At the Convex Café...
... you can talk about whatever you like.
The photograph is from 2007, explained here.
And remember to consider using The Althouse Amazon Portal when you've got shopping to do.

Wow, that's a cool picture.

At first glance I was thinking - Album cover, year, album cover, year.... 1967! Now what band? Hmmmmm.
Just finished watching the press conference between Trump and the British PM. This may sound odd, but I find something strangely erotic about Theresa May. I must have some strange fetish for grey haired British biddies.
@ J. Farmer: I find something strangely erotic about Theresa May
Careful there, you might inspire Laslo to do a "mature MILF in black yoga pants" follow up comment.
Theresa May dresses very well. The British papers are full of her fashion choices.
Interesting to read the commenter's names. Some of the names are still lurking here. For instance, rhhardin. Of course, I don't think rhhardin is real. I think he's an artificially intelligent google web-bot that posts interesting comments......everywhere.
Is it there any truth to the internet rumor that some major franchise (Taco Bell, Taco John's, e.g.) is analyzing pictures from the Women's March on Washington 2017? Something about looking for evidence of trademark infringement?
It's right across the street from the Concave Cave.
There once was a man from Racine....
Theresa May dresses very well.
Agreed. Way better than those frumpy frocks Thatcher paraded around in. May also has a killer set of gams.

I oppose making people feel annoyed, frustrated, or worried, especially with trivial matters.
I'm convex.
Is that an IUD taped to the ball?

"You think man can destroy the planet? What intoxicating vanity." ~ Michael Chrichton, "Prologue to Jurassic Park."
Reagan-Thatcher => Trump-May?
I can dream, can't I? (about geopolitics, not the sexiness (or lack thereof) of Ms. May)
This writer nailed it.
I used to take pictures of the chrome-plated motorcycles at certain shows. If you stand in the right place you can take pictures in which the whole scene around you is reflected in a chrome plated part but you yourself seem not to be in the picture - though the picture focus lines show you must be in the picture's center. Bewilder your friends by asking where you are in the picture. They'll be amazed when you reveal this one strange trick.
(It works when you have a chrome strut or similar part with a raised ridge running down its center. You become a thin dark line on the ridge.)

We're all Manicheans now.
May seems to be a very nice person. She is married to a banker, but childless, and an Episcopalian Priest's Daughter, and her hobby is hiking in the Swiss Alps.
Watch her hikers stride. And watch her good manners. They got Trump's attention.
NASA study confirms that cosmic rays are twice as much at higher than 30,000 feet for Air crews and frequent fliers. Many I know thought this true from brain cancer incidence.
Looks like Tin Foil Hats are going to be a good thing now.
We went to the movies yesterday and saw La La Land. I thought that it lived up to the hype; we enjoyed it. I might have preferred a happier ending, but all in all, it was very well done.
My feelings about Hollywood movie musicals are the same as those Althouse has for moon landings. They're arrogrant and show-offy, soulless and disgusting. We should take the money spent on making and promoting them and spend it on helping people on earth.
So, Roughcoat, does that mean that you haven't seen it, or that you don't want to see it, or that you saw it and didn't like it? I thought that it was better than a lot of the entertainment coming from Hollywood, and perhaps best of all, it didn't have any kind of political message baked into it.
Trump has no class, no brains, and discredited bad ideas. The Mexican president had the good sense to cancel a pointless meeting with our racist president who humiliated him, and all Mexicans. The new British prime minister could not make Trump seem more statesman-like, although she made her best effort. She's no Margaret Thatcher and he's no Reagan, not that they were great politicians by any means. He's not only a fish out of water, he's a minnow in a toilet bowl. The so-called March for Life was a dud. Next, Trump-Pence will mandate chastity belts, instead of birth control. Trump keeps repeating that he, like the Marquis de Sade, is a believer in torture. He responded to David Muir's question about "the incredible destructive power" of the nuclear weapons that his is now in charge of. This all seems like a bad dream.
Like the previous commenters on this photo my mind immediately went to Van Eyck's Arnolfini Portrait. As a student it blew my mind that in an era when people were still fighting pointy stick wars artisans discovered how to make mirrors then exploit their images in painting. Foreshortening was still in the far out future.
In the UK, the Guardian is appalled that Theresa May, whom they despise, was shown holding hands with Trump, who they despise even more. It was suggested that she count her fingers afterward. The Telegraph, a Tory paper, was more sanguine. BTW the Telly, which is always correct in forms of address, calls her Mrs. May, not Ms May.
If we are to have a female POTUS, let her be like Theresa May.

In the space normally occupied by the NFL this weekend I plan to rewatch The Right Stuff, then binge watch The Crown on Netflix. I've become a bit of a Jared Harris fan.

Wankers.
I had girlfriend way back when who was attending law school, and driving hard to become a Public Defender (which she became). She hated prosecutors, railed against the abusive powers of the state, railed against injustice to minority defendants, adamantly believed that criminal defendants were innocent victims of a corrupt system, and was adamantly opposed to the death penalty.
I once asked her if she would defend an accused rapist. Her response? "No, they oughta be shot."
The problem with vigilant leftwingers in a nutshell. No standards and no self-awareness of the absence of standards.
She was hot, but we didn't last long.
In 1969, Norman Schwarzkopf, was sent back to Vietnam. He took over a failed 198th Infantry Brigade. These kids were all losers, drug addicts, and shirkers.
It took awhile to get them back into "sorta" shape. One of his rules was that every swinging dick will wear a flak jacket and a helmet. It seems the soldiers didn't like them in the heat. Even fear of death wouldn't get them to wear the damned things.
On a hill, nearing sundown, a unit in his outfit was getting ready for the night. They picked out several approach zones the enemy might use for attack. They then called in for artillery to hit these zones, to make sure the artillery boys had the right coordinates.
To do this, the artillery on a far off hill, will send a spotting round. This round landed spot on. Then they would send a live round. They lower the gun by two clicks and send it on its way. Well, wouldn't you know, by dropping the gun, the round hit the branches of a tall tree and exploded. Raining down shrapnel on the soldiers.
All of the soldiers who had their flak jackets on were safe. One soldier who was lounging in the sun with no shirt or jacket on, and laying his head on his helmet for comfort was killed instantly, when a sliver of steel, about an inch long, went straight through his chest and ripped his heart to shreds.
When they sent his body home, his parents were scared to open the casket, because it said he was hit by artillery. The casket was opened, and the kid looked like he was ready for church. His mother screamed and fainted. She didn't expect to see him in uniform.
Schwarzkopf, immediately got in his helicopter and flew to the artillery base. There was beer cans all around the guns, and the men looked like they should be on skid row and not in a battle zone. Regardless, he looked at the coordinates called in, and then he looked at the gun. Everything was correct. Then he flew to the incident which was getting dark but could see how the trees weren't factored in by the spotter.
He noticed several men standing around bare chested. He mentioned to them that their friend would be alive if he had a flak jacket on. They told him it didn't matter. They were all going to die anyway, chasing monkeys through the jungle for no fucking reason.
Many years later he was in charge of the Kuwait war. His first order to the troops was that there was to be no alcohol. Not that there wasn't, but that there wasn't any where it was needed.
He got a jillion medals, and after he left, the soldiers he led to "victory" were stuck in the desert for a hundred years.

Hi coupe! Kill anybody lately?
It's OK, I'll ignore it if you're making an effort to improve.
Can't figure out if you approve of Schwarzkopf or not. But cool story bro!
I'd like to talk about the Republican's plan to replace Obamacare, but apparently there isn't one.
"YouTube disabled Breitbart News Senior Editor MILO’s livestreaming ability on Friday, just hours before his speech on immigration at the University of New Mexico. 'Your video MILO At UC – Colorado Springs: Democrats Are The Party Of The Cuckold was flagged for review. Upon review, we’ve determined that it violates our guidelines,' YouTube declared in a notice to MILO. 'We’ve removed it from YouTube and assigned a Community Guidelines strike, or temporary penalty, to your account.'"
I'd like to talk about the Republican's plan to replace Obamacare, but apparently there isn't one.
If you like your snark, you can keep your snark
Universe:
1. GOP has no plan to replace Obamacare
2. GOP has Plan to replace Obamacare
If 1, "hah, GOP doesn't even have a plan!"
If 2, "The GOP plan will kill women, seniors and children!"
We know the drill, we know the playbook, thanks.
I heard there was a big march in DC today. Haven't heard anything on the news, though. Anyone know what is going on?
Are these the same critics who seven days into Obama's Administration, when the head of HHS hadn't even been confirmed or sworn in, were up in arms because the Democrats "had no plan" for universal healthcare?
Thought so.
I love how Theresa May looked dierectly at Trump and said Trump told her he supports NATO 100%.
I love how Theresa May said she opposed lifting sanctions on Russia.
"Trump has no class, no brains, and discredited bad ideas. "
You could try a new idea or two but that might ruin your concentration on hate.
harryo, the guy who was the best unit commander in Vietnam was probably Hackworth. He sent letters around to all the guys who had been in his battalion before he write his book about the "Hardcore Battalion," which was made up of losers when he took over.
He called the book, Steel My Soldiers Hearts.
""Mr. President, you've said before that torture works, you've praised Russia, you've said you want to ban some Muslims from coming to America, you've suggested there should be punishment for abortion," she rattled off.
"For many people in Britain those sound like alarming beliefs. What do you say to our viewers at home who are worried about some of your views and worried about you becoming the leader of the free world?" she asked Trump.
Trump turned to May, smirking.
"This was your choice of a question?" he asked the PM. "There goes that relationship!" he joked."
What an unpresidential doofus.
I love how Theresa May ignored Trump when a reporter posed a quaestipn to both of them about Mexico and he answered for her. She gave her answer directly after he said that.
""I think the prime minister, first of all, has other things that she's much more worried about than Mexico and the United States' relationship," Trump said.""
That was a conscending rude thing to do to May.
What an unpresidential doofus.
That's Mr. unpresidential doofus, to you.
A teacher who really needs to open her heart to patriotism.
Trump made himself look like an idiot when he tried to explain what type of person Theresa May is, then he goes on to "teach" a lesson on Brexit. That was akward and weird. May was extremely polite not to roll her eyes.
What an unpresidential doofus.
Speaking of unpresidential, what's Hillary up to these days ?
Tim @5:23 Seems like it went very well.
This speech by Rep. Love is incredible:
http://freebeacon.com/issues/mia-love-heartfelt-speech-march-for-life/
Since my recent essay on congress failed to garner a response in the previous cafe, I've done some necessary editing. To remind you, I was comparing President Trump doing, while congress continues to talk, and...
Talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, cough, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, sip, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, burp, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, belch, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, pause, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, reflect, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, frown, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, wave fist, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, pound lectern, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk.
If you'd like to hear the entire lecture, tune into C-Span.
Tim, I saw on Twitter that people were seeing actual crews from ABC and CNN-- since I don't do TV I don't know myself. The New York Times has contented itself with briefly quoting Mr Pence and Mrs Conway and then noting that 'thousands attended the march'. WaPo did, however, use the adjective 'massive' to describe the crowds. A massive crowd of thousands, sure.

LOL A rude question to ask May. She was probably thankful that Trump cut it off.
The march news is everywhere. Just look for it, you know? It's there. I'm wondering about the crowd size.
Not sorry to have missed Maxine W.'s commenting; she seems to have been quite tiresome.

If the Abortion Uber Alles March had been anywhere near the size of the Women's March's I'm guessing Drudge, Breitbart and RedState would have that information plastered all over their front page. Maybe you check for us?

The BBC feels about Theresa May the way MSNBC feels about Trump.

ARM: The March for Life has taken place for the past 44 years and always draws tens of thousands. I'd say that's hell of a lot more impression then a pack of shrews and cucks who get together for a day to have a mass hissy fit.
Of course, nobody rambled on about their periods onstage or set anybody's hair on fire or spit so you might not have recognized it as real demonstration.
The March for Life also did not feature lovely characters like this one:
"Convicted felon Donna Hylton, who once was a member of a group that kidnapped, raped and tortured an elderly man to the point of death, was a featured speaker at Saturday’s pro-abortion and anti-Trump Women’s March on Washington.
Yup, seriously.
As reported by The Daily Caller’s Peter Hasson on Thursday night: “Hylton, along with three men and three other women, kidnapped 62-year-old real-estate broker Thomas Vigliarolo and held him for ransom, before eventually killing him. As noted in a 1995 Psychology Today article, when asked about forcibly sodomizing the victim with a three foot steel pole, one of Hylton’s accomplices replied: ‘He was a homo anyway.'”
“I couldn’t believe this girl who was so intelligent and nice-looking could be so unemotional about what she was telling me she and her friends had done. They’d squeezed the victim’s testicles with a pair of pliers, beat him, burned him,” said New York City Detective William Spurling, speaking of Hylton.
The felon/feminist hero apparently attempted to collect ransom money for the man after he had passed.
"What an unpresidential doofus.
Speaking of unpresidential, what's Hillary up to these days ?"
It's been a couple of months but I still feel absolute delight that Hillary Clinton will never be President. The thing that I find most hilarious about The Meltdown is the fact that these people voted for Hillary freakin' Clinton. I mean, c'mon, if you were that willfully clueless in November why would anyone take you seriously now?
" They’d squeezed the victim’s testicles with a pair of pliers, beat him, burned him,” said New York City Detective William Spurling, speaking of Hylton."
Made him pay for that white male privilege, didn't they, ARM?
" Looks like Obamacare isn't going anywhere."
Pretty much true from it's inception.
"It's been a couple of months but I still feel absolute delight that Hillary Clinton will never be President."
It's been like Christmas every day since Nov. 9.
Trump is a monster because he talked about pussy years ago, Paula Dean lost her job because she used the n word 30 years ago, but you can kidnap, torture and rape a man until he dies and as long as you have a vag and blabber about a women's right to abortion, the left will forgive you.
In fact, Rosario Dawson will play in you in a movie - an inspiring one about how you stood up to The Man in prison!
Gee, I wonder if they'll show the scene where she's shoving a steel pole up that man's ass? Or squeezing his balls with pliers?
A lot of women who attended that March would consider that great entertainment.
"The victim was 62-year-old Thomas Vigliarole, a balding real-estate broker cum con man whose partner in crime, Louis Miranda, thought Vigliarole had swindled him out of $139,000 on a mutual con. The two men had sold shares in a New York City condo and meant to pocket the money for themselves, but Miranda hadn't gotten his share."
Louis Miranda was the mastermind of the murder and together with another man the actual murderer. It was a revenge killing after a falling out between two thieves. Miranda's accomplice had been implicated in a similar kidnapping and torture in 1981.
Donna Hylton was neither the instigator nor the actual murderer. She was a teenager caught up in the plans of older male criminals. No excuse but she did her time, 27 years, as an accessory to murder.
I do not think she should have been on that stage. It was a poor decision, but not quite as blatant as you portray.
I saw something interesting on the Fox News Channel tonight. During the Tucker Carlson program, Trace Gallagher did one of his news breaks, and reported that the Trump Administration announced heightened immigration restrictions from "mostly Muslim countries.
That's fascinating to me, because it is clearly (a) unfair to Trump and (b) also intended to help promote Trump, to Fox's pro-Trump audience.
In truth, the administration didn't single out countries because they were "mostly Muslim" countries, and it didn't engage in any religious test. Rightly so, because such a test would probably not survive a challenge in a U.S. court or perhaps even an international court. The countries actually impacted are Iran, Iraq, Syria, Sudan, Libya, Yemen and Somalia, according to officials. Those are countries in which it could be said that we have legitimate security concerns related to vetting immigrants.
Ordinarily, I would think that such an erroneous report would be grounds to complain about a mainstream media outlet's anti-Trump bias. But we know better. I happen to like Trace Gallagher most of the time, and I think he's a good, careful, tough reporter and good on his feet. I mostly like his work. He's better than a mistake of that kind. His phrasing had to be intended.
So I don't think it was an error at all. I think that FNC was trying to sell this story as something along the lines of 'another Trump promise, kept.' That is to say, Trump's old discredited campaign-introduction line, "...a ban, on MUSLIMS entering the United States..." A bit of unfairness, that was actually slanted to help Trump among the Trumpkins.
Looks like Obamacare isn't going anywhere.
That was the point of my "talk, talk, talk," essay.
Either Trump wasn't serious about repealing, or he's getting screwed by congress.
Either way, the American people are still fucked.
John Hurt - RIP
Boy the stars of my youth are dropping like flies.
I saw Hurt in A Man For All Seasons, Sinful Davey and the penguin movie but was not aware of his genius until I saw I, Claudius. His Caligula was as hilarious and ridiculous as it was terrifying. I can't imagine any other actor pulling that off.
The March for Life is said to have 50,000 marchers. At its maximum it fills the street on one side of the Mall from the Washington Monument all the way up past one side of the Capitol. The Women's March was twice the size of the March for Life in that it filled the street on two sides of the Mall though it did not go up past the Capitol. It had 440,000 marchers or so we are told.
Women's March size; look at the second picture with yellow and orange overlay to see that the Women's March is twice the size of the Prolife march (at most three times) but is being said to have almost nine times as many people

Prolife March
Well, then ARM, there's also this darling:
The Muslim extremist and supporter of Sharia, Linda Sarsour was co-leader of the March. In a tweet she said Brigitte Gabrielle=Ayaan Hirsi Ali. I wish I could take their vaginas away. They don't deserve to be called women."
Ali, of course, is a critic of Islam.
Lovely company those stupid pussy cap bimbos keep.
In case you missed the instapundit posting at 12:45 AM, 1/28/17:
From The Federalist: "Donald Trump Is The First President To Turn Postmodernism Against Itself"
So I’m a scoundrel because I don’t pay income taxes? Maybe so, but it also makes me smart, just like all the other billionaires who are backing your campaign. So I’m a sexist because you found a video of me bragging about how my superstar status enables me to grab women by the p—y? Maybe it does, but allow me to publicly introduce four of the women who have accused your husband of everything from indecent exposure to rape. So I’m a greedy businessman who stiffs my contractors? Fine. You’re a corrupt politician who sells out our national interest to line your own pockets.
Maybe everything they say about me is true, but at least I’m authentic, at least I’m real: you on the other hand, are a bloody, disgusting hypocrite.
