"Nothing says 'I'm a WASP' like a black and yellow striped lip."

Wrote Bob Boyd in the comments to the previous post — in which I mention that in the 1970s, I saw the term "WASP makeup" to refer to the lipstick-only approach to makeup. I was riffing on a NYT op-ed which included the subtitle "Nothing says 'I’m a woman' like a red lip."

Charmed by Mr. Boyd's perfect comment, I took up the challenge to find a photograph of someone with black and yellow striped lipstick. Eureka!

And wow, what a great Instagram account — Laura Jenkinson. What I've embedded above is one of the less interesting photographs. There are so many ideas here. Just to tantalize you with one that I love:

ADDED: So let's do as advised and check out Valeriya Kutsan. Whoa! As predicted: Mind blown!

Very cool photos on those sites.

What also catches my attention in the Laura Jenkinson photos: in many of the photos you can see a ring of the camera lights circled around her pupils. Makes for an interesting detail within the details of the face designs.

Wasps aren't black and yellow.

"Wasps aren't black and yellow."

Some are!

Quit stereotyping.

Search for black and yellow wasp at Google images — you'll get some great examples.

The black-and-yellow wasps have been lying low ever since the bees started coming after them for cultural appropriation.

What's she supposed to be in the second one, a laundry pod?

There are much worse things that become fads.
This one should be a fad.
Kids should get "made up" and go dancing.

I love these. A daughter of one of my wife's friends also does some amazing makeup work.

They did, back in the 80s.

The make-up in the second photo makes me think of the various made-up faces in the 80s film "Liquid Sky".

Various Liquid Sky clips here..

I am Laslo.

I wanted to click through Valeriya Kutsan's personal website, but I couldn't get through. I wonder if Mueller is investigating it just because Russia! You can get through to the photographers website with even more images and a client list.

Cool!

The blue face reminds me of Yves Klein's work.

One thing he did that was amazing was paint naked women blue, and then the models would press their bodies against the canvas. The result was Anthropometry of the Blue Period. Beautiful!

She's got a very odd face--I can see why she wants to hide it. (My whole head is weird).

I took my college roommate's friend from rural Georgia to see Liquid Sky. Probably a mistake, but he was about to intern on Capitol Hill in the 80's, so maybe he inoculated him a bit.

You must not have clicked on the link.

She's actually beautiful.

Just did battle with a subterranean nest of yellow jackets. Definitely black and yellow with red hot multi-use stingers. They came at me like a pack of wolves and I sprinted full retreat. 4 gallons of sand-cement slurry sealed their fate

If I want to see a lower jaw too small, I'll look in a mirror. Her eyes are too big for her face.
The huge distance between her nose and lips makes her look old and odd. I'm pretty sure some photos are 'shopped to enlarge it, in addition to the ones that remove her nose entirely.
