So why hasn't the Nat'l Enquirer published the dirt on Clinton yet? It's been twenty years, Clinton must have left a trail of harassed and assaulted women and girls. They got Edwards no problem. They've pushed enough of the Hillary/Huma stuff. Are they not paying enough?

They didn't get Weinstein, Moore, Franken, Rangel, Thrush or Rose either. Or any of the other less-well-known #MeToo villains.

What's the point of tabloids if they don't get the good stuff?

Beautiful sunset tonight. The clouds are about 6 hours late (vis a vis the forecast) in moving out. I've set the refractor up tonight; got a new eyepiece to evaluate. Transparency is forecast to be good; the seeing forecast to be bad. Sure can't complain about the temperature. Dry too, and the wind has finally dropped.

Steve Uhr, there are two female Native American names that everyone knows - Pocahontas and Sacajawea. If you're going to ridicule a white woman for falsely claiming to be a Native American, you have to pick one or the other. That's how that works.

You want it to be otherwise, please do propose a different name. That's what I thought - no one else can think of one either. Other than Stands With A Fist, the white chick from Dances With Wolves. And she doesn't count on account of she's made up.

It's a mistake to conflate the progressive diversity (i.e. color, tribe) of people that occupied this land. Calling someone Pocahontas seems to me an insult of a different sort.
The implication, specific to the historical Pocahontas, is to say that she is presuming above her station, Pocahontas being not just a "princess", but an authentic ancestress of much of the Virginia Tidewater aristocracy, IIRC.

Looking at this from the outside, it seems to me plenty of white Americans like to claim Indian descent, it is now romantic to do so.

It's an interesting parallel to Spanish people claiming to have Jewish or Moorish or even Gypsy descent. This has been a thing since the 19th century. Of course, it won't do, under most circumstances, to actually be a gypsy, unless one is a professional guitarist or flamenco performer. ,

For white Americans, Pocahontas is a figure of respect. There's nothing racist about invoking her name. The derogation comes from SJWs: Pocahontas stands for working with whites--even loving them. That is inexcusable.

Applying the name to Warren was a mistake: in his bumbling way, Trump misremembered the usual righty smear against Fauxahontas. Of course, his point was to call BS on her false exploitation of her phony native narrative.

Just as progs used accusations of retro moralism to shield prog pigs from conservative criticism of sexual harassment two decades ago, they now use the racism charge to shield one of their totem carriers against conservative criticism. Racism is a tool.

I looked up Cheyenne. They are an Algonquinian tribe that started in Minnesota but were pushed out onto the great plains and apparently west to Wyoming. They did the Sun Dance and used peace pipes for treaties. They allied with the Comanche and the Ute to fight off invaders.

"A false narrative is being spread in numerous articles: that America’s ballistic-missile-defense ships cannot shoot down ICBMs, except possibly in the terminal phase of the missiles as they approach their targets.

That myth is a legacy of the Antiballistic Missile Treaty, which made it illegal to defend the American people against ballistic missiles."

HT म्हणाले...

Matt Lauer is not preventing you from thinking of North Korea.

The real issue is how in the hell bama can get into the playoffs? It's all a crazy mixed up picture. Wisconsin had a bad schedule, I mean easy. I'm not saying they're not good, but it's just hard to tell. Auburn has 2 losses but they beat the best team in the nation. But they have two losses, and I hate Auburn. Clemson probably deserves to be in there, maybe not #1. And Oklahoma. Recall seeing some crazy defenseless shootout a couple of weeks ago. The further west, the less they like D. The answer lies, of course, in bringing back the Iron Bowl to Birmingham, and then the earth sits properly on its axis.

Big Mike म्हणाले...

@HT, Wisconsin is the only unbeaten major conference team, but if Ohio State State beats them this Saturday then the Buckeyes deserve to go to the playoffs. That will be especially true since the only loss Ohio State had was early in the season to Oklahoma.

Bama cannot be in the playoffs. How can we risk having a national champion who is not even their conference champion? Here's hoping Georgia wins the rematch with Auburn.

HT म्हणाले...

Because we are the best team, that's how. Auburn has two losses. OSU has two losses. And - OMG - Iowa, a 6-3 team, KILLED them. Please. If they beat Wisconsin, sorry that just means that both teams = overrated and neither deserves to get in. So far it's looking like Clemson and Okla for sure deserve to be there. But OSU, no. Wisconsin will if they beat OSU. I look forward to watching that game. But when you're talking the SEC, you cannot just toss out conference-related questions and equate them with other conferences, sorry there is no equivalence there.

Again, bama is the fulcrum, and we should have beaten Auburn. Too bad. I hate to say this, but Auburn is really good, and if they beat Ga again, then they do deserve to get in.

traditionalguy म्हणाले...

Insider TIP: the CF Playoffs final
Will be TCU v UGA. This is my prophecy for 1917. Alabama will still play Ohio State in bowl game and lose. The Sooners will defeat Clemsonfor 3rd place. Wisconsin will be shafted by their Big 10 friends. With SEC help.

Big Mike म्हणाले...

Because we are the best team

But Alabama is not in its conference championship game. How can you say they're the best team? Alabama has been overrated ever since the days of Bear Bryant. Heck, they've been overrated since Johnny Mack Brown was their tailback.

Big Mike म्हणाले...

(Just funnin' with you, HT. Yes, they are an outstanding team but it really would be crazy to have as the national champion a team didn't officially win its own conference.)
