"As we reckon with the reality that Donald Trump will be the next president of the United States, the nation’s teens have mobilized as well — by roasting Trump’s offspring in public."
"Fuck your father" is despicable harassment, not roasting.
A roast is an event in which a specific individual, a guest of honor, is subjected to good-natured jokes at their expense intended to amuse the event's wider audience.... The implication is that the roastee is able to take the jokes in good humor and not as serious criticism or insult, and it is seen by some as a great honor to be roasted. The individual is surrounded by friends, fans, and well-wishers....A group of strangers yelling "Fuck your father!" is not good-natured or any kind of honor. There's nothing the slightest bit friendly about it. We're told there were "about eight" of these teenagers, accosting Eric (and his wife) as they crossed a street in NYC. This is ugly and should be condemned, but New York Magazine asks us to take a break from our own suffering (over the outcome of the election) and appreciate it. Vile.

And they keep saying Trump and his supporters are hateful.
This from the very press organs that hold Trump 100% responsible if someone shouts a racial slur at anyone for any reason 24/7 to infinity. Its pretty hard to take them seriously isn't it?
I for one welcome this coverage of these people exercising their First Amendment rights to make utter hateful fools of themselves, and cost the Democrats whatever goodwill they might still have.
My sympathies to the people being abused so pointlessly. This is a character test. You should try to bear up and not respond. Best if you can go home and break something privately. Console yourselves with the thought that all this crap is blowing back on them.
So how many people are looking at how the left is handling their loss and thinking, "By golly, we made the wrong decision with that whole Trump thing. These people clearly should have been put in charge!"

Teens, women, "people of color", illegals, in fact anyone attacking the "not left" is "simply exercising their free-speech rights" regardless of how crass or violent they get. Someone on the right wears a "make America great again" hat and they are "just like" Hitler and no retribution is over the line.
Welcome to The New America, brought to you by Hollywood, the MSM, and your educational establishment.
Vile
But that's what our left wing stands for.
Vile indeed. America 2016. How far we have fallen. Will it ever be possible to reduce the abusive polarization and restore the culture?
I fear not. There is a malignancy growing in this formerly great country.
Just like each economic collapse reveals frauds that have gone long hidden, each rightward shift in the political plates reveals the utter rot within a lot of progressive souls.
This is how Trump voters are created.
Will it ever be possible to reduce the abusive polarization and restore the culture?
Yes, it is possible. All it requires is for some brave progressive to come up with a final solution to the right winger problem.
When Democrats say:
Stronger Together, and
Love Trumps Hate
this is what they mean.
"This is ugly and should be condemned . . . Vile." It's what they do. It's who they are.
How would Gabriella Paiella even find out about this? And how is it newsworthy. Or even sponge-worthy, for that matter?
A gaggle?
I thought that was geese.
Maybe we could start the meme: A jerk-off of insulters.
i think you are forgetting that these are 8 TEENAGERS... hardly representative of democrats as a whole... on the other hand the bad actors in trump rallies were adults... both should be condemned and arrested if the law allows... teenagers acting badly hardly a story to get worked up about...
i thought you were going with 'what a surprise the msm would report it and not bury' angle...

Didn't we just learn that the Trump family can't even go to dinner without the paparazzi -- I mean very serious White House Correspondents -- tagging along?
@GWash- I agree that teenagers acting badly isn't unusual nor necessarily representative of the elders that they associate with.
A journalist giving them fawning praise for their behavior though is a different matter.

Have you been living in a cave for the past 9 months? BLM, SJW, the DNC email leaks, the Hillary email leaks. The paid prevaricators that attended Trump events to cause trouble. The UAW. "We needs some muscle over here...".
This is what the left is and what the left does. Own it.
Ah, Gwash. Tell me, you are all in on these protests, right?
So when the protestors killed someone yesterday, you are a-ok with it? Apparently there's a little 4-year old girl, whose daddy was being taken to the hospital via ambulance.... that the protestors wouldn't let through because they were blocking the street. The ambulance had to take a 45 minute detour.
And because of that, this little girl is without a father. And now the protestors are coming after the medical staffers in the ambulance who tried and tried to save this father's life but failed.
I am happy that those are the people you are supporting, Gwash. I for one condemn them, but you go ahead and support them and their methods of protesting. Because they reveal just how vile the left is.

The point isn't the teens. It's the journalist -- and layers of fact-checkers and editors -- and New York Magazine celebrating this.
New York Magazine and its readers make a point of taking pleasure in a group of teenagers shouting "Fuck your father!” at Donald Trump.
I believe your post's title is incorrect. It was shouted at Eric Trump.
on the other hand the bad actors in trump rallies were adults
Which we have subsequently learned were cast by Creamer and paid for out of Democratic coffers
Love trumps hate. Feel the love!

There's so much wrong with this. The event itself didn't generate the story, people praising them did. Since the bad actors include these adults why can't GWAsh - who notes Trump supporting adults need to be condemned and arrested - manage to condemn them? Why it's almost as if his outrage is determined by his politics.
Keep in mind the adult bad actors at Trump events were likely paid by Clinton's campaign, and that most of the violence at Trump events was by Clinton supporters. No concern for GWAsh though.
"on the other hand the bad actors in trump rallies were adults..."
True - the anti-Trump mob beating up dozens of people at the San Jose Trump rally were adults.
Under the eye of the SJ police.
This, plus numerous other such cases in Chicago, Arizona and randomly elsewhere, including numerous cases of anti-Trump mob violence post election massively outnumber the cases of Trump supporters doing anything.
This disparity in how the media treats complaints and emphasis is evil. The mass media is propagating evil madness for political reasons. And then is very quietly reporting the truth as aftermath to cover themselves in righteousness. Shouting lies and whispering truth is telling lies. They are scum.
http://www.mercurynews.com/2016/07/15/san-jose-trump-rally-task-force-nets-numerous-arrests-marks-foray-into-new-age-investigations/
Police said the 22 suspects identified by police committed some kind of crime — mostly assault — against 24 victims. Of the 22 suspects, 20 have been contacted or arrested, and two are still being sought. Police identified 46 total assaults — meaning that multiple suspects are thought to have committed several attacks.
Chief Eddie Garcia formed a task force specifically to sort out the chaos that ensued between supporters and those protesting the Republican presidential candidate, including multiple bouts of violence that drew worldwide infamy to San Jose and torrents of criticism that neither the city nor police did enough to protect the victims.
Again, the very best strategy remains encouraging the media to throw Donald Trump and everyone associated with him into the briar patch.
"Trump may have won the election, New Yorker, but, gosh, the right has no force as astute and powerful as you. Could we beg you to pull your punches, just a little? For the children."
Dreams I headed over to the Summers link to give it a quick read, and ran across this gem:
"He [Summers] said the estate tax repeal will actually encourage saving and discourage spending."
Oh noes!!!!! We can't have folks saving!
Imagine if this was yelled at Sasha and Malia???
Soon, "Your Mom" jokes come to political commentary.
Truly, I'm done with this crap. It's time to start rounding up these heathens and forcibly reeducating them. Forget the verdict of history-- there won't be any history if these assholes don't get what's coming to them.

I was quite disappointed he wasn't asked about his involvement with Premise Data Corp.
It's telling that Ann highlights this story (whether it is true or not) and does not do a post on the fact that Trump is still considering a Muslim registry.
So many people are signing up so early to work on the Trump reelection campaign. They don't realize they've signed up and they don't realize they're not getting paid.
It must have been a group on CNN employees on break. Outside the Studio captivity they are allowed to express themselves. And their Stockholm Syndrome took over.
File this in the imaginary hate crimes database. You'd like to think this "gaggle of teens" was girls age 13 or 14. That's what the words "gaggle" and "teens" calls on you to imagine.
Notice that on pagesix.com "Eric briefly turned to face them, but then moved on swiftly." gets this addition on nymag.com "He then presumably muttered “I’m rubber and you’re glue, whatever bounces off me sticks to you” under his breath."
Teenage girls being told by Eric to f*** his father, there's an image!
It'll be OK. My son's public high school morning public address over the intercom included the note that they'll be handing out safety pins. The Trumps can always run to the nearest person with a pin on his/her shirt and shout, "Sanctuary!"
I think the author meant "roast" as it is used today by teenagers and in memes:

When the field of candidates for the Republican nomination was something like 16 or 17 people, Trump wasn't even my top 10. In fact, he might not have been in my top 15. When he won the nomination, I voted for him because he was the only one who could stop Hillary Clinton from becoming president. I voted for him with some misgivings. However, seeing how the Left has behaved in the last week, those misgivings have disappeared. While I don't know what kind of president he will be, Trump is definitely better than letting the Left maintain control of government. They're free to protest and express their opinions, but when they resort to criminal violence, they deserve to be locked up.
We lanced the boil. This is the pus that must flow out.
I don't like to paste segments of article but I thought this was excellent. Much more insightful than the NYT & the WaPo. It from an editorial in Al Jazeera.
"As social media proliferates and becomes a primary news source for a growing number of people, the way it is used is key to explaining the shock over certain voting results. On these platforms, people tend to be connected with like-minded others, and tend to read and share content with which they agree, aided by algorithms that ensure you receive the kind of content you like.
This creates bubbles from which opposing views are minimised if not absent, giving the impression that those views are less popular. As such, shock results are usually only shocking to those whose bubbles have been burst.
Blame is assigned and accusations made, because that is easier and more comforting than facing the fact that your view - the one echoed for so long in your self-made chamber - is not the prevailing one, or that there is a whole other narrative with which you are unfamiliar.

I blame Robert Dinero's harsh rhetoric in support of Clinton.
I think Charles Krauthammer said something to the effect that deep down the right thinks teh left is stupid, and the left thinks the right is evil. While certainly not universally true, I think this description has some merit. At least insofar as how a member of one group is likely to explain to themselves how the other group could possibly think a certain way.
What has happened though is that the left's continual viewpoint of themselves as the 'goodguys' and the right as the 'badguys'. Has allowed the left to do things and employ tactics that they wouldn't otherwise do in a non-political situation. Their inerrant belief that they are the 'goodguys' has allowed them to turn themselves into the 'badguys'.
Mockturtle: "I don't like to paste segments of article but I thought this was excellent. Much more insightful than the NYT & the WaPo. It from an editorial in Al Jazeera. [Big bold block quote from Al J]."
Wow. That is both self-evident and yet sharply true. The psychology of bubbles is key to understanding where we are, and where we are going.

You mean a list of *immigrants* from Muslim countries. Very different. I would assume that somewhere at the INS there is already a computer database of active visas with things like country of origin and when the visas expire and so on.
Can you explain why this would be so much worse than the current Terror Watchlist, which appears to be based on nothing but innuendo and similarity of names?
The only way to get them to condemn it is to get a bunch of teens to do it to Obamas children.
Then it won't be roasting, it'll be racism and sexism of the worst sort, generating a national conversation.
These teens are in training. Training for the day when they can do this.
Own it libs. Be proud!
I say let them all keep it up. The arrogance and hypocrisy regarding hate, racism, etc... is what really cost Hillary the election. They couldn't weaken Trump during the election with all this, why do they think the same will work now that he's elected?
Credibility needs to be and is being diminished for organizations that have abused the trust instilled in their institutions. Screw 'em. They're like the person a person who doesn't realize they've had too much to drink.

Again..sure wish this kind of thing was limited to snowFlake "kids". But election day I was with a worldly, err..mature..camera guy who said (seeing Eric Trump on a muted tv) something like "I don't normally point this out but..just look at that"
What constitutes hate speech these days?
"A lot of Mexican illegal immigrants are rapists." == hate speech!
"A lot of white American guys are rapists." == speaking truth to power!
Face it. The teens were just upset that Madonna had reneged on her promise.
These people are just afraid of change.
Liberals knew how corrupt Clinton is. They supported her anyway. They ignored blatantly criminal behavior. They sold their souls for power, knowingly, and then got nothing for it.
Selling your soul is bad enough. Giving it away for nothing but humiliation? That's where all this rage and violence is coming from.
I don't feel sorry for them. At all.
Per Owen: Wow. That is both self-evident and yet sharply true. The psychology of bubbles is key to understanding where we are, and where we are going.
Do you think the NYT would ever admit to being 'in a bubble' or in their self-made echo chamber?
Vault Dweller:
No. They've always been the bad guys. It's not like thugs and felons just started siding with the Democrats yesterday.
"And they keep saying Trump and his supporters are hateful."
You know, it's not impossible this is a "a pox on both your houses" kind of situation.
"And they keep saying Trump and his supporters are hateful."
You know, it's not impossible this is a "a pox on both your houses" kind of situation.
It seems to me we have a positive feedback loop underway.
The small minded are small in number. Stop telling them they are large. Trumpeting their actions as part of a larger movement and proclaiming they have champions only gives them voice and encouragement. They are nothing. They are meaningless. Dust in the wind. Their ideas are a dead end.
Those who can be, must be adults: report, minimize and move on.
I hope this was sufficiently cruelly neutral. It's happening on all sides.
I don't have the time to look for it now, but I recall a young girl (15?) speaking at a Tea Party rally in Madison during the Act 10 protests getting heckled with abusive language.
I tried to tell the Secret service guy that yelling "Your father is a stupid fucker and your mom is a wookie" while rushing towards Malia was just a solid roasting.
More Democratic Love.

Would you let me in, would you let me in, would you let me in
Should I cry sanctuary
Mockturtle: "...Do you think the NYT would ever admit to being 'in a bubble' or in their self-made echo chamber?"
I think Bubble Psychology is like Fight Club. The first rule is denying that you are in a bubble. The second rule is denying the first.
Short version: La la la la la la
Seriously: whatever happened to the reality principle?
And the tag line implies *he* is the childish one.
Love trumps Trump-hate.
As for media self-awareness, fish don't know they're wet.
This is Obama's and the Left's legacy. Obama began tearing this country apart from day one. "The police acted stupidly", "if I had a son", etc. This will be our future for at least the near term. Cloward-Piven, Alinsky trying to end the American experience.
"New York Magazine and its readers make a point of taking pleasure in a group of teenagers shouting "Fuck your father!” at Eric Trump."
Such charming kids. I'm sure they'll all have a bright future as guests of the New York state correctional system.

Buwaya said a few months ago [in so many words] that California is the preview of the US as a whole. Appalling idea but I can tell you that there is NO REALITY in California. Reality is prohibited by state law. Maybe Disney started this.

You never know. Kids have a funny way of growing out of things.
The longer this goes on the longer the american people should realize that the democrat party is rapidly morphing into a terrorist group.
It certainly re-enforces to me that I voted the peaceful and best for my country way.
So many of the magazines and newspapers that I read and respected as a young man have turned to shit.
Unknown, I was reading this morning that conversion to radical Islam is rampant among young people in Germany. This will probably be the next move by these disaffected, spoiled millennials. Salafism 'Cool' to Young in Germany
Homophobia, sexism and racism in Islam don't count, you know.
"So many of the magazines and newspapers that I read and respected as a young man have turned to shit."
This is true. Formerly one could respect The Economist, Time, Fortune (Seligman died, and so did the brain behind it it seems), Scientific American (and that case is a terrible decline indeed), the NYT (and its daughter the International Herald Tribune), etc.
In Cambodia kids like this carried plastic bags.
They knew how to deal with fans of freedom.
They think it is empowering, but this kind of shit is one more reason why they lost.
buwaya, you have asked why Democrats seem to hate the folk. We can't figure it out either, but we have theories of course. The term used for it by us on the right, if you are in a Googling mood is oikophobia. Why the Democrats cut out a huge part of their coalition against future demographic trends that may or may not materialize is beyond me. I think they are addicted to feeling superior.
It's authentic. It's honest. It's terrible that a law professor would be so against this. Sad. Really sad - Unknown, but not Vance

That was in my 12:56 post, enjoy!
Mockturtle: "...Reality is prohibited by state law." Is that in the criminal code or the civil code (public health section)? If you attempt to construct a reality field, will the Department of Altered States swoop down and arrest you?
Buwaya: "...Scientific American..." Oh yes. I remember reading that thing (or trying to do so) in the 70's and it was serious stuff. Now? Climate activism and SJW lectures. Science and Nature are hardly better, unless you get into safe areas like hard physics and biochem.
Harkin: "...carried plastic bags." Oh yes, again. A pale blue; quite delicate-looking; but very effective. "The Killing Fields" had some unforgettable scenes.
"i think you are forgetting that these are 8 TEENAGERS... hardly representative of democrats as a whole."
Actually, I think eight teenagers acting like a bunch of assholes is precisely representative as Democrats as a whole.
In fact, you'd be hard pressed to find a more accurate representation.
The reaction of the crazies to Trump's election is similar to the reaction of the Europeans to Brexit. The net effect of the misbehavior of both groups is to convince the Brexit voters and the Trump voters that they were absolutely correct in their choice.
Owen asked, rhetorically: Mockturtle: "...Reality is prohibited by state law." Is that in the criminal code or the civil code (public health section)? If you attempt to construct a reality field, will the Department of Altered States swoop down and arrest you?
LOL! Possibly! And I should think both criminal and civil codes. ;-) They don't want to take any chances.
Trump asked for his own Comedy Central roast, and scowled through it like a clown with constipation the whole time.
The guy's a goddam narcissist. He couldn't even take the jokes told about him when he went to the White House Correspondents' dinner - and seemed dumbfounded that they would lambaste a birther at Obama's own event.
How do you deal with a guy like that? How does anyone?
I know, I know. Not your problem. Meanwhile, let's celebrate and have an open mind about the first president to not care about how libel law actually works and gleefully views excessive litigation as a political weapon.
Trump put up with 24/7 of negative stories about him--most of them lies--for at least three or four months solid. I never witnessed a barrage like that. Thin skin? He the Rock of Gibraltar.

"appreciate" is a good word. Parse that, pretty please.
Else otherwise, suffering is sometimes just one of those mental things. Real suffering actually hurts. Sometimes really bad.
Sometimes insufferably.
I think they call "mental suffering" a "first world problem."
Boo hoo.
