The loss is a matter of what the government does. It reduces the money supply - the rat ate paper, not money - so the govenment could just replace it and everything's equal. That produces a moral hazard though.
I took the code from Flickr and then made it smaller it through Blogger. That created a flashing effect on some devices. I correct the problem by getting code for the smaller size directly from Flickr.
The rats were drawn with a finger back when that was a new function in the iPhone texting app. It was hard to do that, so it forced a very primitive style that felt cute at the time. I guess I stopped because things like that lose their charm after a very short while.

Just reloaded. StI'll not playing well with my oldest iPad. Will try with a newer one. The problem with the flashing is that the tho pictures take up different amounts of screen space, which means that the larger (or taller) pushes everything down, and the smaller/shorter pulls it back up, which makes everything below the drawings flash up and down at a pretty good clip - fast enough that it was difficult to get into this comment thread, because the link kept jumping up and down, much faster than I could click on.
Reminds Wilbur of Biggie Rat, from the early-60's cartoon King Leonardo.
Biggie Rat's associate in perfidy, the King's brother, had one of the greatest names ever: Itchy Brother. I learn now it has already been used by a band, who I read was a precursor to The Kentucky Headhunters.

Was that the winning rat?
And his name?

@David Begley.
No, that's Virgil. The winning rat, the official rat of the Althouse blog, is Rattatz.
Virgil came in second, but doing this post today, I just thought he looked more likely to eat money.
Rattatz or Rattataz?
I voted for Virgil the fist time around.
The pictire in your post keeps changing size, Ann. Is that you or me?
picture, dummy.
It's you, Rusty.
Ugh! It was weird on Meade's iPad too.
I tried to code it a different way. Try it now.
Flickr and Blogger did not play well together.

hahahhahahhha!
When does Althouse sell rat coffee mugs? Full sets and individual rat characters. Look out Walt!
It's not the rupees to dollars exchange rate Virgil has to worry about, it's the rupee to poopy rate. That money could be tied up for a long time.

It took them 22 days from the time the ATM broke until they went to fix it. Is money usually left sitting in a broken ATM?

I just see a little part of Virgil, an ear and one eye peeking at me. It makes him more like a real rat.
In Venezuela, you could at least use Bolivars to lure rates to eat.
ATM machine: automatic teller machine machine
Newest iPad seems to be working just fine, but only the one pix is showing.
Our rats go through most of $3.8 trillion.

Virgil definitely looks like the rat that ate the rupee. Or should that be the rat who ate the rupee?
