"Ivanka and Jared at JFK T5, flying commercial. My husband chasing them down to harass them. #banalityofevil."

One tweet exemplifies the idiotic short-sightedness of freewheeling Trump-hating.

People with only Trump-hating friends are creating viral stories that will obviously work against their anti-Trump agenda.

It's especially bad when privileged people flaunt hostility aimed at the women — Ivanka and Melania.

In addition to that harassing of Ivanka on the plane yesterday, there are the artists who — after selling artwork to Ivanka — are demanding that she remove it from her walls:
“She frequents the art world, what’s sometimes called ‘the New York liberal bubble,’” curator Alison Gingeras, a leader of the movement, explained to The New Yorker. “So we already know we can speak with her, and we want to appeal to her personal stakes.”

Thus far, however, Ivanka has not responded to the “Dear Ivanka” protestors, nor to the many fears and anxieties they’ve disclosed. And until she does, the art world must continue to take a stand.

There has long been an economic divide between the people who make art and the people who buy it, but now more than ever artists working to resist the normalization of hate and protect the rights of marginalized communities are realizing the art marketplace is no longer an apolitical business.
And I just stumbled into this story about Olivia Wilde* Instagramming about her haircut: "Feelin myself apparently. Thanks to the master @harryjoshhair for the chop. #nomoremelaniahair.”

* I know: Who's Olivia Wilde? I had to look it up. Got to the Wikipedia page. Was instantly distracted by the photograph:

I'll concede that she really did have a looks-too-much-like-Melania problem. Maybe before it was the sense that Melania looked like her, and the tables got horrifyingly reversed.

These two Jet Blue jerks should have been banned for life from the airline, like the Trumper did last month. Instead, they probably got their fare refunded and a fistful of drink coupons too. Gay privilege.

As for the "artists," Ivanka should offer to sell the schlock back to them for 1000x what she paid.

This idiot woman fell for the "talking Arabic on a plane" You Tube jerk. Immediately tweeted "I'm not going to fly Delta anymore" and you could hear the whiny voice coming straight thru the tweet.
The "husband" who tweeted is a professor at Hunter College. He has since removed his Twitter account. One dad, who was sitting in front of Ivanka, said on his Facebook page the one guy was "shaking" as he said ivanka should not be allowed to fly commercial.

So thanks to these idiots, acting on their Trump derangement syndrome, made others miss their connecting flights. Merry Christmas, you assholes!

I hope you are right, Althouse; that these sorts of personal attacks in public places on members of the Trump family or members of the Trump Administration (or, let's face it, ANY Republican in 2017 and beyond, once they start passing legislation that will get a presidential signature for a change) will shame the Left and cause a broad popular backlash.

I kind of doubt it though. And the biggest problem is that Trump himself has been so personally offensive.

It's interesting the media seems to be protecting the husband who created the incident by no longer identifying his place of employment. The initial report included it, but I've read several since omitting it. They seem to have concluded it's inappropriate for people to be tied to their workplaces when it might create problems for the employer thus potentially impacting their employment (which explains why they have no problem identifying Hunter College - they know no academic will pay a price for attacking Trump).

It's revealing the media has modified their position exactly when it protects a left wing member of a favored identity group.

You know, Althouse, I was focused on the (inexcusable) offense directed at Ivanka. I overlooked this part of your linked article:

Reuters was not able to identify the passenger who was removed. Matthew Lasner, a Twitter user cited by TMZ, said his husband was going to confront Ivanka Trump and her husband, Jared Kushner, at the airport.
“Ivanka and Jared at JFK T5, flying commercial,” Matthew Lasner (@mattlasner) wrote in a tweet, which has since been deleted. “My husband chasing them down to harass them. #banalityofevil.”

Matthew's husband...?

Fabulous! So much for any wider understanding that Trump is actually "pro-gay and being cagey about it."

Rick म्हणाले...

And how simple it would be, to defend their family members from personal attacks.

Since personal attacks left both these men with poor public reputations it's not clear what "easy" means. Sure it's easy to mouth the words but it obviously wasn't easy to succeed.

Dr Weevil म्हणाले...

I've compared the Trump family, Chuck. The group this asshole was harassing included several who "weren't neck-deep in their father's business and presidential meetings", namely Trump's grandchildren, aged 5, 3, and almost 9 months (thank you, Wikipedia), plus some of his nephews or cousins (not clear which, but also apparently children).
And it's not so much that the press "would have gone apeshit if anyone had done anything like any of this to an Obama family member" but that they did go apeshit over someone who did far less. Didn't a Republican recently lose her job for suggesting on Facebook that the Obama daughters should try not to scowl so much when appearing at public events? Will this guy lose his jobs for doing far worse? Don't hold your breath.
Indeed, some of us have noticed "how easy it has been" for the American press to wallow in coverage of a Bush daughter's underage beer drinking while basically ignoring what certainly looked like Malia Obama smoking dope at Lollapalooza.
Oh well, just another example of Chuck's more-in-sorrow-than-in-anger criticism of his supposed party's candidate. I wonder what he thinks of Obama's habit of accidentally-on-purpse giving the finger to people he's criticizing in speeches. Seems a bit nastier in some ways than Trumpish direct criticism.

Why would the fact his kids are involved in the business make them any more culpable for their father's personal opinions and statements? Chelsea Clinton is more involved in the bad things her mother has done than the Trump kids are in their father's tweets, and you don't see her getting harassed in public -- and I doubt very much that is because it happened and was not reported.

Harassing Trump's family, simply put, is no different from harassing Obama's or Bush's daughters. It has nothing to do with whether Trump says hurtful things or whatever other reasons that lefties are suffering from TDS. You should not be leveraging, as you are trying to do, the behavior of these shitty people as another way to criticize what you don't like about Trump, as though what they're doing may be wrong but is understandable. This has nothing whatever to do with Trump's attitude towards gays, everything to do with some gays' irrational hatred of Trump - or rather of Republicans, since gays don't seem to have had any problem with Trump until he entered the Republican primaries, and he has said and done nothing anti-gay since.

He's not even cagey about it! It's not like Trump is an outspoken LGBT advocate, but he's been unambiguous.

Counterpoint: Romney lost. He lost pretty big(ly). Personal attacks that hurt his overall likability were one part of that loss. Harry Reid's lies about Romney not paying taxes hurt Romney. Bush won, but his popularity nosedived (nosedove?) in part because of massive Media coverage of Sheehan and similar activists (who had, remember "absolute moral authority").

Chuck said...Fabulous! So much for any wider understanding that Trump is actually "pro-gay and being cagey about it."

What? What the hell are you saying here, Chuck? One gay guy/family reacts in a way you describe as "inexcusable" but once you realize they're gay suddenly their actions signal some failure on Trump's part to spread a "wider understanding" that he's pro-gay?
Like...you've already concluded this person's actions (against Ivanka on the plane/at the airport) were bad and wrong. You're now attempting to turn that into some sort of insult against Trump...because if Trump had done a better job of appealing to this guy's community the guy wouldn't have taken these wrong, bad actions?
I hope you hear how dumb that sounds, Chuck. You're not that dumb. Is it possible that you often let your desire to insult Trump lead you to say things that make you sound dumber than you are?

What part of my agreeing with Althouse didn't you get? I agree that no one "should" do this to Ivanka. I said that. Why didn't you get it? I went further, in the realm of our national culture wars, to suggest that Republicans in the public eye get treated differently. I beat you to that one. And in absolutely no way, shape or form did I or would I tolerate, approve or condone any harassment in front of small children. It ought to provoke a backlash, precisely as Althouse suggested.

There is literally nothing they can do to stop the immature and braindead hatred they are going to experience over the next 4 or 8 years.

Anyone who defends behavior like this is just as miserable as those pricks. Instead, we have the First Sale doctrine that essentially says that once you sell a work (or copy thereof), you give up your legal right to control it. I expect that anyone conducting such a campaign has a slightly better chance (but only slightly better) at proving the truth of the allegation, than Donald Trump had in proving that Barack Obama was not a U.S.-born citizen. Or that vaccines cause autism. Or that everyone in the highest levels of the Bush Administration knew that there were no stockpiles of chemical weapons an fissile material in Iraq. Or that "thousands" of Muslims in New Jersey cheered on television as the World Trade Center collapsed. Or that General Pershing dipped bullets in pigs' blood and used them to execute Muslim captives.

There are all kinds of crazy theories in this world of ours.

Given recent experience, I recognize the behaviour of this couple. As I've mentioned a number of times, my wife and I have hosted foreign exchange students over the years. Both boys did their best to trash our reputations in school and the community, despite our organization telling them to knock it off. They were also both gay. Our gay friends have since told us that the "angry gay" is indeed a type. Their intent is to inflict as much reputational pain as they can, and there is no molifying them. It is really quite frightening. I wonder to what extent those suing, harrassing bakers photographers, caterers, and such, are the same type.

When that's combined with your professions of loyalty to Republicans/hostility toward the Left generally it seems to really tweak a lot of other commenters here--which again might be intentional.

Anyway we shouldn't gang up on Chuck--I'm glad he's around and I'm thankful that we have this space to all talk togehter. I said not one word about Muslims in this thread.
If asked, all that I could say about Trump and Muslims is that his words were, "Donald J. Trump is calling for a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our representatives can figure out what the hell is going on." It was a reckless statement, that Trump had to walk back, to being "a suggestion" and which has zero chance of becoming real policy. There will be no total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States.

You probably really believe that Trump called ALL MEXICANS rapists and murderers.
No, I don't believe that. Again, I never mentioned "Mexicans" in this thread. I think that Trump said, "When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people."

I really don't recall ever writing much of anything about Mexicans on this blog. What I have written about repeatedly is the folly of Trump's bogus and laughable proposal to tax imported cars and auto parts at 35%. That will never happen.

Because you believe all the stupid media exaggerations and outright lies,
No, I don't believe all of them, and it is interesting that you'd hurl that stuip claim at me in a thread where I have already criticized the unfairness of the left-leaning media.

I did no such thing; I did the opposite thing, in my writing above. I criticized the tormenters of Ivanka on the Jet Blue flight. I hoped that Althouse was right, in predicting a backlash. Exactly what else the fuck do you want from me?

This never would have happened if she had only taken the train. Who is she to think her time is worth anything?

Seriously, the thing that really surprised me was that she was flying commercial. Not even on Delta or AA which have biz class. On JetBlue which is all coach.

She has enough money and access to the Trump air fleet that she could have used one of those planes. Given all the folks she was flying with (6? total plus SS) it might have even been cheaper than the individual tickets. Probably could have found a business reason for the flight and made it a tax deduction.

I think made a statement by flying JetBlue. I think the statement was "Hey America, we are just like you." I don't know if she was doing this on purpose or not but the statement was made. I suspect not on purpose. I suspect we would never have known if it had not been for the asshole.

Does she fly JetBlue regular or was this a one time event? If there were any real reporters they would ask to see her frequent flyer mileage.

Your an equivocating liar Chuck. Althouse tried to show you the error and you doubled down with the "personally offensive" crap.

Here is a perfect illustration:

I have done precisely one thing here that should bother you. I criticized Donald Trump's personal recklessness and vulgarity. And you can't stand that part. And for that, you want to accuse me of a half dozen other absurd things.

First, I'm not bothered by you. You are obviously bothered by Trump and obsessed with expressing it in every forum no matter the subject. And that's why your writing is so dishonest and at times internally contradictory: the post is about a couple of gay assholes who plan and execute a public attack on toddlers and Ivanka and you (poor reading comprehension and all) miss the fact the attacker is a gay activist and true to your form take the opportunity to tell us how Donald is the problem. And sure we joke around, but your inability to see this is weird. No matter what the post is about you attack Trump.

Did you look up monomania yesterday? Nope you just exhibit it again today!

So I'll explain it in simple terms and then do like the other sane people and stop reading your crap:

1. Evil progressive (who just happens to be gay not that there's anything wrong with that) yells at three children under 10-years-old and their mother in a crowded commercial jet.
2. Althouse writes it up.
3. You attack Trump for his sins and insinuate he caused it.

In the real world the asshat on the jet is responsible for his own actions. Donald didn't make him do it. The asshat did it on his own. Keep defending bad behavior if you like, I won't see it. Your like Guild and R&B now. Just another name that signals it's time for me to skip down to a sane post.

I kind of doubt it though. And the biggest problem is that Trump himself has been so personally offensive.

Lots of flights at good times, TSA Precheck, live TV & high speed internet gate to gate, good seat pitch, good snacks. How is Trump being cagey about being supportive of gay rights? There is a picture of him holding a rainbow flag at a rally overwritten in magic marker "Gays for Trump" or something in that vein. Seems fairly public and "un-cagey." He and his family have lived their entire lives in NYC, home of a great many gay folks. I am one of them. There has never been any story that he has had an issue with gay folks and in fact said that the issue was decided regarding gay marriage. Just as in some other minority communities, if you do not conform to the group think, then you are suspect. With 30+ years voting under my belt as a conservative gay man, I know what it is to be harassed and ridiculed for my political beliefs from other gay people.

Just unhinged thinking from people who think that just because they are gay, or (insert cohort here) they necessarily speak for all in the group. Bullshit. Since I brought it up, I'll answer. The quote, "I see Trump as pro-gay, and being cagey about it," is a quote from one of Althouse's own comments. The occasion was Trump's picking Mike Pence as his running mate.

Here is more of the quote:

To me, the anti-gay stuff from Pence is beyond the normal traditional-morals positioning. It's aggressive and stupid. The media will kill him with it and it will merge with the way they're already trying to kill Trump.

But some of you conservatives are so bent on getting back to traditional morality and using political power to do it that you're ready to leap into the risk that is Pence. I think Trump is smarter than that. I see Trump as pro-gay and being cagey about it.

Every time I bring up this Althouse quote, I feel obliged that I did my level best to goad her into that comment. (She might not feel that way at all.) And I honestly feel that Althouse is right, in substance. I agree with her, that Trump has been pro-gay all along, and has been cagey about it.

And the reason I see all of this as relevant to the Althouse blog is that, for me, it goes a long way toward explaining Althouse's mostly-solicitous attitude toward the Trump Phenomenon. She has never confirmed that for me. I am left to my suspicion(s).

I am really concerned about violence at the Inauguration. I'm sure the USSS is on top of it but there are lot of crazy people around since deinstitutionalization took them all out of proper care.

The psychotic who shot Gabby Giffords and several others who died, had been protected by his probably crazy mother who worked for the Democrats Pima County Sheriff. The kids who shot up the school in Connecticut and the black church in Charleston were two more. The one in Connecticut was also protected by a goofy mother. She, of course, was his first victim.

The guy who tried to attack Trump in Ohio last summer was interviewed on CNN as though he was a person with a valid opinion instead of the attention whore he is.

The Muslims are bad enough without encouraging the idiots like those two on JetBlue.

GrapeApe म्हणाले...

Chuck, as someone whose third choice was Mr. Trump (behind Walker and Jindal), I have no problem with anything Pence has said. Trump runs the show. I respect whatever are his beliefs. What I do not respect are courts forcing folks into a groupthink situation. If you, for whatever reason, do not wish to involve your business in gay marriage, then you should be able to do that. The market sorts itself out.

While Mr. Pence mightn't be friendly to gay people, there is really nothing he is able to influence is there? Mr. Trump will decide what his role will be in the administration, and after the last eight year disaster, I don't think it will be about sex.

You left out the crazy guy who killed a delivery driver thinking it was Trump, and refuses to believe that it wasn't Trump.

@Chuck, are you sure you aren't trying to fight a battle you already won? It kinda makes you look demented.

Back in 2012 the Dumbocrats and press were trying to make ordinary Republicans answer for the ridiculous views of Todd Akin. Fair's fair so I think all gays need to answer for the two dingbats on JetBlue. Sauce for the goose and all that.

mockturtle म्हणाले...

GrapeApe says: With 30+ years voting under my belt as a conservative gay man, I know what it is to be harassed and ridiculed for my political beliefs from other gay people.

A gay Republican I worked with at the county convention four years ago told me the same thing: That he is more vilified by the radical gay community than by 'rednecks'. It's much the same as conservative women and conservative blacks. As far as the MSM are concerned, they either don't exist or should be stamped out. To give them a voice would be dangerous to their narrative.

Can't argue with that too much. Did you think I would?

But of course I didn't raise the Althouse quote just to re-litigate the same sex marriage wars, or bathroom bills, or anything else.

I raised it, as part and parcel of my own observations about the Althouse blog. It really wasn't any "argument" at all on my part.

GrapeApe म्हणाले...

No, Big Mike.

Not going to answer for the gay folks until the black folks answer for Sheila Jackson Lee. Not going to happen.

My experience with the redneck folks from my native Louisiana and my religious family is to leave well enough alone. While I have had a problem here and there, NYC has been far more problematic than was living in Louisiana. So much for the intolerant redneck meme. I call bullshit on that. No place more more racist than NYC. Not Louisiana not Mississippi not Alabama. Sorry to you projectors of your own racism. Truth as I experience it. Dark skin husband (Indian) living in a neighborhood where I am the only white guy about. We manage.

Took the bus into work today because my car in the shop. Not too crowded just before holiday. At one point the driver nearly hit a cyclist who got into it with him. For some reason, two old white women on the bus started taking sides and making loud comments, devolving into one old woman verbally harassing the other old woman off and on for 5 minutes til I reached my stop. Tempted to say something but figured I'd just be adding gasoline. Don't take the bus much but I imagine this kind of thing goes on all the time. No conductors so no one to remove the rowdy bus passenger. I guess I should have filmed it and put it on youtube. World full of mentally unstable people and jerks.

No, Chuck is not -- and never was -- defending the asshats who yell at women. But after having agreed with Professor Althouse's condemnation of the asshats who yell at women, and having observed that the general domestic political climate has been, well, heated by Mr. Trump's Twitter account et cetera, Chuck was accused (as usual) of having taken the side of the asshats. And of being a troll, and a sleeper agent for Hillary, a Democrat, you name it. As usual. The usual BS.

By the numbers, whichever quantitative measures of racism you prefer, Madison has every other city beat hands down.

It is tough competition with such cities as Phlly, Baltimore, Detroit, Chicago, New Orleans and others.

One key characteristic these racist cities share is solid and long term control by Democrats.

Chuck, who supported Hillary Clinton and lied about his vote, sure does take every opportunity to criticize Donald Trump. It is as if he would prefer a loser like John McCain to a winner like Trump.

Non-Chuck note:
Whenever the Democrats or Republicans run the next-in-line candidate, that candidate tends to lose. That list includes Hillary, Romney, McCain, Gore and Dole. The outsider candidates like Reagan, Clinton, Obama and Trump have performed well with voters. Most Americans understandably hate the ads holes tied to parties that wish to rule us. That bunch of Chucks are the worst.
