I think we've got a confrontation between 2 individuals whose lives got launched within lovely economic advantage. Both of them, as far as I can tell, are life-long elite. The dispute is deeply (and shallowly!) gendered.
I say "deeply" because — whatever happened between these 2 young people — we need to contemplate how the subordination of women can happen and the psychological burdens that arise out of the complexities of sex and the fear of violence.
I say "shallowly" because there is a political, partisan game going on, and the serious questions are getting appropriated and exploited for political power.
I'd like feminism to operate independently: I'm a believer in the separation of feminism from partisan politics. But I don't expect the world to arrange itself around my belief. So I'm just an observer and a writer in a style I call "cruel neutrality." I've been writing about the gender politics of the Blasey/Kavanaugh matter. And I'd add class politics, because we're dealing with the elite and the political community reacting to and serving the needs of the elite.
But to drag in racial politics when everyone is white is blatant confusion and misappropriation of racial problems, which are important on their own and don't deserve to be tossed in with every other problem.
I'm reading, "Joy Behar Accuses 'White Men' on Senate Judiciary Committee of Protecting 'Probably Guilty' Kavanaugh" (IJR): "These white men, old by the way, are not protecting women... They're protecting a man who is probably guilty."
I know, she also said "old" and "probably guilty." Maybe Behar prefers a shotgun approach. Something might hit.
Is it just Behar? The Free Beacon presents it as a standard talking point: "MSNBC and CNN anchors and reporters are fixating on the optics of Republican 'white men' on the the Senate Judiciary Committee publicly questioning a woman who has accused Supreme Court justice nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault." Many examples at that link ("Once again, it will be all white men on the Republican side of the Judiciary Committee...," "It is a lineup of white guys over the age of 50," "Are these Republican white men essentially going to ask her if she's telling the truth?," "worst-case scenario for a bunch of white men...," "a bunch of white men once again defending another white man"). The woman is white, and white men have been defending white women for a good long time, often to the disadvantage of black men.
This is a despicable talking point, deliberately and eagerly inciting racial discord over something that isn't racial. Why not spend a little less time on this one news story and forefront some stories that really are about race? I'm sure we haven't run out of them.

Yep.
That people are willing to sacrifice core beliefs of justice for such an underwhelming -- I would say undeserving --example of their favored issue brings to mind Johnny Rotten's famous quote at the end of the last Sex Pistols concert at the Winterland 1978:

Although it would need to be reworded as:

"-whatever happened between these 2 young people-"
Nothing happened. Even if her claim is true, which so far it is not. All she even claims is that a drunk guy rolled around with her on a bed for a few seconds completely clothed with a bathing suit under other clothes. If that's rape, I've raped and been raped many times by friends and family, but again even that didn't happen according to the evidence presented.

Intimidating political opponents is destructive to democracy. She has rights, too.
I'm fine with her testifying to the Senate, and the Senators voting their conscience/political advantage. The buck stops with them. But she can't make a criminal charge without giving the nominee a chance to confront her.

You see what has happened? Everyone - haters and defenders alike are already talking as if he did the thing, with no proof. This is exactly the pernicious intent of these Democrats' standard operating last minute claims. They have been doing this for years all across the country. Gloria already made her name with the tactic in California by changing elections more than once with just such a claim, launched too late to refute, and quickly abandoned after the political goal is accomplished. This is not about women or sex at all. It's about political gamesmanship, and people falling for it are suckers.

Gahrie, if it helps, I'm responding to a specific comment:
"There is a strain of feminism that seeks to unite women by demonizing men."
It's called "feminism."
All I did was point out that I can easily name women who do not demonize men, who consider themselves to be feminists. This isn't about sides. It's about facts, and a specific response to a specific comment.
I may be misunderstanding Lazlo, but it seems he is denying their feminism (which is fine - he is free to do so, though generally people outside a movement don't generally get to speak for the movement).
..Sommers is a “feminist” paid to be the anti-feminist front the way a few “scientists” are paid to be the anti climate-change front. She’s a relatively unimportant pr woman, since feminism is not the greatest threat to billionaires, the way re-evaluating the plunder of the earth’s resources obviously is. But she was hired, and is now paid, to make these videos. AEI sponsors them. It’s reasonable to assume that AEI also provides the technological assistance necessary to get them out there, the marketing assistance to get Sommers’ name in the papers as the face of the anti-feminist movement, and possibly the events arrangers for her to give speeches and otherwise be given credibility as a “national expert.”...
So, she is obviously NOT a feminist.
Perhaps his point is that Hoff Sommers doesn't actually consider herself to be a feminist, but claims to be for tactical/rhetorical advantage (the so-called principled critique from inside the tent)?

"The homeless man's Jesse Jackson" is mere "criticism"? Day in and day out? From Day One before I'd even had the chance to say "Hello"? Like I said, "white" people are unfair - and have no desire to be otherwise.
"Note the implicit assumption in the larger context also....Those who disagree with him on even a tiny fraction of his positions (or perhaps those of any black) are guilty of lynching and are therefore racist."
The only issue we've disagreed about is reparations - I'm talking about the mere mention of the idea - so what are you doing but lying?
"Maybe there are pathetically insecure people who can be silenced and cowed by this idiotic assertion but it seems likely all such people would be afraid to express their positions in the first place."

Part 2 - Yes, you have been treated badly since you came back. I don't really get it. Dr. Blasey Ford did not file a Police Report about the event.
Dr. Blasey Ford did not even tell anybody about the event at the time, first telling her therapist about it in 2012.
Dr. Blasey Ford has not given her story on tv
If Dr. Blasey Ford won't testify Monday, then at a minimum she must sign a sworn affadavit about the event, under penalty of perjury. Her attorney can help her write/edit it, but it must be sworn under penalty of perjury.
If she won't do this bare minimum, you can safely conclude that she is a liar and fraud.
I was taught that accusing is often a sin. I feel bad for those who were not.
I lied.
A former classmate of Christine Blasey Ford tells NPR that she does not know if an alleged sexual assault by Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh took place as she first suggested on social media.
"That it happened or not, I have no idea," Cristina King Miranda told NPR's Nina Totenberg. "I can't say that it did or didn't."
That's different from what Miranda wrote Wednesday in a now-deleted Facebook post that stated definitively, "The incident DID happen, many of us heard about it in school."
This is the letter, posted on Facebook, from a woman who knew Kavanaugh, Judge and Blasey Ford and claims that the attack did happen, that "many of us heard about it in school," and that it was talked about for days afterward.
The FBI should interview her and others.
"In my [Facebook] post, I was empowered and I was sure it probably did [happen]," Miranda told NPR. "I had no idea that I would now have to go to the specifics and defend it before 50 cable channels and have my face spread all over MSNBC news and Twitter."

When I try to imagine what the faculty lounge at UW Law School is like, I imagine almost all whites from rich or upper middle class families, with the women all bleating about feminist oppression and most or all of the men gay and bleating about their oppression.
And everybody constantly bitching and stabbing one another in the back over who's the most oppressed.
Some of the richest, most privileged people in the world constantly bitching about oppression, while they enjoy a high paid government job with lifetime security, with summers off.
I've been in law firms in NYC where this is going on. It's sick shit.

Sure, but it was a charge - they didn't bring their persecution on themselves - it was put on them.
"These white men, old by the way, are not protecting women... They're protecting a man who is probably guilty."
She's speaking to her constituency, defining "the other" so the two-minute hate can begin.
White: not you.
Men: not you.
Old: not you.
Probably guilty: not you.
Unless you're a white, old, guilty man, you must think this whole thing is an affront to all that is decent.
And note she's describing the Senators in terms of the Candidate himself, such that the hatred you feel must be equally directed at Grassley and Kavanaugh.
"...I get piled-on here,"
Compared to some others here, you are handled like a favorite son, despite the open racism. If you were white, you might get the top position. See, that's white privilege.

I can't think of a controversy in my lifetime that has made me as furious as this one. Your comment pretty much summarizes my objection to some of the below the belt tactics deployed in defense of Ms. Ford.
Societies don't defend the rule of law (or seek "justice") by violating it in every orifice.
So to speak :p
Maybe something happened to her. I will even concede it's possible that she's telling the truth here (though her own actions make me doubt that - strongly). But I won't blindly assume she's telling the truth, because that's just nuts. No one's entitled to be automatically believed, especially when they accuse others of wrongdoing.
The only issue we've disagreed about is reparations
Untrue. We disagree that your racism is acceptable. But it's interesting that you're now minimizing the disagreement while still asserting it amounts to a "lynching". You seem confused that I am overreacting when it is in fact your own position that disagreement over the single issue amounts to "lynching" which proves racism.
You'll rationalize anything, anyway, to make your crumbling ego stand up a little straighter as everyone else starts to dance, listen to non-Rock music, make movies about other people, and basically forget all the hardship you've wanted to dish out on a daily basis since your dumb asses self-selected for being suckers and came here looking for gold in Virginia.
All meaningless blather to distract from your nonsense.
"In my [Facebook] post, I was empowered and I was sure it probably did [happen]," Miranda told NPR. "I had no idea that I would now have to go to the specifics and defend it before 50 cable channels and have my face spread all over MSNBC news and Twitter."
Translation: I was empowered, and likely drunk too. I thought I could just make up shit about some guy I never knew, and post it on the internet so that I can get some vicarious fame too!!
What? Now you want to hold me accountable!! And prove my slanderous lie? Unfair. I am being suppressed!!!!
This is why feminists have a bad rep.
This is really a fight between Christians and anti-Christians. To tarnish Kavanaugh, Democrats had to come up with something that might make some of his Christian supporters question his morality.
This is just as much about the midterms as it is about the Supreme Court.
Kavanaugh could probably win this going away with a statement based on his Christian beliefs. A statement that he never did such a thing in his life, did not do anything to Dr Ford, and if he had ever done such a thing, his Christian beliefs would not have allowed him to be a judge passing judgment on others.

Trying to find a way to blame me for the racism of "white" men isn't going to work, DBQ. If I have to defend the tiki torch carriers in Charlottesville and Trump saying "there are good people on both sides" - and I have - then, at some point, y'all are going to HAVE to see past your bullshit to see your adversaries as people, too. We're either trying to build a nation, or trying to take scalps. And the demographics are still changing.
We'll be happy to collect "white" ones if that's still the game y'all playing going forward.

A rule of thumb for me on Althouse's blog:

Thanks for asking for clarification. Sometimes 'dry' doesn't come across in my writing.
I consider Hoff Sommers to be a feminist: if I were to use Althouse vernacular, I would consider her feminism to exhibit 'cruel neutrality.'
I was responding to your writing "I wouldn't describe Carrie Lukas, Christina Hoff Summers, or Camille Paglia as feminists who demonize men": I certainly do not see them as demonizing men, but I DO see many current feminists demonizing THEM.
I was cut-and-pasting a representative sample of such to show that many feminists of today can easily disavow another woman's feminism if they do not agree with it.
And I would like to think at least some feminists today see something wrong with the vagarities of Ford's accusation and the unquestioning acceptance of it by many.
Hopefully that is a little clearer - thanks for giving me the opportunity to clarify.

It's just you and me looking at what happened.
You're the one who's still keeping the competition - which I didn't sign up for - going.
I would guess that 99.99% of black African slaves were first sold to Arabs or white slavers by other black Africans. Plus, slavery was a very normal condition for much of the past EVERYWHERE. I doubtless have slaves and slavers in my ancestry from Europe all by itself, without involving Africa in the least. In Zanzibar, I asked a tour guide at the slave market how the East Africans could possibly blame whites, as their scene was all about the Arab slave markets. HIs explanation was that yes, they had practiced slavery from time immemorial, but it was the advent of plantations in the New World that drove the market up. Commerce man, it's a bitch. By the way, I didn't sign up for it either. I do think it is fair to talk about group behaviors, but unreasonable to be prejudiced against a person based on groups of which they are involuntarily a member. My least favorite ethnic group is white hillbillies from Arkansas. Scariest people on the planet, to my mind.

Victorian times in England, women were suppressed by societal rules and this was considered normal.
This is like the ultimate dichotomy I often see. In Victorian times, women were suppressed. In Victorian times- Queen Victoria, head of government for the United Kingdom. Empress of India in 1876. Reigned for 63 years and a bit as one of the most powerful rulers in the world. Queen Victoria, not King. A woman.
Upper class women were no more suppressed during Victorian times then they are now. Their roles were different, but they weren't suppressed. And women today complaining they're suppressed? Yeah, right. Jobs I've never seen a woman do: Pump a septic tank. Man a garbage truck. Lay concrete. Roof a house. Be a licensed wastewater treatment plant operator. And a few other similar tasks. Not to say there isn't somewhere a woman doing those jobs. But they're the rare exception, not the rule. And in some jobs, like firefighters and police, rules have been changed so women can qualify. And even the changed rules have been ignored so women could be hired. And even then, few women choose to enter these fields. And it's their choice, not some societal oppression going on.

Maybe you or some other poster could tell me if the letter presented to the Congress woman that was then handed off to DiFi, was penned and signed by Ford? The wording of the orginal reporting on this implied that a third party penned the letter on Fords behalf. Meaning that Ford has yet to legally, put her name on the accusation.which would insulate her from libel. This along with the fact that DiFi has refused to give an un-redacted copy of the letter to the chairman and the Republican staff of the Judiciary Committee, makes the very genesis of this theater act suspect.

It's hard for me to know what feminists think (I find myself almost reflexively hostile to seeing life through the prism of sex or gender -- so much so that it probably clouds my judgment). The only way I know to deal with the pain of mutual misunderstandings and recriminations between men and women is to try and put aside my own emotions and see people as individuals first and men/women/self-identified transgender Arctic wolves last.

(2) The pile-on is not caused by your advocacy for reparations but for the insistence that anyone opposed - or who disagree with you in any other way - is a racist.
We can understand your dishonesty by noting you characterize your own contribution as a simple "mention" of reparations. A more accurate characterization would be as an obsession which you combine with the offensive and wrong belief that all opposition to your opinions prove racism.
You also reveal your racism by claiming whites citing facts you prefer not to mention is proof of their racism. In fact your insistence that speaking rights are determined by race is proof of your own racism.

"Compared to some others here, you are handled like a favorite son, despite the open racism."
If your type hadn't started in on me, race would probably be limited to an occasional mention about some news item or something (Look at my own blog and how often race comes up: hardly at all) but - as an old schooler, on this blog, pointed out - I made a pledge years ago, to make you fools eat racism if that's what you want, so that's what you get. I'll stop when you do.
But, as long as you keep insisting it's me - when Ann, Meade, and everybody treating me like a favored son because they're NOT in the "white" clique - knows it's you, I'll try to match you insult for insult until you get the message. Which I don't think you will, because - honestly - you're not too bright. You have to be the winner - as Shouting Thomas said, you're competing - and that's your weakness:
"Whites" literally bred us to be stronger than than they are.
The rest of us just live our lives and are in favor of everyone living a good life.
Inga apparently believes kicking a man out of school because his hookup's mother was angry she had sex is a good time for everyone. I'm not clear on whether this means she thinks Drew had a good time having his life ruined or if college men aren't included in "everyone".

"Untrue. We disagree that your racism is acceptable."
So the fact I was piled-on before I said a word here doesn't matter? The fact it's been pointed out - by others - that it's happening, doesn't matter? And, the fact it's been pointed out - repeatedly - that I'm executing a strategy for dealing with racists here - doesn't matter? As far as you're concerned, all of that can be swept aside because - ha! - you want to make me out to be the racist, right? You're mad. And a fine example of white blacks hate "white" men.
"But it's interesting that you're now minimizing the disagreement while still asserting it amounts to a "lynching"."
This man is insane.
"All meaningless blather to distract from your nonsense."
And you're coming into a film - years after it started - sure the hero did something wrong because he's the one making all the violent headway at the end.

What the Hell kind of parents would send kids to a school like this?
John Henry
The parents who go on trips and leave teenagers alone. A friend of mine who lived in Irvine, an upscale Orange County city, had a daughter who became an alcoholic at 14. The kids came from homes where both parents worked and they would go to a home where no adult was around and drink after school. His wife did not need to work but, no doubt to feel "empowered" worked part time at the Bar Association local branch.
He is a nice guy who I haven't seen in years. I really liked his wife who was a great woman but had very bad luck with their kids.
The older son was in a car crash and became a quadriplegic. The girl driving the car said he was the driver and her parents sued my friends. They were in despair about the two tragedies. Then they got a high powered trial lawyer, a local Democrat politician but a competent one. He proved the girl had been driving, sued her family and got a huge settlement, probably larger because of the lies.
Anyway, the wife eventually committed suicide and a year later the daughter did, too. The quadraplegic son died before his mother.
Moral, if any ? Girls get into more trouble than they used to and homes with no mother contribute.

Bullshit. You're nothing more than a bunch of totalitarian thugs.
@Crack - Ummm... yes, your freedom WAS supported at the ballot box - it’s why we have the Republican Party. I appreciate your continued efforts to explain yourself here to a generally unsympathetic audience. It takes a lot of effort. I think you would be an interesting fellow to meet in person.

"(1) Criticism is not harassment."
"The homeless Jesse Jackson" is not criticism. "The unsuccessful agitator" is not criticism. I have said, repeatedly, I am an artist and nothing more - I'm still attacked as a race-baiting BLM member with a chip on his shoulder. I did a song - with Malcolm X telling blacks to question the Democrat party - I got attacked. I do a blog - there's no racism on it - I get attacked there, too.
You guys don't even have an idea of what racism is or how racist you are. You're just vile.
"(2) The pile-on is not caused by your advocacy for reparations but for the insistence that anyone opposed - or who disagree with you in any other way - is a racist."
I never said that, and you're going to have to weigh that claim against my words, my friends here, the fact I've been married to a white woman, have white friends, joined the Republicans in 2004, defended John McCain when he died and like Trump. If you can square all off that, with what you're saying, I'll gladly say you're right. But, if not, you're a lowlife human being for attacking and smearing someone innocent without all the info necessary to make a good judgment.
"We can understand your dishonesty by noting you characterize your own contribution as a simple "mention" of reparations. A more accurate characterization would be as an obsession which you combine with the offensive and wrong belief that all opposition to your opinions prove racism."
I say again: There's a strategy being employed. You don't understand the strategy? Well, does that make you a fool for not asking, or a racist for attacking a black man for defending himself?
"You also reveal your racism by claiming whites citing facts you prefer not to mention is proof of their racism. In fact your insistence that speaking rights are determined by race is proof of your own racism."
I've got a blog - I didn't vote for Obama - and I'm known here by more people than you, including the hostess.
I think you're going to lose this debate. Now - as I requested - square the fact I've been married to a white woman, have white friends, joined the Republicans in 2004, defended John McCain when he died and like Trump with the picture of me you're trying to sell - to me (which is crazy). I'll wait.
tcrosse: "So this blog is In The Heat of the Night and Crack is Sidney Poitier."
Hardly. Mr Virgil Tibbs was an educated and accomplished professional.
Crack, you are absolutely right that Africa did not promise that all men are created equal and then fail to deliver. For a time. But America, yours and mine, freed more slaves than Africa ever did, and has today provided more equality than Africa has. It was a pretty ugly process, but from my perspective in 2018 it is not wrong to praise our Declaration of Independence. Rousseau said "Man is born free, and he is everywhere in chains." There is more work to be done.
IT IS OFFICIAL BLACK PEOPLE HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH AFRICA OR SLAVERY!!!
Lol.
There was Crack, just minding his own business and calling for mass murder and genocide against all whites when out of the blue some criticism was directed his way.
He was framed! Framed I tellya!
So the fact I was piled-on before I said a word here doesn't matter?
It's impossible to pile on before you say a word. Presumably what you mean is that you think people responded disproportionately. But since your initial comments accused everyone who disagreed with you of racism you pretty much went to 11 the first second you were back. The idea that people aren't responding to your own comments is your own mythmaking. Everyone's a hero in their own story.
I'm executing a strategy for dealing with racists here - doesn't matter?
#Metoo!
you want to make me out to be the racist, right?
You are a racist. I referenced your racist comments including your position that whites cannot mention facts about voting patterns which you prefer weren't made. You position is so obviously racist you're changing the subject to distract attention.
And you're coming into a film - years after it started
Whoops, you contradicted yourself. You previously claimed this reaction all started from scratch but now you're admitting you carried your beliefs over from last time.

Now, according to the "white" folks on this blog, that didn't happen because A) I'm homeless and unsuccessful so (obviously) I don't have friends, much less rich ones, and B) being racist, me and a black friend wouldn't be laughing together over Mark Dice because WE'RE RACISTS WHO HATE WHITE PEOPLE - and not just the "white" ones who harass me on the Althouse blog for their own imaginary reasons and amusement.
My life is TOTALLY different than what "white" men, here, create in their minds - but that's true for blacks, almost everywhere, I gather.
The Crack Emcee said... rhhardin said... "East Asians are smarter than whites on the same tests."
Yeah, but only racists are concerned about it.
Good word usage there. The Afrikaners, who I recently spent 3 months with, are the purest racists I’ve encountered in years of travel, but the least concerned about what they believed were the differences. Zero concern, until the demographics changed, After several hundred years of experience they say they have an understanding of exactly what the racial differences are in intelligence, work ethic and temperament and built a working society around that. Roles.
In a popular bar Afrikaners and blacks mix well and love to get in long drawn out conversations, an African thing. Outwardly you’d think they were the best of friends. But the first time I took my black girlfriend into a bar, I was shunned by the whites like I had the plague. There is zero tolerance for mixed relationships. A white girl who dates a black guy will lose her friends, family and job. Because in their opinion the blacks are a fundamentally different type of sapien. It’s an important point to know though, the large majority of Afrikaners do not hate or even dislike blacks.
The Chinese, for example, if they could somehow dominate, would be much the same. They would have us in what they see as our subservient roles and through power not be concerned. But they’d be crueler.
Racism is everywhere out here. Every country. Sometimes there’s functional resolution, sometimes not.
All that is just an interpretation from observation, could be wrong.
@crack
Like rhhardin, and his obsession with IQs, only "whites" are concerned about such things:
If a white guy fails the fire department lieutenant's exam because his IQ is low, should the standards be lowered?
Why is it different for blacks.
Sometimes Crack gets so furiously busy assigning beliefs and blame to others he almost doesnt have sufficient time to post his complaints about others he asserts are assigning beliefs and guilt to him.

As the 11 Republican men on the Senate Judiciary Committee rally behind Kavanaugh and refuse to honor his accuser's call for an FBI investigation, women from across the U.S. took to social media on Wednesday to show solidarity with Ford, thank her for bravely telling her story, and pressure senators to put Kavanaugh's confirmation process on hold until a full probe is conducted.
"We applaud your courage in coming forward for the public good, and we will be with you as you face the inevitable backlash," women's rights activists and celebrities declared in a viral video accompanied by the hashtag #DearProfessorFord.
"As members of the Senate determine whether Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh should serve as a Supreme Court Justice, this context is critical," the women continued. Nope. I'm a black who was just convinced to leave the Republicans after 14 years. Unless you understand the Civil Rights Movement, what I'm doing will probably be a mystery, but I'm for whatever moves America in a pro-justice direction. That always seems to equate to totalitarianism, in "white" minds, for some reason - even when they know their obstanance offers no alternatives. To ask someone to do that is, itself, an ethical breech - but that's never stopped "white" Americans before, unfortunately.

And the short answer is that smart people believe weird things because they’re really good at rationalizing beliefs they’ve arrived at for non-smart reasons. Which is to say that all of us form our beliefs for a variety of reasons. Evidence is usually low on the list. There are social, cultural, family reasons, personal reasons, emotional reasons, we’re raised to believe this, or it had some influence on me when I was young, or it was a teacher, or a particular book, or something leads you to a belief system… and then you go about justifying and rationalizing the belief for a whole bunch of apparently rational reasons. But of course as we mentioned before, this is confirmation bias at work, and smart people, educated people, are even better at finding clever arguments and reasons than non-smart, non-educated people."

Obama put two far left judges on the Supreme court, and he did it with plenty of Republican votes. 23 Republicans voted to confirm Sotomayor. 5 voted to confirm Kagan. This honesty is so refreshing here!"
Maybe you can provide us a couple of examples.
If democrats cared about sexual abuse why do they stand by so many sexual abusers? Even a guy who drove a woman into a ditch under a bridge and left her to die get the senator for life award from the left. Bill Clinton and his loonye tunes wife still get a pass. They still get to run for office and run it all on a private server without a care at all from the Joy Behar left.
Even if this lying crazy leftwing elitist liar is even half true - drunken clumsy move on a bed while a teenager in High school doens't even come close to the level of a Bill Clinton.
Her saying that "He almost killed me" is laughable - OK - why didn't she say something or call the cops?
We all know it's a hail mary pass to delay a life-time appointment on the SC.
Keith Ellison's accuser is VERY credible. Keith is running for high office in NutjobLandia. (Minnesota)
we need to contemplate how the subordination of women can happen and the psychological burdens that arise out of the complexities of sex and the fear of violence.
The Whore of Amazon once again demands that we understand why women must be protected while being encouraged to dominate men in all endeavors. Protected by ... whom?
@Crack - I enormously admire your energy. A lesser man would not have come back or mounted such a vigorous defense. From now on, we will count history as beginning in 1530. I am good with that. It does leave out the fall of Constantinople, but OK. Do you insist on reparations? Or will you consider repatriation? I worry that you will never feel good about yourself here - and I would prefer that you feel good.
Now the real fun begins, although perhaps I missed a report of this elsewhere: Amy 'Tiger Mom' Chua counselled prospective Kavanaugh clerks at Yale to 'exude a "model-like" femininity'. According to sources, at the Guardian. Judge Kavanaugh should have preferred Goths as clerks, I suppose (are Goths still a thing?).

Yeah, that is not true, and Amy is i hospital and unable to respond.
Hillary Clinton and Rachel Maddow can exchange lunatic proggy BS - and Rachel Maddow has no clue how ridiculous she looks while she sits and talks to the woman who slut-shamed all of Bill's accusers.
Emcee, any thoughts on the Africans we have been trying to force to stop enslaving their brethren, not as successfully as we would hope.
Yep, woman who claimed she'd heard about Kavanaugh attacking Ford recants and admits she lied.
Cristina King Miranda says she felt "Empowered" - this from an NPR interview with Cristina. Moreover, from an interview with the NY Times, Christine Blasey Ford asked her best friend if she had ever mentioned a sexaul assault to her, and her best friend, Ms. Piwowarski, answered "no". Ms. Ford seems to have a lot of problems with her memories.
Given her track record...are we sure she got death threats?
Itd be bad if she did for sure...but, uh, her track record aint stellar.
OK, what's new? Now that Ms. Miranda admitted lying about Ford and Kavanaugh, we know that women lie about rape and yes, men commit rape. Are we to believe unquestioned Ms. Ford's accusation. Lawyers posting - do we now dispense with "innocent until proven guilty" in our culture.
FROM NEW YORK TIMES:
The text message from Christine Blasey Ford this summer worried her college best friend, Catherine Piwowarski.
Over their years of friendship — as roommates, bridesmaids and parents on opposite coasts — Dr. Blasey wanted to know, had she ever confided that she had been sexually assaulted in high school?
No, Ms. Piwowarski said she texted back, she would have remembered that, and was everything O.K.? Dr. Blasey didn’t want to speak in detail quite yet, her friend recalled her responding. “I don’t know why she was asking that or what it ultimately meant or didn’t mean,” Ms. Piwowarski said in an interview, but she remembers thinking that the question betrayed deep turmoil.
LOL - what a joke
Francisco,
I do not ixentify as hispanic, of any sort. It is a made up bullshit word and idea with no meaningful definition.
I identify as "Puerto Rican". I identify as Puerto Rican no by ancestry but by nearly 50 years here. All my life, friends, family, education, career, property, investments, whatever is here.
I think that gives me the right to identify as Puerto Rican. More right, I would say, than Bruce Jenner has to identify as a woman.
So, "white Puerto Rican" if you are so inclined. Most are. White hispanic? Not me.

@ John Henry - I identify as an asshole.

Now at 1940 in the de Gaulle bio and lots of interesting byplay. The Dreyfus affair is what we are seeing with Trump;
I wonder if we will lose a war ?

That's not true. Wasn't he part of that study where they taught him to communicate using sign language. Oh wait a minute....that was Koko.
Nevermind.

The Julian Jackson bio, which is pretty good.
I may even study up on my French.
On racism, depends what the definition is.
Not sure why Crack left the GOP, Trump is revitalizing the party.
A huge civil rights positive is jobs in the Black and legal Latino communities.
If Trump can fix immigration, it will help the US Blacks economically a lot.
With the increase in mixed race kids, Latino assimilation, and overall its dramatically changing race relations in the US. Dems are ignoring this, GOP is living it, and Trump sees it.

"Its really quite amusing to read his ccontinuous self-praise of his own self-assessed capabilities."
I can show you articles with other people saying it - do they count? Or is your racist assessment all that matters? A book was written by someone (that was sold in Barnes & Noble's) that says I have more integrity than almost anyone else in America.
What you got, Drago, other than a mouth that I bet stays real quiet around black crowds?

"Demonstrably untrue, and it's lazily uninformed to not know it's untrue."
bagoh20 disagrees. That settles it. No evidence of any kind. He speaks, it is done.

Black history starts in 1619.

Just that "white" people think about Africa way too much to keep claiming their not racist. No one can believe it. I'm black and I don't think of Africa hardly at all, but you "white" guys?
Thinking about Africa is your daily operation.

Take bagoh20, Drago, and Gahrie - put their photos in the dictionary under it.
"Not sure why Crack left the GOP, Trump is revitalizing the party."
No, Trump is his own party - the GOP is a sick elephant that will die as soon as Trump is done. No one wants these people.
"A huge civil rights positive is jobs in the Black and legal Latino communities."
That is not a civil rights positive - that's what was supposed to happen normally.
"If Trump can fix immigration, it will help the US Blacks economically a lot."
You guys have no idea what's happening.
"With the increase in mixed race kids, Latino assimilation, and overall its dramatically changing race relations in the US."
Somebody believes the pictures on the TV. Ask blacks what we think - oh, wait, you are! - and the picture is very different.
"Dems are ignoring this, GOP is living it, and Trump sees it."
You're delusional. The GOP has a race problem - Mitt Romney announced it in 2012 - that it ignores, and the "white" people here exemplify it.
The GOP is dead without Trump because of them.
First modern Britons had 'dark to black' skin, Cheddar Man DNA analysis reveals
This might be where "white" insecurity springs from. It was Paul Mooney who said "white" people only like to look at their family tree because, if they shake it, "a nigga will fall out." It's little wonder how Richard Pryor turned out to be the world's greatest stand-up, with "white" men competing against a people with only an 86 IQ, when having that kind of writing behind him. They put their two black heads together and made an IQ of,...something. Something big. Something big, and black, and attractive to white women. White women in the GOP wearing hairnets - and stockings that come to the knee - talking about Jesus.
They're worth putting up a vigorous defense for.
