At the NYT:
Yes, I am attacking the press. Maybe I am doing it a favor. You can't see me right now, but I am standing in the middle of my room, my arms flung wide apart, and howling for no reason.

Say what you will about Trump, but he really pulls off that dress.
The NYT has no idea what is going one.
My daughter, a huge Taylor Swift fan, turning 16 in January, was pretty upset this election cycle by how Taylor was treated.
Apparently she refused to come out and support Hillary or oppose Trump.
It's not enough to remain silent and non political. If you don't stand up to Hitler, then you are Hitler.
Maybe that's why they have a picture of Taylor?
Somehow her refusal to say anything ties in?
I glanced at the article. I think the connection to Taylor Swift is that Taylor Swift stood up for herself when Apple adopted a policy that was not in her financial interest, and the press needs to be like Taylor Swift and stand up to Trump!
I wonder if Alvin and the Chipmunks have covered any Taylor Swift songs.
If they ever covered, "Romeo and Juliette", that probably would be awesome.
The article discusses the threat to revenue free online news sources pose to antiques like the NYT, and suggests that professional journalism stand up to cheapskates and erect paywalls to defeat the threat. It asserts that when Trump disses the press he stimulates sales, which is likely true only in the blue islands.
Just look at the way Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey is supporting a fast-tracked and bipartisan bill that would economically devastate newspapers in the state by ending the legal requirement that state and local agencies place their legal notices in print papers.
Holy shit. I knew it was bad for print media but this is now your bread and butter? Gov. Christie is doing you a merciful favor.
As an outsider to me The Left and the MSM (but I repeat myself) seems to be such a chaotic disaster at the moment, like a flaming school bus full of children careening towards a cliff at 90mph. It's a safe bet that this will get worse before it gets better.
...suggests that professional journalism stand up to cheapskates and erect paywalls to defeat the threat.
They tried this and discovered fewer people would be subject to manipulation from their political narratives.

LOL. Yeppers. I linked to the NYT and WaPo a lot early in my internet years. Then they erected paywalls on some content. Adios some content. Now I'm allowed X views per month on many sites. Since I can not discern click bait from useful (if there still be such) information, I hit my limit early most months. I know there are workarounds. But I have found even the minimal effort is not worth the results.
It was like weaning myself off of cigarettes.
A little off-topic, but Electoral voting is being live blogged at this site. Electoral College vote: Live updates on state-by-state voting
Nothing too dramatic, Trump has not lost a vote yet:
One "faithless" elector so far - Minnesota - fellow refused to vote for Clinton, was replaced by an alternate.
This is a good one from WI: Dec 19, 2016 1:47 PM EST From the AP: Protesters shouted, cried and even sang "Silent Night" as Wisconsin's 10 presidential electors cast their ballots for Donald Trump
It's written by Jim Rutenberg.
JIM RUTENBERG
You do know why that matters, don't you?
cue marvin gaye, they do seem to having an early swift temper tantrum
Turn the newspaper buildings into warming centers.
what's going on?

If you scroll down to the reporting on New York, they have an image of Bill Clinton casting his vote as an elector while sitting next to a young brunette in a blue dress. You’d think he’d have learned his lesson by now. Either that or someone has a perverse sense of humor.
Nothing too dramatic, Trump has not lost a vote yet:
He’s supposed to lose one in Texas (from the guy who lied about being on site for 9/11 IIRC). I don’t know if that guy will be replaced with an alternate who votes for Trump.

I believe she also lost one of her Maine electors who voted for Sanders.

The counter-protesters should be singing “Joy to the World” or (my favorite) “Hark the Herald Angels Sing.”
Trump has 224 (needs 270 to win) after Ohio cast their votes for him.
I confess this one has me stumped. It must be inside Manhattan humor.

I don't think that's what Hot Lips had in mind.
" . . . for no reason."
Oh, I think that there's a reason.
I am divided about Miss Swift.
Sometimes she comes across as a blandly pretty girl, and sometimes there are these flashes of spirit and whimsy.
She's not like, say, Eartha Kitt, who was 100% spirit and whimsy.
Nice picture. It deserves to be on anyones front page, whether there is related news or not.
Looks like Taylor Swift has a nice ass.
In the meantime, a large truck plowed into a crowd at a Christmas market in Berlin. There have been multiple victims.
Heaven knows what the motive of the driver could have been. He is probably one of those violent Trump supporters.
Let's bring more refugees in.
Know what I like about Taylor Swift? No one knows where she stands on anything politically (though they sure like to guess). That's because it occurs to her that she stands to gain nothing from alienating any fans over something unrelated to her career.
A Swift is a hard bird to capture. Taylor has recently asked, "What's the pool on me up to now?" Only National Enquirer knows for sure.
The counter-protesters should be singing “Joy to the World” or (my favorite) “Hark the Herald Angels Sing.”
Why not "Ding Dong the Witch is Dead"?
Why not "Ding Dong the Witch is Dead"?
Because the best way to respond to the "woe is me, we've elected Hitler" crowd is by showing that there are lots of people who are seriously excited (in a good way) about the possibilities of a Trump presidency. Hence, you respond to somber music with joyful songs.
you respond to somber music with joyful songs.
Hence my suggestion.
Shake it off, NYT, shake it off!
I overuse exclamation points. When you used that one, it showed me how great they can be if you keep them in reserve.
I think that Britney Spears is actually a Republican, but keeps it on the very down low, because she's not suicidal. And although she's flashy in terms of showing off how little she can wear, her opinions on most subjects are I think carefully guarded, because she's smart enough to not alienate people from buying her albums.
Not like, say, Katy Perry who thinks that her boobs will overcome being a spokesperson for Hillary.

The establishment press really is invincibly blind when it comes to "attacks" (versus retorts) and "fake news". Really, the "Worst Restaurant in America" review is about food has nothing to do with politics?
The answer to all the troubling new questions about the future of the news business — how to make money, stop the spread of fake news and reassert a uniform view of reality — appeared last week in a plate of “flaccid, gray Szechuan dumplings.”
That was how the Vanity Fair writer Tina Nguyen described her appetizer at the Trump Grill in a review that said the joint — the flagship eatery of White House North (Trump Tower) — could be “The Worst Restaurant in America.”

That right there is the money quote. Not truth. Not facts. A uniform view of reality. That sums up progressives right there. They are the "community based reality". Facts have nothing to do with it.
Yes indeed- nothing like enforcing a uniform view of reality.

"Think as I think," said a SJW,
"Or you are abominably wicked;
You are a toad."
And after I had thought of it,
I said, "Ribbit, motherfucker."

Headline/Photo mismatches are one of the categories in the CJR's Lower Case feature. My all-time favorite was after Andrew (which had devastated southern Dade, but not Miami). There was a picture of a South Beach sidewalk café with a starched Cuban waiter with tray by an umbrella-ed table, presumably that went with a "Miami is open for tourism" article, but was right next to a headline "Dade County opens emergency homeless shelter".
