Did he really ever promise?

"Trump Will Allow ‘Dreamers’ to Stay in U.S., Reversing Campaign Promise."

ADDED: The link goes to the NYT, where I imagine them getting any news about Trump and thinking: Trump did it... why is it bad?

This is a case of Trump doing something that policy-wise is what the NYT wants. But Trump did it, so why is it bad? Trump broke a promise!
The decision is a reversal from Mr. Trump’s anti-immigrant rhetoric during the campaign and is likely to disappoint some of the president’s most ardent supporters, who view program started by former President Barack Obama as an illegal grant of amnesty.

During the campaign, Mr. Trump repeatedly agreed with that sentiment. At one rally last summer, Mr. Trump vowed to “immediately terminate” the DACA program, saying that Mr. Obama had “defied federal law and the Constitution.”...
At one rally.... Eh. I never believed he'd deport "Dreamers." Did you?

Did you believe Trump was going to deport the "Dreamers"?

Everything Trump does which the media approves must be presented as a betrayal of his base.

Lyle Smith म्हणाले...

I think he actually said he hoped he could find a way for them to stay.

Bad Lieutenant म्हणाले...

Does this mean they are off the hook even if they join gangs, drive drunk, kill people? Surely not.

Laslo Spatula म्हणाले...

Dreamers?

Weren't we just talking about Lennon's "Imagine"?

"You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope some day you'll join us
And the world will be as one"

Imagine there's no immigration laws.

It's easy if you try.

I am Laslo.

Matt Sablan म्हणाले...

Whoa now. That's not the Hitler Trump I was told we were getting.

Kevin म्हणाले...

Does this mean they are off the hook even if they join gangs, drive drunk, kill people? Surely not.

Dreamers are here conditionally. They've already deported one for leaving the country without permission.

Kate म्हणाले...

The Deplorables don't want to deport energetic young people who will live the American Dream while funding SSI.

Which was understood all along by reasonable people on the Right. If only the NYT knew some reasonable Righties...

Lyle Smith म्हणाले...

Bad Lieutenant,

No, if they're criminals they're not off the hook... at least based on his speeches.

अनामित म्हणाले...

I guess if the "Dreamers" get to stay so will Mom and Dad, all the sibs, grandma, grandpa, etc.

Michael K म्हणाले...

I have all along thought that, once the border is secure and the immigration problem is solved, a partial amnesty would be part of the deal. The trouble with Simpson Mazzoli was that amnesty came first

Once written, twice... म्हणाले...

I am glad to see Trump do the right thing.

The Cracker Emcee Refulgent म्हणाले...

The seriously but not literally thing, again. I don't for a second believe he's going to build A Wall. I do believe he's going to make a good faith effort to enforce immigration law. Such a small and, really, uncontroversial thing. And you threw away the White House for that, Hillary? I bet she spews a stream of racist obscenities every time the limo drives by a Hispanic dude with a leaf-blower.

Birkel म्हणाले...

America should impose reciprocal policies when it suits her. Let other countries live by their own restrictive laws.

Once written, twice... म्हणाले...

Have you also noticed that talk about The Wall has also faded?

John henry म्हणाले...

Once written,

I am still hoping for a wall, or at least a secure border if there might be some other way.

We seem to be getting it just with talk, though. Illegal entry is way down, lots of illegal aliens returning to their home countries. We have a virtual wall and it seems to be working.

As well as a permanent wall? Perhaps not but a lot cheaper. My main objection to a virtual wall is that it could disappear the moment President Trump leaves office.

First of all I detest the term Dreamers. It just reeks of emotional manipulation. I resent being emotionally manipulated, plus it really doesn't work on me.

On the other hand, having known many of these young people who were brought here as small children, illegally by their parents, and who have spent their entire lives living in the US, going to schools, working summers on the ranches or at the local Frosty, I have great sympathy for them.

I'm not talking about those illegal aliens who have carted themselves over the border at the age of 16 or 18 and who the media insists on calling children or that stupid term Dreamers. Those can and should be deported. I am talking about little children who have had no choice in the matter.

The problem or the Devil is in the details on letting these young adults stay with no consequences.

1. What about the rest of their family. The illegal mom and dad, other relatives, siblings that get citizen rights because they were squirted out on US soil (a policy which I disagree heartily with) Do the parents get a free pass because they toted some kids across the line with them? I don't think so.

2. At what age would we consider deporting the young adults. 18?

3. How do you weed out the 'fake' Dreamers from those who are actual victims, children who had no choice.

4. UNTIL the border is secured and we have rational immigration policies, why should we pick out special cases to allow to break the laws?

Just because you Dream about something doesn't mean that you are allowed to get it or have other people give it to you. I dream about owning a 1968 Mercedes 280 SL. Who wants to pony up the money and give it to me?

Either we have LAWS or we don't. Either people pay attention and heed the laws or NO one has to. I am leaning towards the latter.

Lucien म्हणाले...

If President Trump only succeeds at one thing, it should be enforcing the country's immigration laws. I would prefer it if he did so by requiring use of the e-verify system and cracking down on employers so hard that no one would ever hire an illegal alien again for anything. Then let economic incentives do their work. Deportation need not be a priority, but when someone is found to be here illegally they should be deported, and DNA samples should be taken, so that if they ever try to enter the country again, they can be blocked.

Dear corrupt left, go F yourselves म्हणाले...

Once again - the GOP fall into the leftwing trap. "If I do something to appease the left, they will like me."

bullshit. The left are stalinists.

do what is right, Trump. Not what is PC.

If any person is here illegally - they need to go and come back thru legal channels.

Exactly. The left create these terms in order to manipulate us. Period. Emotional blackmail is what they do best.

See rescinding DAPA. DACA is reasonable if programs like DAPA are deep-sixed. (Whether DAPA was ever a "go" in the first place, I don't know, but I'm sure the usual suspects, who were wailing about "innocent children, no fault of their own!", will ditch that argument immediately and revert to the "tearing families apart" tack.)

HoodlumDoodlum म्हणाले...

Has anyone checked on Ann Coulter??

The Godfather म्हणाले...

This action or inaction doesn't solve the fundamental problem: The laws enacted by Congress and signed by the President prohibited these people from entering the country and prohibit them from remaining here. The oh-so-clever Obama came up with schemes (DAPA, DACA) to avoid the law. I thought that Trump did condemn Obama's lawless actions. What Trump should be doing is propose legislation to Congress -- or, if Congress's plate is too full right now, call on Congress to address the immigration issue next year. Meanwhile, allowing the status quo to continue with respect to DACA (it is in effect) and DAPA (it is not in effect) seems reasonable.

BN म्हणाले...

I never believed Trump would build a wall or deport the poor "innocent" dreamers. At least not until his second term.

One has to have something to believe in.

Wow!! Dream BIG dreams Michael!!!. Lots of endorphins in dreaming :-)

The 76 Mercedes is nice too, but it has those God awful ugly bumpers that were foisted on us by dumb government regs.

DHunter म्हणाले...

I care very deeply about Trump leaving DACA in place because it is an illegal program and should not exist! What is it about illegal aliens being given amnesty causing further illegal immigration that everyone doesn't understand?

Multiple articles on the web today regarding the Democrats losing blue-collar voters because of their affinity towards illegal (and legal) immigration due to perceived (and real) job losses. Does anyone really think that major corporation CEOs support amnesty for illegals out of the goodness of their hearts (hint-they don't have hearts)? No way. It's because they get workers who will accept lower wages which will lead to higher profits which will lead to the CEOs hitting their profit targets and therefore they will get larger annual bonuses and stock option awards. This is something the undocumented immigrant supporters don't understand, mostly through obtuseness.

Rick म्हणाले...

Trump should not have withdrawn the policy. Leaving it even temporarily allows supporters to shift their resources into expanding amnesty to all illegals rather than using their resources to defend this policy.

Did you look at the price ?

About 1976, a friend had just completely restored a MB 300 SL gullwing. He was getting divorced and offered it to me for $19,000.

I didn't buy it. If you want investment advice, ask me and do the opposite.

He already rescinded the Obamacare mandate.

Today he is rolling back Obama's failure on Cuba.

Every week it seems he rolls back another Obama Executive order. The pipelines are already being built.

Hillary is still not president.

And we are grateful he is taking on leviathan. You are going to see unmistakable support for Trump an the difference is it will be enduring because it was earned unlike Obama's fake support due to a grossly sycophantic media.

I am already looking forward to the bloodbath democrats will experience in 2018 against all historical norms.

GRW3 म्हणाले...

Art of the Deal. I want to know more about the whole picture.

The problem wasn't necessary the dreamer kids. The problem was the Obama intent to use dreamers as anchors for every known relative and some people they just met.

The news media wouldn't tell the truth about DACA, it was just reported as "opponents hate kids".

MrCharlie2 म्हणाले...

I'm part of the 2% in this poll, but I have to agree with the majority that no one sensibly believes Trump

Birkel म्हणाले...

When they turn 18, what should happen? I suggest forcing each of their respective countries to issue visas through the normal channels, subject to whatever legal requirements are already on the books. Lying on the forms, illegal activities and failure to timely secure proper forms should result in adults losing any privileges.

Chip away, careful to observe the long game.

n.n म्हणाले...

The disruption has already occurred and largely absorbed. The issue now is excessive immigration and the multiple causes for immigration "reform". That is avoidance of addressing issues for emigration reform including illegal immigration and mass emigration including the refugee crises. Also the conflicts of interests demonstrated by Democrats pursuing gerrymandered districts and welfare profiteering, businesses that enjoy high density population centers, and Planned Parenthood and civil rights groups that hide human rights issues inside distractions.

Michael K म्हणाले...

I think the GOP Congress has to get some work done. They have a year,

Dodd-Frank was a start. If the Senate will get a does of testosterone and pass the bill, and they get Obamacare repealed,

Then it will be a blowout and Inga will be very surprised.

Dreamers are a low priority, always were. I don't want to remove the threat of deportation, but I'm opposed to going after the ones who otherwise obey the law. We have more important fish to throw back in the sea.
