Goodbye to Mr. Tucker.
My high school English teacher. Unforgettable classes. If only I could say my lines from Marbury v. Madison the way he could do "Moby Dick."

Given her, shall we say unconventional?, approach to politics, Althouse might well claim a kinship to another famous exile. Perhaps she could open a lecture on Marbury v. Madison with "call me Ishmael.."
Moby Dick, as I recall the essay, is about a world without women.
Ah, Marbury v. Madison, in which the Supreme Court actually took testimony, and Thomas Jefferson's Attorney General, Levi Lincoln, asked what happened to the commissions, took the Fifth Amendment. You can't make this stuff up. Compared to that, Moby Dick is a bedtime story.
Maybe Marbury doesn't lend itself to such a reading. Try Middlesex County Sewerage v. Sea Clammers.
My high school English teacher, Danny Gayer, passed away a couple of years ago. He was one of the few teachers I had that really treated you as an equal, almost as his collaborator. After he died there were hundreds of comments from former students. A great man.
My 7th grade German teacher is celebrating her 100th birthday on Sunday, October 9th at the neighborhood church.
I'll be there.
Honor to all the great teachers who made us. My son has yet to meet his.
Those are nice tributes at that link. Sounds like an exemplary teacher. More like that are needed.
I've read this blog for many years without commenting but...this is just astonishing. I knew you lived in Wayne at one time but had the impression it was only briefly, and as an adult. You actually went to Wayne Valley High School and had Mr. Tucker for English?!? Amazing.
Yes, he was a great teacher, perhaps the most memorable one I've had. There are a fair number of us "lifers" in Wayne who have lived here since childhood - I guarantee Van Der May funeral home is going to be packed out the doors tomorrow, Mr. Tucker certainly qualifies as a "local celebrity".
His family may be interested to learn that he is well remembered by one of his students who is now a pretty famous, very high traffic blogger!
There are a gazillion things I want to say so it's probably all for the best that I don't know how to type.
The problem is, you see, I can't even get started because Mavis Beacon gives me a horrendous boner.
