Trump spoke yesterday at the private residence of Israeli president Benjamin Netanyahu. Full transcript
here. Excerpts:
[T]hank you for that beautiful tour. Melania is still talking about it.... This is a land filled with beauty, wonder, and the spirit of God. I’ve been amazed by the glorious and beautiful monuments and holy sites, and the generosity of your incredible people. Because it’s all about the people....
The themes are: 1. Love for the human beings, and 2. Respect for what is inanimate, this place. Everyone knows love for human beings come first. Here they are in this beautiful place. And he just came from another beautiful place:
In my visit to Saudi Arabia, I met with many leaders of the Arab and Muslim world, including King Salman, who treated us so beautifully and really wants to see great things happen for the world. He really does. I got to know him well, and he really does.
Really, really, really. Love, love, love. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful.
We are willing to work together. I believe that a new level of partnership is possible and will happen.... It’s not easy. I’ve heard it’s one of the toughest deals of all, but I have a feeling that we’re going to get there eventually, I hope.
Deals. That's his special skill. Making deals. But out there in his business life, he was on one side, trying to close a deal if he could get a good one and also willing to walk away. Here, he's the mediator between 2 sides, not making a deal of his own, and there's nowhere to walk away to, just an endless unmade deal in the same old place. But it's a beautiful, amazing place. Melania is still talking about it.

Yeah, and Bush looked into Putin's soul.
Whatever Trump says will be scrutinized and criticized- so speaking in positive syrupy generalities is a smart move. Love, love, love. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. Amazing. The business deals and security agreements can be done behind the scenes.
This is Trump's way of talking. Bush and Eisenhower were both attacked as mush mouths. Eisenhower kind if did it on purpose.
Bill Clinton was much smoother in manner and Obama was very "cool."
I guess it depends on what you are looking for.
Like chandeliers and gold plating, it wasn't dark, it wasn't carnage.
Trump's 10 cent vocabulary is part of what people love about him.
Love.
Trying to get a deal between those two sides is an obsession of all presidents. The middle east is where your dreams die. Best to keep out of that mess; eventually the locals will work it out, probably in the worst way possible.
Trump isn't an outside third party. It's a three-way deal. He's on the American side.
I haven't been actively following, but is there any Manchester outrage from the Muslim community. I think not.
There's the deal Trump is working on.
Actually, a lot of real estate development involves getting other parties to make deals, e.g., getting your tenant to agree with your lender, getting your architect to agree with your general contractor. Trump discusses one such instance in "The Art of the Deal," where he discusses intermediating between Hyatt Corp. (his franchisor) and his lender.
We walked away from Iraq. We changed the rules in Afghanistan. We are on a progressive adventure in Africa. We intruded in Libya, Syria, Ukraine, and redistributed the collateral damage to Norway, Britain, Germany, America, etc. These deals are done all the time.
Trump has a magic stick and carrot approach that seems to make people to want to settle their differences. But it works better on murderous Muslims than it works on the murderous Clintons and their paid stable of wimps like Comey.
I for one wish him well, and not just because I voted for him.
One of the big concerns I've had about President Trump has always been his ability to translate his business acumen into governmental leadership both foreign and domestic. It's an entirely different ballgame when your competitors can just say screw you and walk away. He is not sole owner of the company anymore, and the other players aren't reliant on him for their paycheck.
I'm really impressed by his cabinet choices. (I'm thinking Rex 'This isn't my first sword dance' Tillerson may be the absolute best Sec of State choice ever), but worried by his management style when they have to constantly have to cover for his bombast and he is seemingly not entirely sure what exactly they are up to. Delegation is one thing, but I'd like to see them on the same page at the very least.
In a sense he is using the same branding techniques he used for the Trump brand for the USA. I'm sure the people he needs to convince to back his brand, have been flattered enough they are pretty immune to it, but I constantly see the people he deals with impressed by Donald Trump the man. Check the mood they are in when they come out of a private conference with him.
I can see how his mannerisms and use of the language are off-putting to people, but I tend to see it as an overall positive. The establishment is threatened and was going to hate on him even if he had a silver tounge.
Anyway, I think it is beautiful and bigly huge.
Many people sing about love. Others sing about their great battles. Israelis do that too. But they also sing about their land. Maybe most of their favorite songs are about the land. Al Kol Eleh, Ein Gedi, Yerushalayim shel Zahav, Ha'ir beafor, even Sharm al Sheikh, the list is endless. That's not even counting the religious songs about the land.
He played the part of a deal maker on tv.
