents are now grappling with a quality-of-life issue that defies their own liberal ideals.

This will be fun to watch.

I think LA needs to raise taxes.

Federal shutdown:

Federal workers get $0 pay stubs as shutdown drags on
https://apnews.com/5d95c567185f4592b4a6e59fa9317f7c

The typical federal employee makes $37 an hour, which translates into $1,480 a week, according to Labor Department data. That’s nearly $1.2 billion in lost pay each week, when multiplied by 800,000 federal workers.

5 weeks gives us over 5 billion. So, is the wall expensive or are federal workers expensive?

I've been wanting to make the following point. There are 4 approaches to immigration that are currently in the mainstream:

1. There should be restrictions on immigration, and to enforce those restrictions we need to have a effective barrier at the border.
1A. And we need to treat people harshly who are caught inside the US with an illegal status .
1B. But I understand there are those who say if have effective enforcement of restrictions, we don't need to treat those who are already here harshly.

2. We should welcome all who want to come to the US, so it is unnecessary to enforce restrictions on immigration.

3. There should be restrictions on immigration, but the policies in place are sufficient to enforce those restrictions.

4. There should be restrictions on immigration, but those restrictions can be enforced without an effective barrier at the border and without treating harshly those who are already here.

1 and 2 are internally coherent and deserve serious debate.

3 has no basis in fact.

4 is so ill-defined, that it is ridiculous. Or (if you disagree) point me to a serious proposal (other than Trump's) that would effectively restrict immigration, and explain why you think it would be effective where the existing policy has not been effective.

California has relatively good weather year round and a generous welfare payment. So we attract the poor and homeless from other states. (we have 10% of the countries population and 30% of welfare cases)

Then add in insane housing policies throughout the state.

The dirty secret no one is willing to talk about is that if all the illegals left California, it would actually become a pretty pleasant place to live in again..more housing, less traffic, more water and reduced government spending. (well I can hope)

If you are feeling stressed and overwhelmed about work or politics or life, forget about meditation and mindfulness just make something, anything, it doesn’t matter what. You will love the sense of focus and accomplishment, and doing it will push all your troubles and concerns away. The drawing of a mouse (living, breathing kind) is a good example. Do rather than consume.

Besides being overpaid, most Fed workers also have more vacation time and better pensions and other benefit than most other American workers. Govt shutdowns are a hazard of the job, just like strikes, layoffs, downsizings, etc. Nevermind the fact that you will eventually be paid in full for work you didn't do, you're basically on an extended paid vacation, and on top of that, most of your bill collectors will understand and give you forbearance. I didn't get any of that when I lost m job 3 years ago. If you're a Fed employee earning that kind of bank and you aren't prepared for a shutdown, shame on you, you have zero sympathy from me.

I just returned from Las Vegas working the consumer electronics show. This is my sixth time going. The first time I went, I walked the vast section of Chinese vendors. I don't want to say a lot of it was primitive but it wasn't polished like the Koreans or the Japanese. But in the last couple years, the Chinese products I've used and sampled are top-notch.
Trustworthiness is their Achilles heel though. I still don't know if that's enough to stop them from surpassing the US.

Also, on my way through McCarran airport security, one of the TSA screeners was looking for something in one of the bins. A co-worker asked her what she was looking for. She replied "My paycheck!". haha!

Regarding Cabrini-Green... Green was an African-American (AA) war hero and Cabrini was an Italian-American War Hero. It was originally an adjacent —and from an architectural and amenities perspective, separate but equal grouping— of high-rise social housing towers. From the outset, the Cabrini sector was essentially all-white and the Green sector essentially all-AA. There didn't seem to be any major indicators of dysfunction on either side.

Nevertheless, as a matter of principle and racial justice, in the 1960s-1970s integrationist attorneys took the Chicago Housing Authority to court on civil rights grounds for maintaining what amounted to a segregated housing project. The plaintiffs won and both sectors of the C-G projects were opened to all comers, regardless of color or ethnicity. Within what amounted to the blink of an eye, the whites abandoned Cabrini, and it too became entirely AA-occupied.

Happy birthday! I was born a week later and many years earlier. The plus side of being old is that you can be absolutely certain of living to a ripe old age. That's not guaranteed and there's no social welfare program as of yet to equitably distribute our years on earth.........I don't especially believe in astrology, but the season in which you're born may shape your personality to some extent. If you're a child of winter born into an inhospitable world, then perhaps you become less confident of a benign providence. It's those damn swaddling clothes. You internalize them.

William म्हणाले...

Perhaps in the interests of fairness, we can kill everybody on their seventieth birthday. The money we save on Social Security and Medicare can be used to retire the student debt and give teachers a substantial raise. Older people such as myself can have an exception grandfathered in. It's an idea whose time has come.

Federal shutdown:

The correct answer is "Yes." But the math is a bit off. Supposedly 800,000 federal bureaucrats missed paychecks which amounts to $31.25 per hour. But Congress will pay them for not working but when you get laid off from your job, the pittance from the unemployment office is all that you will receive. Don't cry for me, Argentina!

But Rush said that this payroll is the first time ever that a payroll was not met in all of our history involving fake government shutdowns. So much for the teeth-gnashing over missed mortgage payments when mortgages are not even due until Tuesday.

Trump - brilliantly, as usual - said to Pelosi and Schumer (but then he forgot his lie or he doesn't know what "take the mantle" means): "I am proud to shutdown the government for border security, Chuck, because the people of this country don’t want criminals and people that have lots of problems and drugs pouring into our country. So I will take the mantle. I will be the one to shut it down. I’m not going to blame you for it…. I will take the mantle of shutting down.”

Crooks and criminals and killers - every one with brown skin - bring drugs and disease and (gasp) problems when they enter our country along the 3,000 mile border with Mexico. Not a single legitimate reason for crossing through customs. Six-year old children can reason better than our impaired president who doesn't recall that he said many, many times: "Mexico will pay for the wall."

Gadfly, every single one of those people coming through our border have a way to do so legally, including asylum. The fact that we refuse to control their entry is why we have Trump. The totally illegitimate concept of "border security" the progressives espouse is that we must not have any barriers to entry. To insist that they do otherwise is a lie.

Gahrie म्हणाले...
