Terrible article.

"We might be tempted to laugh at other people's ignorance but should we?"

How 'bout this attempt at writing he refers to: "This ain’t the first solar eclipse and I’m pretty sure our ancestors ain’t have no fancy eyewear. Also pretty sure they ain’t all go blind."

Is it funny enough to laugh at? Because of the ' in "ain't" I say no, it's not funny because it's just fake marketing nonsense.

That, some 'tards who supposedly put sun-screen on their eyes, and people who think college degree are worth something in and of themselves, were Fernandez's examples of "In our high technology present an increasing percentage of the global population must relate to their world in terms of magic" even though none of those things are related to "magic" or "magical thinking" at all, they were just examples of stupid thinking.

"Two hundred years ago the average person probably understood virtually everything he encountered in daily life."

Two hundred years ago average person probably misunderstood virtually everything he encountered in daily life.

Here's some real magical thinking about the eclipse:

“You’re not supposed to be out in the sun because nature does change, the atmosphere, the lighting, everything changes,” Carlos Begay, a Navajo culture and language teacher at Page High School, told KPNX news in Phoenix. "If you were to eat during an eclipse, it does cause eating disorders and even other things along the lines of disease. If you were to sleep during an eclipse, that’s where sleeping deprivation comes from, eye problems come from, that’s where blindness comes from, the list goes on."

I don't care if there is a flood next to the ocean. I mean, it sounds normal to me.

Especially if you pave over everything, and destroy the natural landscape.

Interesting developments in the Tea Party vs IRS case.

Although the arrogance of the IRS is breathtaking, it looks like they may have more than they can handle with Judge Walton. With the agency already proving that it tried to hide documents directly related to a FOIA request, how much nonsense will Walton put up with? He better have a low tolerance for word games and shenanigans by the IRS.

More names means more witnesses to be deposed under oath. Perhaps some promises of immunity are in order so that the truth can be wrung out of an agency that has been used to target the political opponents of a president and materially affect the ability of conservative groups to exercise their rights.

And Joe Biden is calling Trump a Nazi in his latest (ghost-written) Screed in the Atlantic. Of "Slow Joe" has always been a clown but venom behind the smiley face is surprising. I wonder if he'll run in 2020? For some reason both parties seem to love nominating Boomers - no matter how old.

You know, speaking of eye damage due to light, what's with these giant new mega bright white LED headlights on motorcycles that drive around with their high beams on all the time during day time. It's almost as if they don't give a flying fuck that there is an extra bump in the blue wavelengths that makes the light bright white, and that that band of light has been shown to cause retina damage.

The childish loud pipes are obnoxious enough, you know, like when we used to put playing cards or baseball cards against the spokes of our bikes with a clothespin, but this is a new level of shit-headedness.

Remember, there is no alt-left.

All we can get from the original demonstrators is that the supported Trump and oppose racism unequivocally, but we have AnitFa's word on it, which is gospel, that one of them gave a Nazi salute.

Remember that the guy who is being given a Rodney King style beating with clubs is guilty only of supporting the president. Remember also that Hitler used brownshirts to attack opposition rallies violently. None of this violence offends Democrats though. ARM assured us that the Democrats are going to win over the law and order middle class with these kinds of tactics.

Even Trump hating, lefty newspaper, SF Chronicle having hard time making it seem like a clash between equals.

"A small group of right-wing demonstrators who gathered in a Berkeley park Sunday to rail against the city’s famed progressive politics was driven out, often violently, by an army of anarchist counterprotesters in black clothing and masks whose tactics overwhelmed a huge contingent of police officers.

Hundreds of officers tried to maintain calm in and around Martin Luther King Jr. Civic Center Park before the 1 p.m. “No to Marxism in Berkeley” rally, putting up barricades, searching bags, and confiscating sticks, masks, pepper spray and even water bottles. The goal was to head off the type of clashes that sprang from similar rallies in the city earlier this year.

But once again, counterdemonstrators frustrated police efforts. As the crowd swelled, officers stepped aside and allowed hundreds of people angered by the presence of the right-wing rally to climb over the barriers into the park, said Officer Jennifer Coates, a spokeswoman for Berkeley police."

I haven't heard what they said or did that made them "right-wing" other than supporting Trump and being for freedom of speech. I guess it was the whole “No to Marxism in Berkeley” thing. Anybody who opposes communism or restrictions on free speech deserves a good beat-down with clubs!

Personally, I think the "powers that be" are hoping that somebody who's the target of antifa attack willl pass their fed up mark and give a bunch of antifa thugs terminal 9mm headaches so they can wave the bloody shirt like they tried (unsuccessfully) to do with Heather Heyer. So far the patience of the "right wing" free speech advocates has been remarkable. I'm old enough to remember the Freedom Riders and nonviolent civil rights marches that were only violent because the police stood aside (often joined in) when the screaming, drooling mob showed up. Shoe might be on the other foot now, but the parallels are obvious once you think to look.

"Christian Group Sues SPLC and Amazon Over 'Hate Group' Designation"

Interesting case. Not sure it is going that far. Essentially 3 causes of action: defamation, trademark disparagement, and religious discrimination under the Civil Rights Act.

The plaintiff makes a good argument in the defamation claims of falseness, based on a Christian group that preaches love being considered a hate group. Weakness, I think, is showing that it was a statement of fact, and not opinion. The SPLC is dead meat here if this ever gets to the Alabama jury - so it very likely won't.

The trademark claim is maybe stronger. The SPLC uses the trademarked name to accuse a religious group that preaches love to be a hate group. Surely disparagement. Problem though is maybe fair use.

Civil Rights Act religious discrimination claim against Amazon is interesting. The SPLC/Google argument seems to be that they are a hate group because the oppose same sex marriage. Scripture is cited to show the religious basis for that opposition. As a result of the SPLC determination, Amazon has denied the plaintiff participation in a program that allows charities to benefit when people designate them when shopping Amazon. The interesting twist is the argument that Amazon is a public accommodation based on its selling and streaming of movies. Obviously, the law envisioned movie houses, which this sort of providing movies essentially made obsolete.

And, with this case pointing out that Amazon uses the SPLC bogus "hate group" list to actively discriminate against Christian ministries on the basis of their religious beliefs, I am not going to utilize Ann's Amazon portal, a program somewhat similar to the one denied to the Christian group on religious grounds. making this probably worse, it is very likely that anti-gay Muslim groups are not similarly discriminated against.
