Neil Young says "Trump likes my music. He’d come to all my shows.”
Quoted in "Neil Young Fires Back at His Biggest Troll, Dana Loesch: ‘I’m Glad I Got Under Her Skin’/The NRA spokesperson apparently harbors a burning hatred of the music icon that goes back decades" (Daily Beast).

So Dana has thought more about Neil than the rest of America, excepting DJ's and VC's, combined?
That is so odd.

I've always had difficulty in the precise usage of the term, "Hobson's choice."
Is it a "Hobson's choice" for the Althouse commentariat: choosing to accept this story and think that Trump is a cool guy for liking Neil Young, or is this story a revelatory takedown of the gun-rights sex kitten Dana Loesch?
Neither/nor. I love my Glock and I love Neil Young.
"Loesch has tweeted negative things about Young at least 15 times over the course of a decade".
So the roughly 116,685 other tweets were not negative about Neil Young.
#dyingcowfarttweetsmatter
An example of a Hobson's choice would be the guy with a bumper sticker that says Don't blame me, yes, I voted for Trump but I hate his guts and that means I'm still morally superior to you.
"choosing to accept this story and think that Trump is a cool guy for liking Neil Young"
Who's doing that?
I was just interested in Young's revelation that he thought about Trump like that and imagined Trump attending his shows. The only possible "coolness" I thought about was that it was wackily uncool for Young to think about Trump as a fan. But it gave me hope that maybe the different sides could stop treating each other as toxic. Trump, for his part, plays music of people who openly say they dislike him. He just likes what he like. Who expects the singers you listen to to have an opinion about you? Aside from the time Bob Dylan glared at you, when does stuff like that happen.
As for thinking about Loesch, I didn't even read that part. I don't care about her or whatever back and forth she might have with Neil Young.
Maybe you've noticed I keep my distance from NRA stuff.
Young is at SXSW to promote Paradox, a trippy new film by his partner of four years, the actress and activist Daryl Hannah. In the film, hitting Netflix on March 23,
Publicity stunt explained.
I hope Marlow Stern was well-paid by Young's publicists for writing that silly trash.
"15 times over the course of a decade".
75% of the example "hate" tweets were posted on the one day that Trump made Young newsworthy, so if you ignore those, that's about 1 tweet per year.
I've probably posted more than 15 anti-Young posts since he came up with that "Pono" scam, and I like his music...though I can see how people would think his voice sounds kinda wanky-hinky-wonky.
I like his music too. It makes it hard to cough up money for it though.
Amusing to think anyone could be considered "cool" for liking Neil Young in 2018.
I see no Hobson's choice: hating Neil Young has been Dana Loesch's hobby horse, ever since her cast on a couch experience. We all have 'em.
I started to read the article, but since Dana Loesch emphatically did not get her ass handed to her by Parkland school kids, I assume everything else in the article is just as wrong.
Amusing to think anyone could be considered “cool" for liking Neil Young in 2018.
I know, it’s not even vintage enough to interest hipsters. I guess he’s cooler than Pat Boone.
It’s a silly Enquirer-ish post. Fergie annoys the Queen Mum at Ascot! Not Althouse standard. Of course Trump likes Neil Young. Everyone over a certain age has Young’s music as part of the vague default soundtrack of their lives. I always feel a little wistful and nostalgic when “Helpless” comes over the radio or the Muzak at Wal-Mart. It doesn’t mean I’m giving a second’s thought to Young’s politics or who he’s having a social media pissing match with.
So does Trump now have to disavow Neil Young?
For my part, I go out of my way to separate the music from the artist as a person. I like what I like. Perhaps the most extreme example is I still like "Rock and Roll Part 2" by Gary Glitter even though, by all accounts, Gary is a horrible human being.
Neil Young has some good songs. All in all he is probably overrated, but more along the lines that I would rate him an A-/B+ and music nerds score him roughly A+++. I did find his "Let's Roll" very comforting after the 9/11 attacks.
LLR Chuck: "Is it a "Hobson's choice" for the Althouse commentariat: choosing to accept this story and think that Trump is a cool guy for liking Neil Young, or is this story a revelatory takedown of the gun-rights sex kitten Dana Loesch?"
"sex kitten"
Tells you a lot about our #StrongDurbinDefender, doesn't it?
I think it was John Irving who related a story about being on a plane watching somebody start to read one of his books. The person somehow got upset after a while and crammed the book into the seatback pouch. The interviewer started to commiserate but he quickly interrupted with the comment that he thought it was the most marvelous thing that his words could provoke such a reaction in someone.
I hope Neil Young will remember, an NRA gal don't need him around anyhow.
Bushman of the Kohlrabi: "Amusing to think anyone could be considered "cool" for liking Neil Young in 2018."
It's simply LLR Chuck playing into whatever the lefty narrative of the day happens to be.
Utterly predictable.
Just peruse CNN or MSNBC or DailyKos or Media Matters prior to reading Althouse and you'll already know what LLR Chuck will be posting that day.
Wasn’t Neil Young one of those rockers who asked Trump to stop using his music during the 2016 campaign? That’s what I remember him for. Correct me if I’m wrong. It seems sort of silly to say what he says now about Trump.

Right. I get that, and I have indeed noticed that, albeit not in any dramatic way. I don't think that you have avoided NRA stuff as dramatically as, for instance, you have avoided some of the negative stories about Trump's basic credibility. I expect your readers have a much greater interest in "firearms and the law" than you do, which is fine. If you did choose to blog the subject I expect that you'd do it very well.
Anyway, my comment wasn't so much aimed at any failing at all on the part of your blog-post but rather on the expected reactions of your commenters, Althouse. And they most definitely WILL do a lot of thinking about Dana Loesch.
By the way; I agree with Big Mike. Dana Loesch most certainly did NOT get her ass handed to her by any of the Parkland School kids.
LLR Chuck: "And they most definitely WILL do a lot of thinking about Dana Loesch."
Wow.
He literally can't help himself.
Anyone who refers to Dana Loesch as a "sex kitten" (utterly sexist and demeaning) is clearly doing a lot of thinking about Dana Loesch.
Perhaps even in a disturbed way.
I would defer to Neil Young's judgment in matters regarding model trains, guitars, and music. He's quite knowledgeable on such subjects. On most other matters, he is demonstrably wrong. His personal life is a shambles and the people within his orbit have not benefited from his acquaintance.....I don't know that much about Dana Loesch, but, even if you disagree with her position on guns, she does seem like a decent enough person. There's almost nothing in Young's personal life besides his musical gifts that is worthy of emulation.
Is Chuck fantasizing about giving Dana Loesch the Greta treatment?
Hope he tries it, would be amusing to read of him getting some new holes.
Who the hell is Neill Young?
rcocean: "Who the hell is Neill Young?"
True story: some years back, in a conversation with some "young folks", I made a long running joke about how much the young ones didn't know.
I had been using this one for some time and this incident told me that was no longer operable:
I said to them, you are so young you don't even know that Paul McCartney was in a band before Wings!
Their response? "Who's Paul McCartney?".
Yeah. That was the end of that joke.....
President-Mom-Jeans: "Is Chuck fantasizing about giving Dana Loesch the Greta treatment?"
Probably.
But LLR Chuck's primary task is to try and amplify the lefts tactics in dehumanizing Dana first. Like he always does for his lefty allies.
Maybe you've noticed I keep my distance from NRA stuff.
Don't worry..no one really expects a Constitutional law professor to actually believe in and defend the Bill of Rights.
Why are Rightwing women always either trannies or sex kittens?
Gahrie: "Why are Rightwing women always either trannies or sex kittens?"
Because that's what the left needs them to be for political purposes.
And LLR Chuck gleefully participates in that.
You should feel to draw obvious conclusions.
I saw the news that an octagenarian democrat woman fell and died today.
I got excited it was Ginsburg, but it was Slaughter.
Young has made a lot of good music, but..
Young's actions should hardly be surprising to Stills. In 1976, the two were touring behind the Stills-Young Band's 'Long May You Run' album when Young, without warning, left the tour. Stills found out when he received a telegram backstage that read, "Dear Stephen, funny how things that start spontaneously end that way. Eat a peach. Neil."
At the moment, Stills does not believe he will ever tour with Young again.
Donno,Dana Loesch, brainy, combative, extremely attractive, with those librarian glasses...pretty damn sex kittenish to me!

That is ruthless Meade.
But "Chuck" didn't vote for Trump. I know you all like pointing out the numerous contradictions in the "Chuck" persona object that posts here. It is not posting in good faith. It pretends to be a conservative while posting obviously sexist trash like "sex kitten."
"Chuck" might actually be a person named Chuck somewhere. But Chuck is no conservative or even republican. Chuck is a caricature some statist/globalist cobbled together to try to convince people a real conservative/republican believes in open borders "free" trade higher taxes and regulations gun control etc.
The same things democrats believe in.

Many on the Left have hated Neil Young for writing that lyric about not being able to live forever up on Sugar Mountain.
Growing up? WTF????
For What it's Worth, After the Gold Rush Down by the River I always wanted to be Cinnamon Girl's Old Man on Sugar Mountain
Washed up Canuck rockers are always my go-to sources for Second Amendment issues.
She does have a point- Neil chooses to sing in a whiney falsetto that takes some getting used to.
And I am a recovering Neil Young fan having bought everything he had put out as of 1983. Around about that time I noticed that his albums were half full of of great ideas that he couldn't be bothered to finish. Very frustrating. It sounds like he would get an idea for a tune, work on it for 30 minutes, and then just go with that. You can still hear him sing some of these half fast lyrics 25 years later. I have picked up a few of his recent records and they are close to unlistenable due to the sloppy lyrics.

FIFY
Chuck finds Dana Loesch's looks disarming.
Howard: "How transphobic of you Drago."
Good catch.
I've already self-reported.
I'm looking forward to all the usual punishments: The Comfy Chair, Ostrich Feather Treatment, Re-Reviewing all 1980's Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issues, Loop-viewing of Billy Joel's "Uptown Girl" and, of course, requisite seminars on numismatics.
It's "cool", as the kids say, that Neil Young claims Trump as a fan. That he doesn't try to distance himself as far as possible from the toxicity of a link to Trump, as would most celebrities these days, is like a cool Canadian breeze. It shows that Young is his own man, even if he is a lefty. Good for Neil!
Thanks Walter.

I have no intention of enrolling in the "How to become a Leftist in 3 Easy Steps" program.

badda-boom
I think lynyrd skynyrd had the last word.
Howard: "It takes 3-steps to get it down Pat

Wow.
I hope that guy is here all week!
Trump has refused to listen to Neil Young since he figured out Young has a trade surplus with David Crosby.
"is this story a revelatory takedown of the gun-rights sex kitten Dana Loesch? "
Wow! I think we have a lefty fan of the NRA !
Snark: "Trump has refused to listen to Neil Young since he figured out Young has a trade surplus with David Crosby."
But Crosby denies that claiming that the trade balance calculation doesn't include illicit weapons and gratis mary jane which, if included, would show a negative trade balance for himself!
Young shocked his bandmates when he came out liking Reagan.
And then he wrote "Let's Roll".
And then his brain exploded and he woke up an idiot.
The supposed diss by Skynrd was taken in good spirit by Young. Van Zant wore a Neil Young t-shirt once on stage. These conflicts are win-win.
Young was more patented than most,
willers: "And then his brain exploded and he woke up an idiot"
Tis better to have thought, then lost, then never to have thought at all....
