The fear of terrorism can kill.

Look how one mentally disturbed woman making noise caused a stampede on the NYC subway yesterday.
An emotionally disturbed woman who somehow scared riders on a B train near Central Park West sparked a panic at the height of Wednesday's morning rush, with straphangers tweeting about "mass evacuations" and "people stampeding," authorities said.
Just the day before, we heard about passengers panicking on the NYC subway that just got stuck between stations for an hour.

Just life in the post-Obama big city. Nothing to see. Move on says Mayor Kahn.

Actual Islamophobia.

I think the average urban dweller is finally realizing that when terrorism strikes, they will be the proverbial "fish in the barrel" that is being targeted. The urban elite will be able to insulate themselves and allow their less affluent neighbors be collateral damage in their multicultural urban utopia.

Me, I'll stay in the suburbs, thank you very much.

Yeah, but they don't count. They're just "hillbillies" according to one of our regular commenters.

Better than that, we live in a Trump majority precinct outside city limits.

The city is Tucson with a majority city council of loony left.

Maybe it was wackophobia.

Like yelling FIRE! in a movie theater.

Every so often some psycho pushes someone onto the subway tracks. For the next few days, I don't stand at the edge of the platform, but the moment eventually passes and I start leaning out to see if the train is coming.......Theres been a spate of attacks. It's part of our consciousness, but it will pass. The important thing is to not let such feelings bleed into unwarranted suspicions of psychos and guys with fierce beards and prayer hats.

You must know of the passing of Bob, Mal's brother?

Also heavy police action two places north of me yesterday. The suspense mounts.

But I thought it was those hick Trump voters in flyover country who were driven by hatred and fear of The Other, while urbanites so delight in Our Diversity they create sanctuary cities?

Those people on the subway just haven't learned to be Boston Strong yet.

First, I incorrectly pronounced "straphangers" as "strah-FAYNE-jers" the first time I read through.

Second, they panicked ONLY when they were stuck between stations for an hour? I've ridden the subway, and begin stuck inside the tube for any length of time can be panic-inducing.

Except in airports... and now underground trains.

I thought mine shafts were supposed to be safe?

Who can forget the plaintive yelping by Michael Moore et al about how wrong the islamists were to target New York since Dallas or some other red state location would have been more appropriate.

Nothing treasonous or unpatriotic about that. No siree bob.

Well, Drago, as Ritmo informed us yesterday:

Conservatives are not normal people. They're dividers.

When NYC gets hit again, it won't be like 9-11. I will have to bite my tongue and struggle to offer thoughts and prayers to the people who have been treating me as subhuman for the last 8 years.

"What? The NYTs building and staff were incinerated and obliterated? That's so tragic. They were fellow Americans. Hashtag thoughts and prayers"

Will that suffice?

DanTheMan म्हणाले...

>>Will that suffice?

No. You will have to light a candle, and put a teddy bear next to it. History shows us that this is the most used technique to prevent future attacks.

This must be what JF Kerry meant by terror as nuisance.

Lots of people stressing over a theoretical backlash against Muslims Thursday or Friday as sweat poured from their brows Wednesday.

I have long wondered if social media could be used in the manner of "War of the Worlds" - spreading a possible, but phony crisis that causes a significant number of the population to panic.

How would we know? You assume we would find out the truth of the matter someday.

I'm skeptical about that.

This has already happened. See: "Russians hacked election"

Agree with DanTheMan, more will be needed. I am going to launch a new franchise operation called (tentatively) BearsYourTerror which will set up kiosks full of plush toys, candles and fairly-fresh flowers near the most-likely spots for the next atrocity. Inquire now for favorable terms, early participation may make you a lot of money.

How did they arrive at 'emotionally disturbed'? There are other possibilities, like mental illness and drug abuse. Or maybe she was wearing hijab and they had to provide a benign reason for her threatening outbursts.
