#PickleTruther.

Twitter gangs up on a 9-year-old boy who wrote a too-sweet-to-be-true letter to Trump.

But he's real. "Did a 9-year-old called ‘Pickle’ really write that letter to Trump? Yep, he’s real." (WaPo).

gadfly म्हणाले...

I wonder how long it took Donald to compose the note? All 9-year-olds wonder about Trump and how much money he has and, of course, about why people don't like him. The sentence length is about right for Donnie's writing capability, complete with misspellings.

I worry about Dylan's developmental arch. A letter like that from a 7-year-old would lie pretty close to the curve — not precocious, but certainly not grossly sub-normal. Or maybe he's just the typical product of modern education. Most schools don't even attempt to teach cursive. My friend has a 6-year-old enrolled in a private kindergarten who could manage about as well as Pickles.

Always gotta use the same tired "both sides do it" line. You don't seem to get that your just equating Trump supporters and Obama supporters, saying they're just the same. If the left and the right are the same why are you complaining so much?

Qwinn म्हणाले...

(As if this is the first president to ever show a letter written to him by a child.)

When a child writes to someone famous and they show off the letter, is that exploitation or one of the coolest things every to happen in their young life? The answer is, it's cool, at least until some "adults" step in and try to ruin it just to score some internet points.

I hope all of the snarkers step in someone's recently chewed and spit out bubble gum the next time they go for a walk.

On the contrary, the evidence suggests one is far worse, even downright creepy, more in line with the style of a North Korean elementary school, with the biggest difference being the height and hairstyle of the cult leader.

chickelit म्हणाले...

@antiphone: You're pretending that Trump didn't/doesn't have a gender gap problem. Hillary did to for that matter, but it was the mirror image.

I have yet to read a thoughtful analysis of both candidate's gender gaps in the 2016 election and aftermath. It's too painful and real, I suppose. Perhaps someone can point to a good read.

The "adults" in the White House were aware of the likely controversy that would result from reading the letter out loud and naming the author at a press conference. It was clearly a tactical move in their war with the press, but hey that's politics folks!

Boys make men.
And politics is not made by knowing so much as by feeling.
The difference between a conservative and a liberal, in any definition of either, is not a question of positions on issues, but of personality.

This was quite frustrating, for instance, to Russell Kirk. But he made lemons out of lemonade. Go buy "The Conservative Mind".

Sure, they read it for political reasons, but were the Twitter attacks making fun of the White House or the kid? The ones I saw were about Pickles, not Trump.

A child who is a fan of Trump wrote a letter. The reading of the letter was a totally "notice me senpai" moment. He got recognition. That's exciting. Why do the snarkers have to pick on him for it?

There are plenty of jokes to be made about this administration without ruining a big moment for a child. (Of course, there were plenty of jokes to be made about the last administration too.)

I questioned the use of a child --for political reasons-- by the White House. Does that automatically mean I'm defending any of the predictable attacks on the kid? of course not. Does it mean I'm endorsing the use of children's letters by previous administrations? No.

Does it make me a contestant in a chicken fucking contest? According to Rocketeer, yes.

The thing is,fame is not inherently kind.Nobody asked if he wanted to be a poster child. It looks to me like kid was used as troll bait by Sarah Huckabee Sanders subject to approval by the White House (I think it's fair to assume). I also think it's reasonable to assume that they understood there would be jokes and the usual fact checking --which could then be spun (#PickleTruther)-- and used as ammunition against Trump critics and the press in general. Modern Day Presidential!

iowan2 म्हणाले...

The left is psychotic.

It would make me proud if the Trump White House if they were so evil and so smart that, at their cold calculated brilliance, they could, at will make the left do such insanely stupid things like doxing a kid.
Letters to the President, written by kids have been publicized, since George Washington. It has taken President Trump with his super powers, to get the media to lose their mind, when something as common as breathing happens, and turns them into bullying children.
