I almost don't care in the slightest about the Emmys, and I barely watch any TV "shows"...

... but 2 of the things that I actually watched this past year won. There's RuPaul (for best reality show), seen here in a press conference after winning, and displaying great moderating and marketing expertise as well as a nice Statue-of-Liberty suit and bright orange shoes:

And "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" won for best comedy, best comedy actress, and best comedy supporting actress. Here's Rachel Brosnahan picking up the best actress award:

Don't know why I picked 2 shows that those who watched all the shows picked, because those are about the only current shows I watched.

Vote? Go to the polls and bring a friend? Yah, OK. I Will!

(I don't think I'm what she had in mind...)

Just another institution built by capitalism and a common culture that has been infested and destroyed by leftists who hate the freedom they don’t deserve and want to ruin for others.

The people who sucked Les Moonves dick for 30 years giving themselves awards. Burn, Hollywood, Burn

TeeVee. Not interested in anything Hillarywood cultland is preaching.

I quite liked what I saw of “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.” The other one I’ve barely seen, but everyone I know raves about it.

There was an Alec Guinness movie about a man with a glowing suit that never needed cleaning or wore out, or something like that.

The gown reminded me of Miss Melba from Gasoline Alley always pulling up a shoulder of her blouse.

RuPaul is proof women have a sense of humor.

I enjoy “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” for the backdrop of late 1950s New York. It looks great, and the interpersonal stories are good. Oddly though, the story of her stand-up comedy act doesn't really work for me. She's supposed to be a natural talent, but I don't see it. Comedy is hard.

What little TeeVee I watch, and it's mostly sunday night PBS, is all about gay male sex and all the preaching that goes into gay male sex.

Whoopee...
Don't mistake a couple shows you watched winning Emmy Awards as some grand affirmation of your good taste in television viewing.
Oh sorry... I forgot. All Althouse's habits are good habits - by definition.

I won't be watching RuPaul anytime soon, but I did see Mrs. Maisel. I enjoyed it, but some of it is a crock. Lenny Bruce is portrayed as the patron saint of comedy. He's pure and genuine and, in the focused way Keats tried to create the perfect sonnet, he tried to perfect the perfect stand up act. He would never make a move on Mrs. Maisel in her moment of need because she, like him, is a pilgrim worshipping at the shrine of the perfect set. Ditto with her lesbian manager. Only heteros not committed to art are capable of #metoo behavior........Now that the Church has fallen into disfavor, thank God we have Hollywood and comedians to point out the flaws in our behavior.

Mrs. Maisel is okay, but it's no Game of Thrones.

I'm still waiting for MLB Post Season.

TV watching in the old days was easy. You just waited till the TV shows got into syndication. If it wasn't syndicated, it probably wasn't very good.

Today, you got TV all over the place. Netflix, Amazon, BBC, Network TV, Cable TV.

95% of its crap, as usual.

Last time I watched the Emmmy's - 1983, with my parents.

"95% of its crap, as usual." Well, yes, but there's so...much...of...it now that the sheer volume of "not crap" is overwhelming. Television is more like books now in that the number of shows that are worth your time far exceeds the amount of time available. It also means there are crazy oddball shows like Patriot or Lodge 49 that seem made just for me and that I can't imagine appeal to more than about 20 other Americans.

I don't watch much TV in general and when I do it's either Netflix, Amazon or HBO GO. The award shows are just Lefty bore-fests and just piss me off. If I watch them then I won't watch the shows so I skip the award shows. I'm sure the actors and producers of the shows prefer that I watch the shows instead of the award shows.

If an asteroid hit the building the Emmys were hosted in, maybe I would watch the replay. The world would be an infinetly better place if all of those disgusting hollywood lefty pieces of shit were incinerated by a rock from space.

I started watching Mrs Maisel but I found the language so out of sync with the time of the action. It felt like we were applying '90's (and onward sensibilities) to a different time. Its not that I was offended by the language its just that I remember in the early 60's (even as a young kid) that saying the word "fuck" was a dramatic event.

Yes this is New York and supposed much more hip but it just seemed a bit over the top. I would say that I really enjoyed Tony Shaloub in the series.

Finally, its amazing how few nominees were from traditional network TV. When do folks on Youtube get to be nominated?

I was surprised that there wasn’t a single nomination for Cobra Kai considering all of the positive buzz that it received (and deserved).

Jim Gust म्हणाले...

As someone wrote elsewhere, this was a 3-hour infomercial for the competition to the traditional networks. Why do the networks broadcast it anymore?

The ratings apparently fell to a record low.

dustbunny म्हणाले...

The Americans was the best series on tv since Breaking Bad ended. I got bored by Mrs Maisel after a few episodes but may try it again.

William म्हणाले...

Why would anyone watch an award show. The nip slips, elegant gowns, and moving speeches will be shown in clips the next day. Beyond this, who cares who won?

rhhardin म्हणाले...

The shoulder strap trick is to get you to watch for a nipple exposure.

rhhardin म्हणाले...

Veep is good, six seasons on DVD. You won't regret it.

Known Unknown म्हणाले...

My only issue with Ms. Maisel is her lack of real obstacles to overcome. (Until the SPOILER ALERT: Divorce)

She seemed to gloss over most of the issues put before her. The character seems a bit too well-adjusted to her life changes.

Emmy for a reality show, won by the fashionista cross dressers, huh?
Viewers for Ru Paul's season finale was about 859,000 viewers.
Viewers for "Fixer Upper" season finale :about 5,210,000 viewers.

I like ship lathe.
