I'm recording a Bloggingheads episode soon (with Bob Wright). He wants to talk to me about Trump.

I really don't want to be on the receiving end of a bill of particulars about Trump. I'm at my worst when I'm bored.

Listening to Bob Wright is the ultimate boredom known to man.

You aren't going to say I have a bad feeling about this, are you? I hate it when you say that.'

Sprezzatura म्हणाले...

I don't think of Wright as a bill of particulars dude. It seems like he has more of a conversational style. Of course, that's not saying he's not boring.

Anywho, regardless of it being a conversation or bill of particulars, it's not like someone's got a gun to Althouse's head. If talking turkey about Trump is boring, just don't do it.

Duh.

Wright will want your take on Dilbert's take on Trump. And is there any enthusiasm for Hillary there in Madison? If Hillary doesn't get a huge turnout in Dane County then Wisconsin could go Trump. Wisconsin is a key state.

Luke Lea म्हणाले...

Bob has Trump derangement syndrome, as we saw in his recent episode with Mickey Kaus. You need to go gentle on him. Stick to the issues, as Trump himself is doing more and more -- especially the one issue the establishment REALLY doesn't want to talk about, which is free trade in a lopsided world, and what it is doing to the lesser-skilled half of our working population. "Bring our jobs back from overseas" is a message that can really resonate in the African American community though it remains to be seen if it will. Trump change, not chump change!

I don't think Mr. Wright adds anything to your brand, but I do believe that you add a lot to his brand.

jacksonjay म्हणाले...

You must be contractually obligated to suffer the tedious boredome of Bob Wright. No isn't an option?

Eric the Fruit Bat म्हणाले...

Try to change the subject to the work of Jonathan Franzen.

rehajm म्हणाले...

Watch out for the gotcha.

Two Hillary voters discussing Trump?

"Hey doc, can I have that gum surgery today?"

Wright is one of the few lefties I respect (Glenn Greenwald is another). I may disagree with his take on most things, but he strikes me as someone who honestly wrestles with the issues and tries to come to the conclusion that makes the most sense.

If you trade with countries where no fraud and no force do not rule, you import fraud and force into your own country, as far as the effects go.

So the economic theory about trade does not apply, because the premise of the theory is undermined. Those guys in China are not free to persue their own interests, and all the price signals wind up being wrong.

Remember all the many foreign policy bloggingheads episodes Wright hosted during the Bush years?
Ask him why all his episodes became navel gazing, angels dancing on pinhead pieces and virtually no foreign policy discussion since SoS Clinton.

Laslo Spatula म्हणाले...

Wright will be wearing shorts under the desk.

A theory.

I am Laslo.

Stephen म्हणाले...

What are his views of Obama/Clinton ME interventionism?

Stephen म्हणाले...

What are his thoughts re Putin hosting Israeli Palestinian peace talks?

Will Wright appear clean shaven or is still sporting the rugged alpha male look? First things first.

"Bob has Trump derangement syndrome, as we saw in his recent episode with Mickey Kaus. You need to go gentle on him."

I think Mickey whetted his appetite and he thinks he can get more of that sort of thing from me. I intend to deny satisfaction.

"Stick to the issues..."

I am not a stick-to-the-issues persons. Blech. The issues! If that's what you want, bring on a policy wonk or a Trump spokesperson. If I was going to respond on all the issues in a systematic way, I would need to work like a lawyer, with research and discipline and grim avoidance of any digressions, quirkiness, and individuality. For that, you should have to pay me, for all my time. I'm on my own time, and I will only give what I want, what feels liberatingly expressive to me, and what I happen to stumble into as I proceed on my eccentric way.

Roughcoat म्हणाले...

If you trade with countries where no fraud and no force do not rule,

Huh?

Roughcoat म्हणाले...

I will only give what I want, what feels liberatingly expressive to me, and what I happen to stumble into as I proceed on my eccentric way.

I feel as though I should stand up and salute.

rhhardin म्हणाले...

The libertarian view of government is that it's there to increase opportunities for trade. Enforcing contracts for instance makes the cost of trade much smaller because trust doesn't have to be established. So more trade happen, and the more trades happen the more the standard of living of the nation rises (because every trade benefits both sides). (No fraud)

The pareto optimum idea is that nothing government does should leave anybody worse off, after considering compensation in kind. But you have to pay the difference, and putting it on the budget is a natural constraint on what government takes on. (No force)

So no fraud and no force is the idea. That doesn't apply in e.g. China, so trading with China can't be free without importing fraud and force effects into the US.

Not that we don't have them already from scotus activism, but that's the argument against the economic theory that free trade benefits both sides.

Bob Wright is a nice man, but he is sincerely stupid.

Thinking trump very good compared to robotic clinton at nbc forum not eccentric. Maybe Wright staging an online intervention.

jacksonjay म्हणाले...

So, no is an option. Boredom is a choice.

cubanbob म्हणाले...

Ann should ask Wright if he wants to discuss Hillary's incompetence and criminality and whether or not that should be a basis for her being unfit for office.

I regularly watched BloggingHeads when it first began, having followed Kausfiles. I was active in the forums.
I stopped watching BH in 2008 or so...which feels like such a long, long time. The forums had become unpleasant and Wright, in particular, had gotten a lot worse (mostly in terms of partisanship and not arguing in good faith/assuming good faith, etc). Their "balanced" matchups became pretty uninteresting.

Have you ever done a vlog with Mickey Kaus, Professor? I bet you two could have a good, insightful chat.

Apparently you and all my former girlfriends are working from the same playbook.

While Trump is a far from perfect candidate, his candidacy has been eye opening regarding Democrats craven lust for power at all costs, and how little they care for their own professed values and how quickly they are willing to sell out their own moral pretensions, I won't say "beliefs."

Plus he stuck the knife into Cruz. I hope Cruz is gone. He was everything that is wrong with the Republican Party rolled up into one ugly clump.

Ann Althouse म्हणाले...

We had a good conversation. I hope they put it up soon.
