"Donald, Mr President, you are an excellent businessman," said Shinzo Abe, the Prime Minister of Japan...

... "praising Trump on everything from his meteoric political rise to his golf game."

At the link, a nice picture of Abe with his right hand nestled in Trump's 2 hands and the news that Trump declared Abe's hands "strong." And:
"When I greeted him today at the car," Trump said after an Oval Office meeting, "I shook hands, but I grabbed him and hugged him because that's the way we feel."
He just grabbed him. And Abe let him. Because he's a star.

Shortly after, Abe said "You Americans have such large penis."

The Japanese run an annual $100 billion dollar trade deficit vs. the USA and get us to defend Japan.

Pretty good for a country that attacked us and killed 100,000 Americans in WW 2.

But those Japs sure are stupid... unlike us.

Friends with "benefits"? Benefits are defined differently outside of a pseudo-polygamist liberal culture. No, just friends, and partners. Note: Despite the progress of a cosmopolitan ethos, the behavior of partners does not have hypererotic implications. Sometimes a potato is just a potato, and a partner is just a partner, and friends are just partners or perhaps potatoes.

The Japanese somehow get their crops picked and run their country run without massive immigration.

In 2050 Japan will still be Japan and just as rich. The USA will be god knows what in 2050.

Yeah, those Japs sure are stupid.

Good thing he only grabbed his hands. A new bromance, Putin will be jealous.

As a lifelong shinnichi, I applaud the obvious good will between Trump and Abe and hope it bodes well for our continued relationship.

Precisely, and clearly demonstrating Obama's policy of becoming Putin's little bitch was rather I'll conceived.

Well, live and learn.

Carry on!

Abe was probably pretty uncomfortable being hugged like that. It's not something Japanese people do unless they're aping foreigners.

That was pretty good diplomacy. But if Trump beats him on their high stakes golf bets, will winning the cash be accused of being an imolument?.

Indubitably!

Wait, you mean the President didn't BOW to Abe? What will the international community think of us?!

YOU came up with that? Damn Drago, and here I thought you were just come internet commenter.

Having an actual leader, instead of a puffed up idiot, is a breath of fresh air. Trump has already proven to be much better at foreign policy than Obama.

But then again an empty chair would have done a better job than Obama.

Who knew than when Obama told the Russians he would have more flexibility after the election he was referring to his impotence issues right?

I'm gonna go out on a limb here. I'm gonna volunteer my posting leadership to this blog. A blog without posting leaders is like a foot without a big toe. And Laslo Spatula isn't always gonna be here to be that big toe for us. I think that we owe a big round of applause to our newest, bestest buddy, and big toe, Laslo Spatula.

Sooner or later, people are going to figure out that Trump is a people person. If you want something from him, you show up, tell him how awesome he is, and listen to him tell you how awesome he is at much greater length.

Trump gets energized by deals and relationships and pie in the sky promises. So if you want to be on his good side you let him make a fuss about you, make big complicated plans and talk about how great it's all going to be once it's done.

A really interesting essay by Joe Posnanski about his interactions with Trump:

Again, I’m not talking politics here — I try not to talk politics publicly. I do enough of that with friends and family to annoy. But I will say that when I was interviewing Trump for The Secret of Golf, we were both playing our part, author and subject, but every now and again he would just blurt out, “Joe, this is going to be a great book, Joe, a great book. We’re going to sell a lot of books together, Joe, a lot of books.” I appreciated him for that and have not quite forgiven him for deciding to run for president rather than working tirelessly to sell my book to the world.

Trump likes to be in a position where he's doing something for someone -- showing them hospitality, gushing over how great things are going to be. He likes being the patron, and Abe is willing to play the client.

Ironically, this is what a lot of conservatives were worried liberals would figure out about Trump. They would give him awards, invite him to give long speeches in front of big important people, and talk about this "really great, really YUGE legislation that just needs someone to push for it..."

Not likely now, but a big concern last spring.

100%. +eleventy! This.

Happily they'd all flay and disembowel themselves before condescending to be nice to him and treat him decently. What, they think he's scum? What do they think they are? Besides, they like scum, look at the steady diet of tongue baths enjoyed by say a Castro or Xi.

But yes, if they played up to him and asked for things, they'd get a third to a half of what they want. Apparently they can't bring themselves to do it. Yay.

Yes. A combination of patron and motivational speaker.

Phrased differently, that sounds like the epitome of a good Christian person, a giver, a servant-leader. Maybe the Evangelists heard that instead of "I'm going to put the f****** back in cages" spiel that the left likes to imagine in the Right's heads.

Seeing Red म्हणाले...

He's jaw-jawing and complimentary.

What's wrong with that?

Oh. He's more effusive.

That may be what people aren't used to.

The Left throws hissys. Theyre angry. They're not used to someone being openly friendly.

What's wrong with being friendly and telling people we are going to do great things together?

What's wrong with setting a goal?
