I hope it's not the usual college student ennui, and an actual repudiation of the entire idea.
Consequently, the school immediately began organizing a weekly discussion forum called “Diversity and Inclusion Circles” for students to voice their concerns and address last fall’s demands.
Awww. I just can't understand why a bunch of college students don't want to show up to a meeting that involves them getting hectored & yelled at by some of the most pissed-off & deranged of their cohort.
So many things in life are a mystery.
Be careful what you wish for.

I saw this post when it had zero replies and I had wanted to comment that the appropriate reply to this post would be to have no comments...but I think you see the problem.
There's hope for America's college students.
I would suggest the attendees, if there were any, should settle all disputes at 10 paces with dueling pistols.

Indeed. In the news, one hears about so much revolting nonsense coming from American college students, but I suppose that's only the progressive fringe -- most are still decent enough people, even if they're young and stupid.
Attendance would pick up if the progressives were allowed to impale a few Young Republicans on pikes.
The demand was its own reward, as the students recreate the protest movement of their grandparents.
They have a lot of diversity meetings at the hospital where I work. Some of them even sound interesting, but I don't dare go. I would be afraid to say a word.
They are paying thousands of dollars to attend, why waste time on bullshit courses.
The circle is infinite, encompassing the whole world and beyond.
The President decided that there would be no action on the student demands to put him out of work, so he masterfully jumped on one student's suggestion that a forum for students was in order. Then the Ithaca president found this ugly name for the meetings that no self-respecting student would attend anyway - and the president's job was saved without further protest or violence. Brilliant!
Class diversitists fool no one. They judge people by the "color of their skin", not the content of their character (e.g. principles).
Fuck diversity.
Eric Holder is pretty sure the white students who didn't show up are cowards.
Perhaps the people who demanded them didn't want them for themselves, they wanted them for other students. The protestors are diverse. They're active. They're freaking self-actualized! They don't need some dumb forum. The people who want to study and go about their lives because they don't realize how pissed they should be at this week's outrage are the ones who need to attend.
Unfortunately for the forum crowd, those other students don't feel the need to attend.
Yes. This is an idea that is so good, it will need to be mandatory.
Since there are no jobs, it makes sense to turn collages into reeducation camps. s/
Students think it is others that need to hectored, not themselves.
Next year, mandatory attendance for white males. They will all wear a Scarlet letter 'R' for racist.

My thoughts exactly, Mary Beth. Not even the students who wanted it went. Ha hahaha!
People need to stop giving outsize attention to complainers. With social media, it's so easy to make things seem so huge, and companies and institutions haven't figured out how to deal with it yet. But the truth is we've made it easier to get attention because you are outraged than because you are a big success. We reward both about equally, but outrage is so much easier. Social media and 24/7 cable gives a megaphone to the complainers but it doesn't mean they really have any power behind them if they/we don't give them power.
You can lead a social justice horse to water...
Demands were made to make the demanders seem powerful. They really do not care about what they demand
The article doesn't say that the fora were literally empty. I presume that some faculty and staff were there. But, yes, pretty pitiful, given that it's the students whose demands were the reason for them in the first place.
That pretty much sums it all up, doesn't it? Some loud person makes a stink, claims bigotry if they don't get their way, and the cowardly school gives in, only to discover that even that one loud person has no intention of participating. What a decadent institution.
And of course your tuition has to keep going up. We have to pay for these things so that some lone troll doesn't call us racist again!

These are college students. Buy a few pizzas for the next meeting, and advertise that fact, and attendance will skyrocket.
