At the Love Café...

P1140384

... you can talk about whatever you like.

The photo is from the Indianapolis Museum of Art, where we wandered around last Saturday. The acrylic wash drawing on the wall is "Wall Drawing No. 652" by Sol Le Witt. The big "Love" sculpture, by Robert Indiana, is one of a series that uses the word "love" written like that, as a block of 2 layers of 2 letters, with the "O" at an angle (presumably to remind you of penis-in-vagina sexual love).

Here's another room, a composition I call "Man In Shorts Walking Away from a Woman in Shorts":

Love Musings funded by Eli Lilly. Microdot Cialis samples hidden, embedded on tissues in the mens room. “Honey, you’ve been so vigorous lately! We really do need to visit that Love Museum again.”

I wonder what Kevin Love thinks of the LeBron and Kyrie feud. Think he would be happy to go back to the T Wolves

ED drugs have skyrocketed in price the last couple of years, so I've been told by a urologist not my own. But at the end of the year, the patent runs out.

I first saw that Sol Le Witt painting on an aircraft of the Luftstreitkräfte.

I saw some of Indiana’s other ‘work’ while visiting Indiana (the state): A piece titled ‘Mississippi,’ one of a collection called ‘The Old Confederacy.’ It reads: ‘Just as in the anatomy of man, every nation must have its hind part.’ Nearly identical pieces ‘honor’ Florida, Alabama, and Louisiana in the same way. Possibly he stopped when he couldn’t figure out how to spell ‘Tennessee.’

He’s a tool.

Your photo composition has many stories and an interesting Magritte vibe.

Here is some info on why Sam Shepard was living in KY when he died.

"Where — and why — did Sam Shepard live in Kentucky?"

"When Shepard wasn't working on stage or on television and movie sets, he often returned to his Kentucky horse farm and frequented local Midway businesses.

"Sam was a well-respected artist and our community treated him as one of our own," said Midway mayor Grayson Vandegrift. "We all understand that he loved Midway partly because we treated him like everyone else and we always tried to respect his privacy.""

It seems to me that I have seen this LOVE logo/sculpture somewhere before in the 60's (?) Maybe on some fabric or a record album.

It is making me nuts trying to remember if my memory is real or not.

"L" is for the way you look at me..
"O" is for the only one I see

(etc)

DBQ: It's a famous sculpture, and has been displayed in Philadelphia's JFK Plaza since 1976. The one there is painted red.

No, I certainly won't do the "fandango," and for chrissakes, stop calling me Scaramouche.

They used that LOVE format on the cover of the paperback edition of Love Story. Ali mcGraw still owes me an apology.

Be refreshed! It's almost as common, in every sense of the word, as the smiley face.

Thank you guys for helping to not feel crazy. I was confused as to why this LOVE sculpture dealie was in an art gallery when it seemed to be something so common and not really much of an artistic achievement in the first place.

Whew! Not losing my mind and not an acid flashback either :-D

I never would have thought of the sexual connotation of the 'O' being on its side. I'd always thought that arrangement made the letter fit better into the space better -- making the entire image better fit within a square shape.

madAsHell म्हणाले...

This might help DBQ.

Although I have conflated thoughts as well.......I would have sworn that the movie "Love Story" somehow used a rendering of the LOVE sculpture in white, and the sculpture was located in Boston.

Unfortunately, the internet refuses to confirm my memory.

Uh, OK.

There comes a time when the body says, "Enough, dude. There are other things in life. Time to go do those."

You would think that people would think it a relief, they would be happy not to be enslaved to their passions, free of constant desire and obsessive thoughts, having not to continue chasing after the insatiable.

But then there is modern hyper-sexualized ideology (as well as Big Pharma) to come and set them right.

Sure. If you say so, but
maybe the artist just wanted to make it visully intesting.
