"I was saddened to see how bad the ratings were on the Emmys last night - the worst ever. Smartest people of them all are the 'DEPLORABLES.'"

Tweeted our sarcastic President, Donald J. Trump.

Via Variety, where we learn:
Sunday’s awards ceremony averaged 11.4 million viewers, compared to 2016’s 11.3 million, its lowest ever. The telecast also averaged a 2.5 rating in adults 18-49, dropping below last year’s low point of a 2.8.
So it's "worst ever" if you look at the 18-49 number, but not if you count everyone, which is ironic if you think of the over-49ers as containing the highest concentration of deplorables.

Exactly, or the monthly employment gains under President Trump. ;-)

In the 1980s, when Michael Jordan was being hectored on not speaking up enough on political issues (leftist political issues, of course), he said something, to the effect, that, well, Republicans buy a lotta Nikes too.

Same principle.

There's no outrage or boycott of the Emmy's. But when been completely co-opted by leftwing ignoramuses, there's a lotta other options to watch........

There are secret non-leftists, but they better keep quiet if they ever want to work in Hillarywood.

"Saddened" is a hilarious word. Politicians use it to fake sincerity so often that it's perfect for sarcasm purposes.

I think I have an old blog post about the word. Hang on...

You're missing the best implication, i.e. what DJT says smart people are doing. The smartest folks (i.e. the Deplorable demo, i.e. the oldies (but goodies)) are the folks who disproportionately do watch the Emmys. Smart people watch the Emmys, according to DJT.

Cool.

Some people just watched to laugh at the liberals melting down.

"Saddened" is a hilarious word.

Especially when politicians attach the word "deeply" to it to convey faux emotion to the emoters in the audience.

It's even more hilarious when they buy it.

I so wanted to watch the Emmys the other night but stuff came up. I had to pet the dog, take out the trash, play an iPhone game, search the internet for pictures of the world's largest ball of string, clip my nails... Critical STUFF that I could not put off!

There is NOTHING I like better than watching a bunch of over paid narcissists pat themselves on the back, hand out participation trophies while making fun of the President, and making jokes about the very same "middle America" that pays their salaries [indirectly] by paying to see their products. Should have remembered to set the DVR!

It wouldn't surprise if the rating were just marginally higher this year. Political passions are still high after the election. The problem, however, for people like Colbert is that these passions eventually fade, but their partisanship will ensure that half the country will never watch him again while the other half will find other things to watch.

My prediction is this- if Jimmy Fallon can maintain a more non-partisan style, he will be crushing Colbert by the middle of next year.

Yeah, I thought of Daschle as I was writing my comment. Thought I had something in an old post, but couldn't find it.

The worst thing in life is getting a trophy. I got a trophy once, and the name plate was glued on.

I showed it to my wife, who said "that, and $1.50 will get you a cup of coffee."

My suggestion would be for one big awards show that encompasses literature, arts, music and even sports. On that award show they could award prizes to whatever entertainer, writer, or running back did the most in their respective field to disparage Trump and mock his foibles. They could get it all out their system in one big night. Distill the venom to vitriol and splash it all over that orange mother fucker. Hold nothing back. Top each other. Search for the most perfect insult. Achieve catharsis.......Then, at the end of the night, let it go. No more hatefests till the following year.

As Ace pointed out last night, the left has gone insane.

Since I don't watch TV, except football games, I have no interest in Emmys.

I watched the Oscars years ago, when movies were still good.

They cooked the numbers so that they can do it again.

Darrell म्हणाले...

Trump was quoting the number from Mainstream new sources that were available on Sunday/Monday. I saw "worst" used many times. Did you?

Birkel म्हणाले...

So it's worst-ever if you look at it from the perspective of advertisers who pay to support the broadcast because demographics matter.

That 10% decline from a 2.8 share to a 2.5 share might mean a 10% drop in ad revenue when the contract is renegotiated.

rehajm म्हणाले...

I saw Colbert had assumed Trump would be live tweeting the show and welcomed him a the top of the show. Best move by Trump would have been to ignore the shows existence.

Meanwhile, Colbert and Alec Baldwin cement their status as future winners of the Mark Twain Award, joining the ranks of past Queen of TV Agitprop Tina Fey. The Hive rewards its own.

buwaya म्हणाले...

To a significant degree it doesn't matter whether the Emmy's have become less popular.
The point of modern establishment entertainment is very much about politics, and especially cultural manipulation, which is upstream of politics.

Their whole industry, large and rich as it may seem, is simply a tool of much larger and richer entities, to whom politics matters more to their larger interests, larger enterprises, than some minor effect on profitability of some rather small piece of their portfolio.

Bill Peschel म्हणाले...

One wonders how many really watched. It's like looking at USAToday's circulation numbers, when the vast majority of them are delivered to hotels.

In fact, wasn't there a story recently about the networks manipulating the Nielsen ratings to hide the decline in news viewership?
