"Yes, as I said before, it's really groovy. I'd like to bore you for about 6 or 7 minutes and do a little thing..."

"Excuse me for a minute. Let me play my guitar."

Not even Hendrix could rescue such an inane composition.

M Jordan म्हणाले...

Hendrix ... meh.

Paddy O म्हणाले...

I think it's sad how men are policed from expressing their emotions.

Bay Area Guy म्हणाले...

I liked it! The guy was a maestro! Funny that his hair almost looks like Dylan's hair!

If my fingers were as long and lanky as those, I would have played the guitar too. Not as good though.

It seemed like his fingers knew what to do without his thinking about it. Gave him time to remember (mostly) the lyrics.

Absolutely one of the top ten performances in history.

It's cool and sunny today in Monterey. Perfect weather to hear that special performance on Althouse as we finish off a bottle of Proseco and pretend we are 22 again.

Ann Althouse म्हणाले...

I was 16.

traditionalguy म्हणाले...

Sweet 16 and add 50 years of success at everything. My best regards, precious Professor.

Tank म्हणाले...

Great performer, great song.

Ann Althouse म्हणाले...

Thanks, tradguy,

A cud Chewning cow,
And a gum chewing rock star,
They both look the same but different somehow.
Oh I see now, its the intelligent look on the face of the cow.

Rock's greatest guitarist plays rock's greatest song.

Not Hendrix's greatest guitar performance...
and Dylan's version of LORS is better than anyone's.

Dylan's version of LORS is better than anyone's.

But Jimi won the "All Along The Watchtower" contest.

Fantastic.

James म्हणाले...

What has to be understood is that for people like Althouse and I, Hendrix's music was completely different from anything we had ever heard. It was if he had fell to earth from outer space, seriously.

James म्हणाले...

I can understand how some people are sick of hearing and hearing about the music of 60's. We who lived through it tend to blab on and on about it and we also tend to forget how we treated with great disdain the music of our parents.

I still watch Woodstock from time to time. Some of the best performances ever in that concert.

While I hereby award both M Jordan and Jim Her a lifetime supply of free beatings for their heresy, or is it blasphemy, I will admit that the gum chewing does amaze me.

Agreed, LARS like most Dylan is indeed boring, and Jimi didn't save it. Also agreed that Hendrix owns AATW no matter who wrote it. He wrote his own stuff too and look what it shows of him. Butterflies and zebras, forsooth.

What. A. Waste. Look at all the shits now from the era who are playing well into their seventies. Imagine some chippie on the phone with him trying to get him to die. What a world!

Has it been mentioned on another thread that Hendrix refers to Dylan's grandmother in what appears to be some kind of inside joke? What was the story on that again?

chickelit म्हणाले...

@BL: Hendrix is referring to his bass guitar player, Noel Redding. I have that on my own authority.

Mockturtle relates: I still watch Woodstock from time to time. Some of the best performances ever in that concert.

I have blogged Hendrix's "Jam Back At The House" several times as a favorite. I put it up; it gets taken down by copyright owners. What a stupid game. I'm trying to sell recordings; they're trying to cut off buyers. :(

A great version of this Dylan song
