At the Canada Café...
... you can talk about whatever you want.
The picture is an image I selected from Google Street View in Blind River, Ontario. I picked Canada as the place to virtually visit because — as blogged earlier — today is the 150th anniversary of the confederation of Canada.
(And let me remind you, as I tend to do on these café posts, to consider using The Althouse Portal as you begin a shopping trip into Amazon.)

A LOT more beautiful (breathtaking, actually) places in Canada than that. Of course, Google Street didn't (can't) visit them.
What a dump! Imagine that in my best Betty Davis voice.
The Google photo analysis blurred le cône creux because it saw a Canadian face.
"Plots" is slang for les cônes creux - Slalomer entre des plots.
Many French Candians with false teeth can't say "orange"...
"Ohio Councilman: maybe we should stop responding to repeat overdose calls".
They are spending a small fortune on nalaxone, at $36 a pop, to revive people who overdose on opioids.
This is a small facet of a much larger issue. If I invent a wonderful process to make purple popcorn, at only $36 a bag, I am unlikely to make many sales. Because very few people think it is worth $36 dollars to have their popcorn purple. But if I develop a life-saving medical device or procedure, people who want it have a "right" to it. Which means that other people have to pay for it, whether they think it's worthwhile or not.

Oh, I saw plenty of those things in Street View. It's just not what I'm interested in selecting.
"The Google photo analysis blurred le cône creux because it saw a Canadian face."
LOL. That's so mean.
What's the real story? That Trump is severely outside the norm, it ain't.
USA Today/Suffolk poll
Favorable/Unfavorable:
Trump 40/55
Pence 41/43
Dems 35/51
Media 36/50
GOP 32/55
Do you suppose Google is retaining an accessible searchable archive of all this? Would't you like to have a similar archive for the last few hundred years? Imagine what could be learned.
When I was a boy, I thought Canada was huge like America. It looked that way on my globe and maps. But if you haven't seen it yet, google North America from orbit.
From the light densities, America is mostly lit up. That small sliver hugging onto to our northern border? That's Canada.
Population 35 million. Approx 1/10th the population of America.
Right now Canada's leadership is debating whether to start a trade war against their largest trading partner, escalating over subsidized timber exports to oil and coal imports. And they are actually weighing whether they can stare down President Trump.
Canada is holding 2 aces in her hand. America has 50 in hers. Fifty. 50 Aces.
I never really liked Canada. But maybe the people outside of Quebec are cool. But you did bring us hockey. You gave this Texas boy the experience of watching Dallas bring home the Stanley Cup. Ringside.
In that spirit, I am begging every True Canadian to write to their leadership and tell them to pull their head out of their ass.
Thanks Cousin - USA
If you want to see how the American Fake News purveyors raped Quebec and stole all their tree's:
Chicago Tribune
Good thing they don't need tree's anymore...
California has 13 sanctuary cities. If the state of California is refusing to enforce federal immigration law, why are we supplying them with water?
If California is going to infect the surrounding States with 3rd World Thugs, enabling the rape and murder of their neighbors... why shouldn't one of those neighbours just turn off the water?
Seems like the problem would solve itself.

There was a piece in the NYT recently about how Ontario got New York to drop a "Buy American" policy, first through lobbying and then through economic pressure. Border states and others disproportionately dependent on Canadian money probably wouldn't think much of your pithy economics.
There are no border states that disproportionately dependent. Canada is not Arrakis.
Fen:
"Canada is holding 2 aces in her hand. America has 50 in hers. Fifty. 50 Aces."
Sure Fen, sure. We've never torn ourselves apart with a civil war or endured endless racial conflict.
We prospered at the same time you floundered during your banking crisis.
We are freer and more prosperous too.
Just curious, what are these 50 aces you claim to hold?
Well, it was back in Blind River in 1962 / When I last saw you alive
But we missed that shift on the long decline
Just as America talks tough but acts generous, Canada talks generous but acts tough. The liberals of the North are far more practical than you might guess by looking at their American counterparts.
Trudeau and Trump will work out a deal both can live with.
Gerrard, Canada has far more racial conflict than most Canadians are comfortable admitting to. Canadian superiority is in part maintained through denial of Canadian history. Canada is more free if you go by climate change legislation, but it fares less well by any real standard. See, for example, human rights tribunals.

No, instead of killing each other, you let the English do it for you. 100K Canadian war dead in WWI and WWII is less than we incurred, and less that the ACW, but then you are so much smaller. As for racial conflict and civil war, you are busy importing that, hand over fist.
"Gerrard, Canada has far more racial conflict than most Canadians are comfortable admitting to."
Really? Where?
"Canadian superiority is in part maintained through denial of Canadian history."
No, we are simply superior. You have a very good system of government but ours is a little bit better.
=Canada is more free if you go by climate change legislation, but it fares less well by any real standard. See, for example, human rights tribunals.=
You let your governments imprison fellow citizens at alarming rates. We would never tolerate that from our govts in Canada. Why do you allow it in the US?
I can safely walk the streets of any Canadian city at night. Why can't you do that in the US? It's your own country and you aren't even free to walk many of your streets. Sad.
As for our human rights tribunals, they are a laughing stock. Few Canadians pay them any heed. They possess no real power.
Bad Lieutenant:

We're not complaining BL. At least we are being killed by foreign enemies and not by our fellow citizens like you are.
