"Read Me!"
A book "Open to the Public" on a table in a café in Madison, Wisconsin. Many different people have written on the pages, many talking about lost love or loneliness...
"I am a thieving heroin addict."

But that's just the weed talking.
I read the H as a D and got "I am a [something] desire addict," which is much more profound, don't you think?
readme.txt was the all-purpose documentation file name, everyone distributed with their .exe whathaveyou. Mostly those readmes were just aimless palaver demanding this and that exclusive right regardless of the warmed-over nature of most of the algorithms therein, so they have been routinely ignored by nearly everybody for decades now.
For a moment I thought that coffee (?) cup belonged to our hostess. Nasty looking.
Is it still a confession if the addict steals the book?
Thieving or Thriving?
In any case: Be Best, buddy!
Thieving or Thriving?
Many schools have given up teaching cursive. Pretty soon the confession will be as unintelligible as the toddler's scrawl on the facing page.
readme.txt's used to have interesting (read:important) stuff like version changes and port settings and command line parameters and warnings to never, never do this, or that, or the other thing, else you will corrupt the database.
When I was in Ramstein, there was a book in the 512th Operation room, where fighter crews commented on daily activity.
On one page was written:
Mary had a little lamb,
its fleece was white as snow;
And everywhere that Mary went,
the lamb was sure to go.
He followed her to school one day;
That was against the rule;
Because a big black dog came up,
and fucked the shit out of it.
This makes me think of the little book in the restaurant in "Magnificent Obsession."
I doubt any college kids could understand that book, today, even though it was based on a real person.
Is that Phantom what you flew? Front or rear seat? I had you for Compass Call or something. Dug the F-4 deeply from childhood. I like flying bricks like it or the P-47 or AD-1.
Godless people, silently screaming for help, but the jokes never stop on Althouse.
Wasn't the IG Report due out today?
If you haven't been paying close attention and tuned into LLR Chuck's beloved lefty MSM today, you could be forgiven for thinking that apparently, Donald J Trump is now the former AG of the State of NY and apparently was beating the snot out of women and had to resign.
Christy: "Wasn't the IG Report due out today?"
It was supposed to be out in April but the IG keeps informing Congress that new leads are being discovered and investigated and need to be followed up.
It's now mid-May or so as an estimate.
A real thieving heroin addict would have stolen the book.
“Read Me!”
NO!
(damn)
I was ex-enlisted RC-135 scope dope crew before ROTC, so there was no way they were going to put me in fighters, ha.
So I flew E-3's (707's) for 14 years (only T-37, and T-38 in UPT at Vance). We stationed E-3's out of Ramstein during the Poland Crisis (1980-81).
I loved it. Nothing like having your own ATC built-in...
Looks like there really is a serious rape culture out there....amongst liberal men....
...who were being "policed" by other "libs"....................not.
Trump feared Rudy Giuliani was 'drinking too much' before he hired him
A legitimate concern as things turned out.
I'm listening to Leonard Cohen. That sepulchral quality in his voice used to add weight and melancholy to his lyrics. Intimations of mortality are kind of poetic, but actual death ruins the effect. Some of Jim Morrison's music became more poignant after his death, but not so much with Cohen. He sounds kind of bleak and desolate. Death was a bad career move for him.
Etienne - Which pilot training squadron were you in at Vance AFB and what year?
That book on the table, where anyone can, like, write whatever shit in it they want: it's kinda like an Althouse cafe post.
I wonder how many thieving heroin addicts are here, starting to write, like a comment or shit, but then they start nodding o
Smart money says somebody’s out a pen.
Here's what I would write in the book:
Once I was sitting on the bench at the stop at the end of the bus line where the buses turn around and start back on their route. The person next to me was writing in a notebook and she turned to me and said: "I just wrote this. 'In life we come to the turn around place and there we can turn around and go on to a better way. This is the turn around place and I am turning around now.'" "Good luck," I said and she went off on her bus.
Question: are there any right-wing Schneidermans--men who have access to accommodating right-wing chicks who suck(ed) up the abuse for the sake of politics? Are there any right-wing Weinsteins, protected by their correct politics? Can there be?

History quiz (sort of).
Who said the following: "You're my brown slave ...... you're my property. I will slap you around until you call me Master".
A) George Wallace
B) Robert E. Lee
C) Mitt Romney
D) Eric Tradd Schneiderman (D-Pervert), former AG - the State of New York, Harvard Law School, Trump antagonist, Women's advocate.
If you guessed D, you would right.
"Beloved Commenter AReasonableMan said...
Trump feared Rudy Giuliani was 'drinking too much' before he hired him
A legitimate concern as things turned out."
With all this unpleasant Eric Schneiderman behind us, look who drops in for his usual unsubstantiated Trump drive by.
So 40 years ago today, I returned home from a once-in-a-lifetime, three-week adventure that involved starting out with $1.29 in my pocket and hitchhiking, starting from the Gulf coast of Florida...the very first ride was a guy who had a half-pound of Colombian weed under his seat. Meandered up through Georgia and the Carolinas, then west, across the Mississippi at Memphis.
That took about 5 days.
Headed south to San Antonio and then I-10 all the way to Yuma...camped out a few days near Imperial Dam. Met a fellow who was living in a junked-out 1957 Caddy limousine there near the river. Aba De Baba was the name on his AZ id card...he had legally changed it from Doug, or something.
Then it was on to L.A....I remember seeing the Capitol Records building from the back of a 1969 Datun pickup truck, then "headin' out to San Francisco" and ultimately, Berkeley. That took about 6-7 days.
Flopped for a couple days in some big old run-down communal house that a ride knew about, walked around the Haight, which by 1978 had seen better days. Dinner (vegetarian - thank God for peanut butter!) was at the Hare Krishna Temple there in Berkeley, after the sermon.
Met a fellow who introduced me to the Plasma Bank, where they would take a pint of blood from you, centrifuge out the plasma, and then return your filtered blood to your arm. For this I was paid $5, plus I split the "referral reward" with the guy who snagged me off the sidewalk, so I started my return trip with $7.50 in my pocket.
Down the PCH, back to I-10, then, after a brief foray across the border to Juarez, straight across America and back to Florida. 7 days and a couple of hours from downtown Berkley to back home.
Kind of something from your generation, eh, Professor? California Dreaming, Goin' To California, "If you're going to San Franciso...", I was a few years late to it, but it was a very memorable, very 1970s journey.
