Comey's delicate stomach: connecting "just completely disgusted" with "mildly nauseous."

An emailer connected these 2 expressions of Comey's, and I subsequently noticed this comment in last night's post about Comey's "just completely disgusted" remark, from hombre:
July 5, 2016. That was the day that anyone with integrity and associated with, or knowledgeable about, law enforcement understood that Comey was a lapdog for his Democrat masters.

His sanctimonious posturing makes me a lot more than "mildly nauseous."
The "mildly nauseous" phrase came from Comey's May 5, 2017 testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee. (He said "It makes me mildly nauseous to think that we might have had some impact on the election." July 5, 2016 was the date Comey determined that "no reasonable prosecutor" would proceed against Hillary Clinton over the email matter.)

And I found this from CNN last night connecting the recent "just completely disgusted" with "mildly nauseous." They played a clip of Comey's friend Benjamin Witte saying:
Comey really did not want to go to that meeting. He just really doesn't believe that the president and the FBI director should, you know, have any kind of social relationship or, you know, shows of warmth…. And so if you watch the video, he extends his hand and Comey's arms are really long and he extends his hand kind of preemptively and Trump grabs the hand and kind of pulls him into a hug but the hug is entirely one-sided. Comey was just completely disgusted by [OTHER VOICE: Disgusted?] disgusted by the episode. He thought it was an intentional attempt to compromise him in public.
After some discussion, the host Chris Cuomo said: "[L]et's not forget who James Comey is in our political context. He said was -- felt, you know, nauseated by it. He was also seen nauseous -- as inducing nausea -- by Democrats for what he did."

Disgust and nausea are synonymous. I think it's interesting — but what exactly does it mean? — that Comey expresses himself with the metaphor of an aversion to or a revulsion after eating. I don't know how enlightening that might be about his psychology. As you think about it, you might want to factor in the vivid, horrible experience Comey had when he was 16.

IMPEACH TRUMP! OBSTRUCTION!

They are just not very bright people. They are being led around like little idiots and they are happy as clams. Apparently some Russians bought some condo's in a building Trump built. Collusion for sure.

You can't even parody these people.

From the story linked at the end of the post, this quote from Comey: "“We escaped, he caught us again, we escaped again – so it was a pretty horrific experience. Frightening to anybody, but especially for a younger person to be threatened with a gun and to believe you’re going to be killed by this guy. It most affects me in giving me a sense of what victims feel. Even the notion that no one was physically harmed doesn’t mean no one was harmed, because I thought about that guy every night for five years.”

That may be but it was not the casual force of his actions. It had more to do with signaling to the good people in DC that he shunned the other. Trump was just not one of the good people and Trump's supporters were particularly "deplorable." Comey is part of the ruling class. He is part of the DC insider machine that looks down on the rest of the country. I guarantee he voted for Hillary along with well over 90% of DC voters.

They especially look down on the idiots that are following their lead and supporting their coup against the elected president.

As a Canadian let me say I think you people have lost your collective mind. The news is perpetually full of third hand comments being hashed and rehashed. Comey is alive. If he wrote a memo it is available. If you cannot get the story from Comey, supported by his memo, then you have no story and what you are doing is by definition fake news. Even if parts of it turn out to be accurate it is still fakery. People used to understand such things.

I urge you to read the article posted at the end.

It eventually tells the story of how a man was almost railroaded as a rapist. He was known by all to be a fine man and the arrest was made due to a dubious "Apache Tracker" (talk about cultural appropriation!) and the eyewitnesses (including the two Comey boys) seeing a photo.

Later, no eyewitnesses picked the accused man out of a live lineup. Save one:

The youngest rape victim said she was too frightened to view a line-up on November 7, but the other two agreed. Neither picked out Bruce, Sr.. Nor did the family across the street from the Comey home. One of the Comey boys – it is not clear which – did pick out Bruce, Sr.. The other did not.

Guess which Comey brother I would bet my bottom dollar on.

I watched that video a dozen times and cannot see any honest person could call that pat on the back greeting a HUG or even attempted hug. Most fake fake news yet. The same lamebrain operatives are saying Trump bending over to have a Saudi medal placed around his neck was "bowing."

Yes, the story at the end is quite interesting and one I have read about before several years ago, but without the detail about the eye-witness identification by one of the Comey brothers. Someone should ask the former FBI director if his was the only ID of an innocent man.

Eddie Willers instinct is the same as mine- the story doesn't identify which Comey brother for a very obvious reason.

That was when he picked sides, and showed that he had been compromised. I suspect that a lot of the lawyers out there, who aren't doctrinaire leftists, and who have read the laws in question, probably went "huh?" Comey laid out facts showing, at a minimum, gross negligence, and very likely general intent, and which could probably be leveraged into specific intent, given her long term experience in security matters, then said that no prosecutor would try the case because they couldn't prove intent - when the actual requisite mens rea is gross negligence. It made no logical, legal sense. If he had instead said that no DC (which she ultimately won by some obscene margin) jury would convict, despite the obvious lawbreaking, he would have been fine. But a jury here in MT would have convicted in a heart beat, and probably sentenced her to consecutive life terms..Ditto for much of the rest of the country. It was only that no Obama/Lynch USA would try the case, and no DC jury would convict, that she was able to skate.

I'll just leave this here-

The source behind the New York Times Comey memo article is the husband of a Clinton advisor. Source Benjamin Wittes is married to Clinton advisor Tamara Wittes. Tamara Wittes was a senior advisor to Secretary of State Clinton and a senior advisor to the Clinton campaign.

Living in DC is like going into one of those trashy stores so filled with junk that you end up buying a cuckoo clock that plays tunes from the Sound of Music on the hour because it seems a good thing compared to the rest of what's there. Similarly in DC as it is now even a good person such as Comey can lose his sense of what is right. Inside DC Comey came to feel that taking over the functions of the DOJ was a good idea because he lived in a world where the Attorney General, the head of the DOJ, secretly met with the ex-President of the US while the wife of the ex-President was being investigated for keeping classified information on an unsecured server while Secretary of State. And she was now running for President. But it wasn't a good idea because Comey still could not order a prosecution. He therefore ended up laying out a case under which anyone but Hillary Clinton would have been prosecuted and then appearing to be the one who made a decision to decline to prosecute because he said prosecution would not be "reasonable." In DC that statement may have seemed "reasonable." Outside DC it made Comey a Clinton enabler and a part of the election. Then in October Comey announced another investigation and then cleared Hillary again before he could really have done any investigating. Only in DC as it now is would anyone with any sense, let alone integrity, do a thing like that.

This why people outside DC want President Trump to "drain the swamp." And the swamp is responding with fevered, irrational statements, with fever dreams of eternal investigations, with sketchy leaks and outright lying the stated intent of which is to damage the President of the United States as much as possible, with the stated intent of overthrowing the US election of 2016. In vis world it all makes sense. But everyone who acts on what makes sense in DC at this point is damaging xemself just as Comey did and for the same reason. What makes sense in DC right now does not make sense elsewhere in the US. It doesn't really make sense at all anywhere. No wonder Comey is mildly nauseated when per thinks about what per did.

I have to wonder if someone with Comey's background should be allowed to become a prosecutor. If he has such a visceral sympathy with crime victims, how willing would he be to bend the rules to bring a conviction? How many innocent people do you suppose he put away as a prosecuting attorney?

This is an instance-- the verb 'nauseate' and the adjective 'nauseous'-- when the historical resources of the OED would be useful. I learned these things in public school in Ohio in the 60s but I think 'society' just don't care any longer to make the distinctions necessary to preserve the received usage. 'Not well educated' is what I think when I hear people indulging this, but the world goes merrily on without any attention to my judgments, Deo gratias.

No, Inga, I know this falls on deaf ears, but it really is not a singular opinion. A large percentage of the world thinks we are nuts. Not because we elected DJT, (most think "America First" is an obvious path for America) but because we are destroying ourselves from within. Your thoughtless acceptance of anti-Trump talking points is one of the causes of their bemusement. It really doesn't help any of us towards our own betterment.

I've tried on multiple occasions to get you and your fellow travelers to become involved in a civil intelligent discussion about policy and direction with little or no result, but would like to try once more. You can do better than this.

@ARM
McCarthy was defending a guy who is a good,long-time friend. Here's what he said later about Comey's action:

“It’s the kind of situation that the rules are designed for to keep you out of trouble. And in particular, I’m talking about the rules that govern when prosecutors and FBI agents can speak to the media and when they can’t. He decided to play under his own rules because he thought that, under the circumstances, that’s what the protection of the FBI’s reputation or integrity required.”

“I admire his motivation,” added Mccarthy, but I think what he did, actually, in the end, is inexcusable. Whether it’s a firing offense or not, it’s the president’s call to make, and obviously, the president made it.”

At the very least McCathy is conflicted on a personal level. On a professional level he clearly feels Comey was wrong.

and ,ARM, if you Google "Andrew McCarthy" you will find that the articles below that Red state link aren't real helpful to your Andrew McCarthy case. But you knew that already. That's why you ignored all those quotes yesterday then got snotty when I teased you about it.
