Urban Dictionary Word of the Day: Broflake.

"Straight white male offended by any feminist or ethnic activity which is not directly designed for him."

४८ टिप्पण्या:

rhhardin म्हणाले...

Those are guys who don't know about zingers.

Laslo Spatula म्हणाले...

Fauxflake: someone who goes along with the pieties of the SJWs simply to avoid social ostracism.

I am Laslo.

bwebster म्हणाले...

As with "the Coffee Party", this is an attempt to turn around a popular phrase that will fail utterly.

exiledonmainstreet, green-eyed devil म्हणाले...

The left is attempting to culturally appropriate the term "snowflake" and variations thereof because it was used to mock them and we can't have that.

White males might be offended by the Left's bigotry and sexism, but so far I haven't noticed them calling for safe spaces, coloring books and therapy dogs.

Laslo Spatula म्हणाले...

Hoflake: a promiscuous SJW.

Alternately: someone who hangs out with SJWs in the hopes of getting laid.

I am Laslo.

Tommy Duncan म्हणाले...

As a subject matter expert on straight white males I can assure you no one in the target group will pay much attention to this new term. Trendy terms of counter mockery are the exclusive province of the left. How did the Cubs do last night?

Dave from Minnesota म्हणाले...

I don't have a problem with people who aren't like me. I promise not to demand we remove any statues of communists or rainbow flags.

Laslo's advice to socially awkward college boys.....hang out with the art majors are those gals have the lowest standards when it comes to......ahhhhh......"romance".

LordSomber म्हणाले...

"Projection."

rhhardin म्हणाले...

Women's zingers are slower and played on a smaller court, like broflake.

Beloved Commenter AReasonableMan म्हणाले...

Use 'broflake' correctly in a sentence:

The Althouse commentariat is filled with broflakes.

Ann Althouse म्हणाले...

"The Althouse commentariat is filled with broflakes."

There sure are some. Will anyone own the term? Confess! I'm going to use this term, because it is often a justified taunt, especially aimed at men who call women and young people "snowflakes." I don't like "snowflakes," but if you use that term, you'd better not be a "broflake."

Clever response to Laslo on several levels.

Dave from Minnesota म्हणाले...

I think the difference is that snowflakes hate it that people not like them even exist.
"Broflakes" do not hate those not like them, we hate it when the snowflakes act out in public against my people and try to ban us from the public discourse.

Did any "Broflakes" try to ban gay pride parades this past weekend?

Tommy Duncan म्हणाले...

I don't like "snowflakes," but if you use that term, you'd better not be a "broflake."

"Oh please Brer Ann, whatever you do, please don't throw me into the broflake patch."

Titus म्हणाले...

the comment section here is littered with broflakes and homo haters.

Eleanor म्हणाले...

"Snowflake" predates 2017 by at least 30 years. Teachers used it to describe bright students who melted under pressure. It wasn't necessarily derogatory. There are some kids who do very well when they can use concrete thinking in the lower grades, but find the transition to more analytically thinking difficult. They lose their position at the top of the class- at least for awhile. They "melt"

JAORE म्हणाले...

And here's to all you Woflakes... same definition with a single change.

traditionalguy म्हणाले...

That is not nice to ridicule men who suffer from the TWIN CURSE :being simultaneously White and Heterosexual. That is almost too much to live down in one lifetime. Sex change or artificial tanning is the only hope. And just think how much more terrible it would be if one of these accursed victims is also part of one of the universally hated profession called Lawyers.

exiledonmainstreet, green-eyed devil म्हणाले...

Whatever happened to good old fashioned flakes? The lady down the street who read tarot cards and believed she was Marie Antoinette in a past life, for instance.

Everything's become so complicated.

Oso Negro म्हणाले...

It is possible to not give a shit what women and rainbow warriors are up to on any given day while preferring that they not shit all over your traditional culture. And no, Titus, this place is not full of homo-haters. I don't require you to celebrate my sexual deviancy, and the fact that I refuse to celebrate yours dies not make me a "hater".

tcrosse म्हणाले...

Cornflake: Person upset by jokes about Iowa.

Ignorance is Bliss म्हणाले...

Straight white male offended by any feminist or ethnic activity which is not directly designed for him.

The Althouse commentariat is filled with broflakes.

Bullshit. I won't say there are none, but there are vanishingly few people who meet that definition. There are some number of straight white males who are offended by the hypocrisy of people who hold event that exclude straight white males, but who would scream bloody murder if a group of straight white males held an event that excluded them. And there are more who are not offended, but still point out the hypocrisy as a way of holding people to their own standards.

....and a third. Gay dude here, I come to Althouse for diversity of opinion, and even when things get a little crude or heated here, I detect little in the way of bro-flakes or homophobes or genuine meanness. Some of us can take a joke :)

Titus is all butt-hurt because Laslo Spatula is much funnier than he ever was. Who has been here long enough to recall Titus's tributes to his "hog"? I recollect one of the first Titus posts that I was exposed to was a detailed description of a bowel movement he had, and then how he paid extra attention to prepping his anus in anticipation of finding a hot Indian at a club later that evening - might have involved some special talc. That stuff was never on topic but did provide some comic respite from more serious matters being discussed.

CJinPA म्हणाले...

"Broflake," a derivative of "Snowflake."

Like everything else, they needed a straight, white male to build it for them to use.

Peter Irons म्हणाले...

And then there is the term "throwflake" for idiots who throw names at people instead of actually making an argument.

Gahrie म्हणाले...

I'm pretty sure Althouse considers me a broflake. I would say i am opposed to discrimination and hypocrisy.

Hoflake: Women who sleep around in a desperate search for intimacy.

chamblee54 म्हणाले...

In a spasm of synchronicity, I was writing a blog post about words that I find amusing. Broflake was on the list. I finished writing before all of the humor enabled comments here were posted. I could include them, but I was at exactly 666 words, and you don't want to change that.

Bay Area Guy म्हणाले...

I'm not sure "Hey, I'm not a Snowflake, but you're a Bro-flake!" is the most clever retort.

It sounds like the gay version of "I know you are but what am I."

But, Hey, I am not opposed in principle to letting the "Bros" have it. People who are willing to dish it out, must be willing to take it.

So, I support the concept of the "Bro-flake" -- but I'm still wrestling with its application, or whether there is a funnier alternative.

You have to admit, though, that the Snowflake/Cupcake/Pajama Boy/Beta Male continuum still reigns supreme in the kingdom of lefty putdowns.

Howard म्हणाले...

Althouse: The safe space for Broflakes who suffer effects from micro-dosing on Fox and Friends

Anthony म्हणाले...

This is the converse of "snowflake", which would be any woman or gay or non white man who is offended at the existence of something not specifically designed for them. So it's a useful term, but not nearly as useful as "snowflake".

It's why I don't think the second prof, the one who went on Tucker Carlson, probably shouldn't be fired. I'm not offended when black people, or women, or gays want to have their own spaces. I do get offended when they complain that male spaces shouldn't be allowed, or that something is not black-friendly when it's not about race, etc.

ALP म्हणाले...

Almost as good as Limbaugh's Feminazi.

alan markus म्हणाले...

There are several Urban Dictionary definitions of "Broflake" - one I have not seen yet, would be "Unhinged Old White Liberal SWJ-type male Bernie supporter". As in, "Look what that crazy Broflake just did! Grabbed a weapon and tried to take out some Republican Congressmen"

I think that one could stick.

Bob Loblaw म्हणाले...

Whatever happened to good old fashioned flakes? The lady down the street who read tarot cards and believed she was Marie Antoinette in a past life, for instance.

You know, these people would be a lot more believable if they said "I've had a dozen past lives and they were all peasants and fishermen." I mean, based on the odds that's what we should be hearing.

Matt म्हणाले...

Women and minorities bitch for decades about how there isn't enough shit designed and created only for them but when normal male crackers do it, all of a sudden there is a problem. Makes total sense, of course.

Speaking for myself, I didnt realize everyone was obsessed with us normal cracker dudes and wanting our approval. Sure, they'll say they don't want our approval, but this all falls in the "methinks thou doth protest too much" camp. Why can't you quit us?

Real American म्हणाले...

The reality is no one is offended by any of this bullshit. It's all a power play, but the left needs to live by its own ridiculous rules, so here we are.

Char Char Binks, Esq. म्हणाले...

@Mott

Too soon.

BN म्हणाले...

In my neighborhood, "motherfucker" is still the preferred term. I've never heard anyone called a "flake" of any sort.

This is flake news.

Unknown म्हणाले...

I think the phrases "white fragility" or "fragile masculinity" work better as insults. Broflake loses something in the translation: a flake is someone who shirks responsibility. Some people would take that as a compliment.

Glen Filthie म्हणाले...

Sure, why not?

As a straight white male it is my fault that every disgruntled lesbian, every marginal millennial, every illiterate vibrant, every shreieking femcnut, and every sexual freak show under the sun - isn't happy with the life they made for themselves. I learned long ago to so sides the source of the insult before pulling my guns or putting up my dukes. If stupid people want to call me names I am good with it, it's not like their taunts carry any weight. Long as they don't get in my face with it, they can fill there boots. Eventually they are going to have to own their failures, that's just how life is.

So it is that stupid people hurl insults as the nation burns - at the only guys that can heal it and run it.
