Must everything be about Trump?

Here's a story in The Washington Post, "2018 will be the first year with no violent tornadoes in the United States." A "violent tornado" is at the EF4 or EF5 level, and the modern record-keeping began in 1950, so this is interesting good news. There's nothing in the article about global warming or climate change to make the good news seem more like bad news. We're told there are "many causes" for the lack of violent tornados, but the only one mentioned is the unusually high pressure last spring.

Trump arrived first from someone who was trying to mock the way other people always bring in Trump:
AIEEE!!!!

Global warming is destroying our violent tornados! Oh the humanity!

(Maybe it's Trump's fault, too.)
That guy gets a grim talking-to:
I see from this comment that you are as dull and childish as I thought from a different series of comments. Again you demonstrate the regressive's inability to tell make believe from reality. Child, you cannot criticize others for something that does not exist (duh!). The only reference here to climate change or your savior is in your imagination. Intellectually, you are still in diapers.
The first commenter replied:
Sorry. I'm just trying to fit in at Post-land, where everything is the fault of global warming, Donald Trump, or both.
Speaking of childish and on the anti-Trump front, CadetBoneSpurs wrote:
There has been a F-5 (highest level on the Fart scale) in DC all year.
ADDED: Here's another example from The Washington Post: "More science than you think is retracted. Even more should be." It is what the headline suggests, an article about published scientific papers that have to be retracted. It's not about Trump in any way. But in the comments, we get:
Can you imagine Fox News or Trump ever retracting anything? I can't.

I've seen the Post do it but Trump say he was wrong? No way...

God, Donny, can never be wrong for he is the second coming. I do not know however what sewer he is coming from.

A 500' wide tornado with 200 mph winds rotates at about .2 rpm, which is too slow to make those deplorables dizzier.

Because of Christmas, people have been sitting around talking in family groups for three or four days now - and many are still together - and perhaps a consensus is forming that we can and should talk without bringing in Trump every time. Moreover, Dave Barry's yearly review is very critical, surprisingly critical, of the low standards of the media and of left conformity. He criticizes Trump too but that isn't surprising and his jokes aren't new. What I noticed in conversation was the universal conviction that digital devices are actually dangerous to children and that they are a subtle menace to everyone else, especially when allied with social media. But TV was the thing that was actually not being used - at least so it was said. "I don't watch much TV." "Well, I couldn't get the TV on to watch It's A Wonderful Life because no knew which remote turned it on with the DVD." "Well, my remotes are in the basement in dark corner piled in a box. I keep them because it might turn out that somehow I need the one I just threw out." Well, I binged on Jane Austin on Netflix, comparing all the different versions."

It's called propaganda - which reigns when truth and discernment are no longer present. That was Prvada's modus operandi in controlling the mind of the proletariat. The NYT and The Post are our Pravada
What amuses me is that Ann has flashes of lucidness in questioning the propaganda the but since she has no other bible ( she thinks she has) they sill are her ground reference.
If you were to use the NYT and the WP as tags in her blogs , over 90% of her blogs would have those tags.

Althouse is in the violent throes of Trump Derangement Syndrome Derangement Syndrome. (Alternative diagnosis: she's got bills to pay, and she knows fanning those flames around here brings in the rubles.) Minutes after posting about Larry Eisenberg and selecting, I dunno, a Trump limerick out of literally thousands of options, she complains, "Must everything be about Trump?".

Global warmening is responsible for everything weather-wise. This only need be pointed-out when the thing it causes is bad. Because...shut-up moron!

Wince म्हणाले...

The intended effect of the unrelenting negative coverage about Trump is to make people just want it to STOP, presumably by his removal from office, either early or at the ballot box in 2020.

"Turn it off... turn it off."

Jeff Weimer म्हणाले...

Of course there's no mention of Global Warming when something *good* happens - might complicate the narrative of only doom and despair the product of living in the modern world.

Watch when there's an uptick, inevitable not that the current baseline is zero, and the howling about the "increase in violent tornadoes" will be on the heels within nanoseconds.

Ron Winkleheimer म्हणाले...

Which is why we can't criticize the Left for their lies about the racist things Trump has said and done -- those racist words and actions don't exist, and their lies don't exist in corporeal form (duh).

I’ve noticed an uptick in commenters who attack Althouse personally. The Left doesn’t like it when they’re afraid someone is wandering off the plantation. Their herding mentality kicks in and they use personal attacks to sharpen the message.

Can't expect progressives to use logic, it interferes with their narrative.

Jalanl म्हणाले...

Check you your math.

200 miles per hour = 17,600 ft/minute

500ft wide tornado * pi = 1570 ft circumference

17,600ft/minute / 1570 ft = 11.2 revolutions per minute

or about 1 revolution every 5 seconds

Yancey Ward म्हणाले...

The story was interesting- had F4/F5 tornadoes been ascendant in 2018, the global warming angle would have been played up vigorously. However, tornadoes at a low can't be linked successfully to global warming because it has no chance at persuading people to do something about it.

Birkel म्हणाले...

The way I read this story, Trump's CAGW is causing sales losses to the mobile home industry.
This hurts poor and middle class midwestern white folks.

(It's a stretch but no worse than what WaPo and NYT offer.)

Jaq म्हणाले...

Remember when the models predicted a drop if F5 tornadoes?

Neither do I. But I do remember a course I took in probabilities and statistics that suggested that even improbable outcomes were possible just by random chance and so it was impossible to read much of anything into single instances like this, but wouldn’t it be terrible if F5’s went away!

I think it was just last year when the same people were laughing at the Trump supporting deniers getting hit by these same storms.

On Monday, Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) used the devastating Oklahoma tornado as an excuse to bash Republicans for denying global warming and implied Republicans were responsible for actually allowing the destructive natural disaster to occur.

“So, you may have a question for me,” Whitehouse said on the Senate floor. “Why do you care? Why do you, Sheldon Whitehouse, Democrat of Rhode Island, care if we Republicans run off the climate cliff like a bunch of proverbial lemmings and disgrace ourselves? I’ll tell you why. We’re stuck in this together. We are stuck in this together.”

No one said there were no tornadoes this year. They said there were no EF-4 or EF-5 tornadoes. What was the rating on your 45-mile-wide tornado? If it was EF-3 or less, then your comment is ridiculous.

However, tornadoes at a low can't be linked successfully to global warming

Why not? A decrease in the Pole-Equator temperature gradient that occurs as the Globe Warms means weaker westerlies, means less vertical wind shear, means less likelihood of supercellular thunderstorms.

However, if more tornadoes result, it'll be because the low-levels have warmed and increased convective available potential energy for the developing thunderstorms.

Easy!

If it came off the Gulf, it would be a hurricane, not a tornado.

I read accounts like Gretchen's at 10:06am, about the devastation wrought by Obamacare, and I wonder: so where is all that extra money *going*? Double the premiums, for fewer covered individuals, and smaller payouts because of the enormously-increased deductibles.... *somebody* is cleaning up here financially, but it sure as heck isn't the average insured American.
