At the All-Male Café...

Only men eating lunch at Graze today

... no reason it has to stay all-male. Everyone can hang out here.

And everyone can use the Althouse Portal to Amazon.

Song lyrics by Elisse Boyd (1952 - )
-----

Guess Who I Saw Today

You're so late
Getting home from the office.

Did you miss your train?
Were you caught in the rain?
No, don't bother to explain.

Can I fix you a quick martini?

As a matter of fact,
I'll have one with you.
For -- to tell you the truth --
I've had quite a day too.

Guess who I saw today, my dear!

I went in town
To shop around
For something new
And thought I'd stop
And have a bite
When I was through.

I looked around
For someplace near,

And it occurred to me --
Where I had parked the car,
There is a most attractive
French cafe and bar.
It really wasn't very far.

The waiter showed me
To a dark, secluded corner.

When my eyes
Became accustomed
To the gloom,

I saw two people at the bar
Who were so much in love,
That even I could spot it
Clear across the room.

Guess who I saw today, my dear?

I've never been so shocked before.
I headed blindly for the door.
They didn't see me
Passing through.

Guess who I saw today?

I saw you!

Here are key dates in 2016.

April 29 -- DNC becomes aware that its server is penetrated

May 5 -- CrowdStrike begins special monitoring of the DNC

May 25 -- Seth Rich downloads files from DNC server

June 12 -- Julian Assange announces that he soon will release DNC files

June 14 -- Washington Post reports that CrowdStrike says Russia is the hacker

June 15 -- Guccifer 2.0 boasts that he hacked the DNC server

July 10 -- Seth Rich murdered.

October 7 -- Assange begins to release the DNC files

=====

CrowdStrike, while doing its special monitoring of the DNC server, surely determined that someone downloaded a huge amount of data onto a handheld device on May 25. Soon afterwards, the downloading culprit would have been identified.

Already in May, the Clinton campaign leadership foresaw that embarrassing files from the DNC server and also from Clinton's private server might be released to the public shortly before the November 8 election.

In advance of such a release, the Clinton campaign leadership developed a strategy of arguing that the released, embarrassing files had been altered by the Russian government.

Therefore it was very important to establish that the released, embarrassing files passed through the Russian government.

If someone would be able to say credibly that the released, embarrassing files did NOT pass through the Russian government, then the Russia-altered-the-files argument would not work.

Therefore, Seth Rich was a major problem.

=====

Furthermore, the Romanian hacker Guccifer 2.0 was a major problem. He too might have stolen the files and then might have provided the files directly to Julian Assange.

The Washington Post article on June 14 remarked that a particular file of opposition research about Donald Trump had been stolen from the DNC server. In the following days, Guccifer 2.0 released that particular file to the public, thus proving that he had been able to steal files from the DNC server.

Into that file's metadata, however, Guccifer 2.0 inserted several clues incriminating Russia. For example, he inserted into the metadata the name, written in Cyrillic letters, of Felix Dzerzhinski, the first head of Soviet Intelligence.

Guccifer 2.0 inserted these Russia-incriminating clues because he had informed Russian Intelligence -- and was rewarded monetarily for doing so -- that the DNC server contained much information about FBI contractors searching the NSA database.

I have a question for you guys: Who’s ready to save America? Who’s ready to make America the country we say it is on paper and make it the actual country that it wants to be?,” Hogg asked the Canadian crowd. “I think the most important thing to realize, however, is the problems we face as a country, whether it be water in Flint, Michigan or the amount of mass incarceration of people of color that can’t vote.”

There's nothing more offensive to Canadians than speaking to them as if they were the same country as the United States. Nothing. Why would someone do that? David Hogg seems to be getting delusional and starting to think he's an actual leader even while he doesn't know what country he is actually in. He needs a rest. If anyone cared about him they'd lead him away from microphones and cameras and back toward reality. But he's the son of Dem activists so probably no one does care.

Mike Sylwester म्हणाले...

John Brennan, James Clapper and their ilk are Trump-haters who wanted Clinton to win the Presidential election.

The Trump-haters at the top of the Intelligence Community prepared an environment in which Clinton would be able to argue that Russian Intelligence had altered stolen files in order to embarrass her.

On October 7 (the same day that Julian Assange began to release DNC files to the public), Clapper and the Department of Homeland Security issued a joint statement that began:

[quote]

The U.S. Intelligence Community (USIC) is confident that the Russian Government directed the recent compromises of e-mails from US persons and institutions, including from US political organizations. The recent disclosures of alleged hacked e-mails on sites like DCLeaks.com and WikiLeaks and by the Guccifer 2.0 online persona are consistent with the methods and motivations of Russian-directed efforts.

These thefts and disclosures are intended to interfere with the US election process. Such activity is not new to Moscow—the Russians have used similar tactics and techniques across Europe and Eurasia, for example, to influence public opinion there. We believe, based on the scope and sensitivity of these efforts, that only Russia's senior-most officials could have authorized these activities.

[end quote]

Clapper's statement prepared the US electorate to accept from the Clinton campaign the upcoming argument that the files that now were being released by Assange had been altered by Russian Intelligence.

Bruce Hayden म्हणाले...

It is looking more and more like Trump is going to have the FISA warrant applications for Carter Page declassified in the very near future. Was covered by several of the FNC shows tonight, and Q seemed almost giddy. Over the weekend, there was pushback, in the suggestion that it couldn't be done it until after the election, because it was now w/I the 2 month window, which is apparently a DoJ rule (obviously violated by Comey in 2016). But, then, it was suggested that Mueller and his team of angry Democrats likely won't obey the regulation, and they are supposed to be part of the DoJ, to which the rule applies, while Trump is not. No doubt DoJ and maybe FBI officials are still dragging their feet as much as they can, with the declassification, but I do think that it is happening fairly soon. Just too much momentum. Too many leaks. Hopefully in the next day or two, before the incoming hurricane messes up the area too badly, giving them further excuses to dawdle. Next is probably declassification of DAG Rosenstein's orders to Mueller - esp with the suggestion that Steele Dossier information figured prominently. And, I think that Rosenstein is more and more finding himself in an untenable position. He should have recused himself awhile back, and still refuses. It looks more and more like part of what he is covering is his own screw ups, getting suckered by Steele and Simpson.

Some more happenings. Grand jury is apparently hearing testimony concerning Andrew McCabe. My guess is that this is a direct result of the IG report that got him fired, and doesn't involve UT USA Heber, who is supposed to be involved. And some more Strzok/Page text messages released today, that involve coordinated (probably illegal) leaking about Carter Page. Meanwhile we have numerous communications between Bruce Ohr and both Steele and Simpson, and also with Strzok, and, interestingly, with Mueller's lead investigator Andrew Weissman, long before he went to work for Mueller, and instead was working apparently for Ohr.

We also got a minimal sentence for Popodopolis, with the docs filed in court showing the Mueller team lying about his relationship with Misfyp, who is missing. The DNC thinks that he may be dead, but that may just be wishful thinking. Several months ago, we heard that he was hiding in Italy, in fear of his life. Likely, if the DNC Wants him dead, for good reason. And why would that be? My guess is that the CIA portion of FISAgate blows up if the Republicans in Congress investigating the scandal right now gets their hands on him. He and Downer appear to have been the CIA assets used to generate the predicate (out of thin air) used by the FBI to open the counterintelligence investigation into Trump/Russian collusion. Which is to say that it is very likely that it is the CIA that has caused him to fear for his life, as they try to cover up their involvement.

Bruce Hayden म्हणाले...

@Sylwester - it was never really the intelligence committee, but rather DNI Clapper talking for all of them, and apparently the conclusion came from hand picked teams at Brennan's CIA and Comey's FBI, and was disagreed with by the NSA. The other 14 or so intelligence agencies apparently weren't involved, despite Clapper pretending otherwise. The whole thing was ridiculous anyway, since the only people who actually investigated the actual servers was DNC contractor Cloudstrike. Assange, of course, denies Russian involvement, and claims that it was an inside job. And he should know, since it was his WikiLeaks that released the DNC emails. He also called BS on Guccifer 2.0. And further discrediting Guccifer 2.0, the Russian template that supposedly implicates them appears to have originated with a Biden national security staffer (I.e,, it came from the Obama White House). Besides, CIA hacking tools that make other countries, like the Russians, look complicit in hacking attacks were made public about that time. So, we essentially have the CIA, which routinely, apparently, makes its own hacking look like it was the Russians doing it is now claiming that the DNC server, that they have never formally had access to, was hacked by the same Russians that they routinely pretend to be when hacking computer systems. Right. The same CIA which was run, at the time, by former communist James Brennan, whose security clearance was just yanked, after having been caught leaking and lying.

You see, great feminist thinkers have insisted that “female animals are particularly oppressed” because “we consume animal products which must come from female bodies (i.e., milk and eggs)” and “this can be understood as a type of male domination of female bodies.” And so, obviously,

"Many feminist theorists have therefore recommended that refraining from consuming animals and their products is a necessary step toward undercutting patriarchal power. It will not only benefit non-human animals, but also work to undermine the entire system [that] disadvantages women.”

Ann Althouse म्हणाले...

"Guess Who I Saw Today"

I read the lyrics and understood them in a completely different way than when I listened to the song. It's perfectly obvious, when you hear the song, that the woman is confronting her man with the news that she saw him with another woman.

I can't believe I didn't see that when I read the lyrics, but I honestly thought that there were 2 voices in the song, first, the woman who was feeling bad that her man was arriving home late, making her suspicious that he's having an affair, and second, the man describing his day, which included seeing another couple who are in love. He teases her making her think that he too was waiting for someone in that bar, but then it turns out that seeing them in love inspired him to rush home to her. And the person he saw today — with newly inspired love — was the woman he's singing to now: "you." I heard a man telling his doubting wife that he realized how much he loved her.

Carmen McRae punctured that bubble for me.

I think "engineering" in the post referenced by Michael K. includes "software engineers," "hairstyling engineers," etc. and so forth as "engineers."

To make any sense, professional engineers, i.e. registered professional engineers (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics with sub-specialties) should be a separate classification.

(The term Professional Engineer is a protected designation and you may not refer to yourself as such without holding the necessary state license to practice. Just "engineer" OTOH is not and may refer to a locomotive engineer on the BNSF, a software "engineer," or whatever.)
