If you're wondering why I'm Google-Street-Viewing around Dnipro, read the next post.

Clearly Ann needs to be put on Mueller's list of subversives - even if Ukraine is not Russia anymore.

Depessing Soviet era buildings, few cars on the road. Looks like an economically depressed area. Its too bad, because most Ukrainians I know are great people. How do you recover from the forced starvation of the 30's, the horrors of WWII, and the Soviet domination for decades. Even now Russia just wants Ukraine to be a colony. The name Ukraine itself does not even suggest an identity. The name means borderland, and it always suffered because of its geography.
Hitler wanted to eliminate most Ukrainians and replace them with German farmers who would feed the fatherland.
However, Ukrainian food, if done right, can be quite satisfying. There is a Ukrainian Deli in Minneapolis that serves
nearly all varieties of Slavic food, plus tortes to die for. Its named Kramarczuk's Deli. It was monitored by the KGB
during the cold war because it was a gathering place for the Russian and Ukrainian emigre community.

Wasn't P.J. O'Rourke who said that "Commies love concrete"?

Good Lord, how old is the graffiti in that third picture? And why is the "the" in English and the "еуріон" in Kazakh ("European")?

Who on this blog has been to Dnipro besides me? n.n.? I am counting on you, scouting for the Novo Russian Motor Battalion.

Well. They have a McDonalds and a giant mural so it isn't a complete shithole.

You know what's fun when you're bored?
I'll tell ya.
In google maps go to places like N Korea or cuba or some other closed society and look for stuff that shouldn't be there.
I found a golf course and a marina in NKorea. Golf courses and go cart tracks in Cuba.
Stuff like that.

I too have been to Dnipro. My company bought a mining operation near there in 1996 and I was one of the lucky ones sent there for a couple of weeks to get it running and shipping product again. It was one of the most harrowing experiences of my life. To see what just 75 years of Communism did to that country was truly shocking. Every Bernie Bro should be required to visit there at least once in their life. They would come back changed people?
